Bubble Watch

Thought we could use a thread for people to discuss projected brackets. It’s definitely confusing with many pundits declaring us as the auto-Bid with the one seed, and it seems we’re not even on the bubble for others. Curious if anyone has found some recent commentary on our bubble chances after the VCU win?

Box and One

So last two games there has been a variation of box and one on King. STJ covered him
tight and left big man in bottom of lane to prevent layups and left our bigs open in lane.
Walz and Quinn made them pay for this strategy. GMU assigned a chaser on King and we
spread floor leaving some lanes open to basket but we missed a lot of short shots. Moving
forward I see that is going to be the strategy against us. Take away Hunt and make the rest
of the team score. We may need Noyes to come in some to give us another outside shooter.
Give GMU credit for executing their game plan very well and giving our coaching staff a chance
to prepare for our next meeting.

Jordan Rules

Seems like our opponents have installed the A10's version of the Jordan Rules. I have missed more time watching than I would have liked late in the season, and when watching on TV I seem to miss the strategy much more than watching a game in person. From comments on here and what I have gleaned, it seems when the other team goes into the Jordan Rules, and face guards Jordan all over the court, we have not adjusted great. There have been some games like VCU - where Jordan just makes crazy contested shots - that is great - but does not seem like necessarily a sustainable coaching strategy. Other times - in games I missed - it sounds like we camped him outside to try to isolate the other 4.

While Jordan has shown the propensity to go hero ball and win us games like very few can, in a cavernous, early in the day, site lines questionable, defensive oriented first two rounds of the A10 tourney, I think we need a plan B as well. What are the best options to overcome the Jordan Rules in this setting?

How high is Dji Bailey's ceiling?

Dji is having an absolutely terrific year both on offense and defense and seems to be improving throughout the season, with his best game yesterday. With that said, I don’t think his reputation throughout the A10 is at the level of how well he is playing. This is primarily due to the huge improvement in his stats he has made since last year and the fact that he shares the floor with 4 other outstanding players, including a potential A10 player of the year.

However, I think the ceiling for Dji is very high, and I expect his reputation in the league will continue to improve throughout the rest of the season. With King, Quinn, and Bigelow moving on at the end of the season, I expect Dji to be selected to one of the preseason all A10 teams. I also expect him to evolve from an outstanding role player this year to potentially “The Man” next year. Looking further out, I believe he will have a very successful pro career.

Dji has demonstrated loyalty to the program, tried to excel at every role he has been assigned, worked hard, never gave up, and most importantly, is on the verge of succeeding well above all our expectations.

Expect to win

Figured I’d create a thread about this because it’s obviously very relevant. We all know what we need to do this week and that’s win at least a couple games to have a shot at getting in but screw that, let’s just win the tournament outright. I know I may get criticized for this but it seemed after the st joes game that we were acting like we won the national title by winning the regular season. It was a big deal but we have bigger and better goals to chase than that because tbh if we don’t make the tournament it doesn’t really matter. Also saw a lot of talk about how you can’t possibly leave the A10 regular season champ out if we get bounced in the league tournament almost as if we’re just assuming we’re not gonna win the thing. I agree we shouldn’t be left out but unfortunately that’s just not the way it is. Instead let’s just not even leave it up to anyone and go in with the opposite attitude where we’re the big dog on the block and that no one is beating us on our way to winning the league title this week. We went 15-3 in a very good league, won a lot of close games against solid teams so we know we can get this done.

One of my biggest criticisms of mooney has been that I think he’s kind of soft and I think a lot of times the team reflects that attitude. I’m challenging this program this week then by saying that. I’m sure some players and coaches read this board and I hope they see what I just said. Prove me wrong. I know they have the talent and ability to win 3 games this week so ain’t nothing to it but to do it. Don’t go in scared, nervous and thinking about what happens if we don’t win the tournament. Go in play loose, free, with intensity that we’ve seen this year and there’s no doubt in my mind that trophy is coming back to the University Of Richmond. Expect to win guys! 🔴🔵

Tech question

This and other boards often refer to "PMs" (private messages between posters on a message board). I believe that Rivals calls them "Conversations." I have recently been in a "conversation" with the moderator, and have spent a few hours trying to figure out, without success, if we on this board can have a private "conversation" with another poster on this board other than the moderator. My conclusion (which I am hoping is wrong) is that only the moderator can initiate a conversation with a poster on this board.

My question is have any of you been able to have such a PM or Conversation with another person on this board except with the moderator and initiated by the moderator and, if so, what steps did you take to initiate the conversation?

Input or suggestions from those of you who have any knowledge of this will be greatly appreciated.
