Minutes Next Season

In terms of freshman in a general sense...The only freshman that contribute significant minutes throughout college bball are the HM kids that are 5 stars and possibly NBA bound, ie...Greg Brown, Cade Cunningham etc. I think if we look at the stats we would see that possibly. A majority of freshman sit. I can use UNC as an example where Roy used Brooks more than Sharpe when Sharpe was clearly the better Big. Roy gave preference to his upperclassman maybe to a fault in some cases. This point in terms of Coach Mooney has been made up here countless times and is probably fair. But if a freshman is ready then play him. We also need to remember there are a lot of things such as strength and IQ that are super important and can't be overlooked, which goes into the player being able to contribute right away. Do you guys see it that way?

yes, and I totally understand a freshman having to think too much instead of just playing and it holding him back. this isn't pickup ball. we do run an offense with some reads. it really isn't as complicated as some make it out to be after you've been running it long enough. it will make sense. but it takes some time. and when all 5 are comfortable it really runs well.

Seems rhetorical right? But then ask, who is the best defensive player of that group. Probably Sal, but the rhetorical answer you were looking for was Grant. Which gets back to native point about the complete over focus of offensive proficiency. Grant is at best a below average defensive player, but man he is great on offense and particularly the type of offense Mooney runs. So, he's the obvious choice right?

But what if Sal was given more minutes his freshman, sophomore, junior years and really honed himself into a rangy defensive big, that rhetorical question, might not be so rhetorical. Of course, we will never know that because Sal was buried on the Mooney bench.
you give Sal a ton of credit. he looked better this year. it's a long process. he certainly needed to get stronger over the years. but he's never shown he's ready to be the main guy at the 5. despite 3 years of work. more playing time as a freshman has nothing to do with that.

his feet are good defensively, but he's no defensive star. he's not a leaper. he doesn't block many shots or grab a ton of rebounds. he doesn't finish well through contact.

I like him as a backup big but he's not even in the conversation with Grant as a total center. and Mooney didn't hold him back.

but in NIT we saw some smooth moves from Sal who has a quick first step. He does have long arms which makes shooting over him tough, but as stated his body is not made for pounding down low.

he made very good offensive moves multiple times this year. doesn't always finish but drew fouls.

Sal and Grace are competing for most fouls per minute played in the nation. Not sure which is leading.

That sounds like Cayo?
Iirc Nate was mostly playing 2G coming out of high school and I think Sal was more of a swing 3-4 forward. They are both playing up a spot or even two from their high school days. Nate fits well in his role here and is more skilled with the ball than those defending him. Sal in my view is not a 5 and projects to me as a better backup to Nate than grant.

plus Sal is an excellent ballhandler like Cayo also

JOC with a short article on the four guys returning and pushing our roster to 19 for next year. Mooney is humbled and overwhelmed.

Golden is back on the court. Sherod and Crabtree still rehabbing.

It's 20 unless Liam Weaver next year walk on is no longer coming. Maybe JOC is not aware of him or knows something we don't.

I count 15 scholarship guys plus Arizin, Southall, and Weaver, so that would only be 18.

Are Kulju and/or Gaitley coming back?

Edit: I see you're referring to his comment about four returning walk-ons. Weird.

yes the 2 senior walk ons r coming back too, it was mentioned in a prior press release.

Oh yeah, it was in the Sherod press release. Crazy.

Weaver's Twitter profile is still covered in UR stuff.

Lastly. did Aaron Lemon-Warren get a Fordham offer 3 weeks ago?
Is he still deciding for September?

Did they graduate?
And does the NCAA changes affect their eligibility? ;)

Gaitley was already a grad student this past season. Kulju just graduated. Both can return for another year if they want.

Yes, Lemon-Warren got the Fordham offer and is presumably still deciding for next year. Not sure what the delay is...he already had a Penn State offer that I figured he'd take.

I'm sure we're not involved given the number of guys we already have on board, but I've been watching pretty closer for any sign of his plans and haven't seen anything.

JOC has updated his article to note that the roster will be 20. Liam will be coming in next month with the rest of the freshmen.

Have any of your comments being positive from the beginning to the end your chats?
I don't understand your question because it doesn't make sense. But if your question is have I made any positive comments. Yeah, a bunch. I am excited about the Sherod, Cayo, and Gilly returning (less so about Grant because he refuses to play defense) and praised Mooney for the culture he created that allowed them to return.

Do I think Mooney is still going to eff up this incredible gift he has been given though? Yep, cause it is what he does.

Wasn’t sure where to put this but I’ve got some scoop on a member of the athletic department that many of us are not fond of. Message me privately or on other sites like Twitter to get the news.
