We have 3 open offers at the time. None of them look that good, we are by far the best offer on all 3 of them.

What should we do with the open spots?

One thing we need to do is get an immediately eligible scoring 3.

Verbal Commits

I don't understand why we recruit players whose other options are going to South Alabama or Prarie View A&M.

Is it just something the Richmond staff sees in the player that no other team that is "on par" with Richmond sees?

I feel like we should be able to compete with GW, Dayton, and other schools of the like for the same players.

Could it also be because we're playing it safe just in case our "top recruits" all choose other schools?

If that's the case, then are we playing it too safe? I mean we can't go from recruiting players that could end up at Georgetown or UVA to recruiting guys that play for some random small school no one has heard of. I feel like there is some middle ground that we could be in.

Marshall Wood may solve that problem. To me, if we can get an immediate transfer, I would go after a shooting guard.

So, if Shaka goes to Texas, do we just look down to Broad Street for a player who might be looking for a different situation

Agree, 97. We need a "fearless" sharp shooter who is willing to put a team on his back when it's clutch time. While I think SDJ has made strides this season, need another option to take some of the pressure off him and let him be that "floor general" PG we need him to be as well. Why I'd have no issue with an experienced grad transfer coming in and contributing. Know it's not easy for someone to come in like this, particularly if he's got any defensive deficiencies and can't learn our D fast enough, but we've got enough D specialists and simply need someone to knock down shots or know how to get to FT line and knock those down.

Anton Gill of Louisville and Hargrave Military is transferring. SG with two years left. Doubt we are in play, in part because he's apparently not that good defensively, but who knows.

I would keep an eye on Adam Smith, VaTech's leading scorer who is eligible immediately as a grad transfer. He shot 42% from three.

Also Patrick Rooks, a SG from Clemson with three years left. He's from Charlotte, was a 3-star guy and player AAU on Team Loaded, based in Va.

Maybe Marshall could do some recruiting for us, shot 42% from three this year.

I don't know who my vote for most pessimistic poster would be, but it wouldn't be Eight.

The current offers we have out there are BY FAR the best offers any of these kids have. We really need to improve the quality of our recruiting. As a wise man once said "It's about Johnnies and Joes, not X's and O's", and I agree with that.

We should not worry too much about position, we should try to pick up the best player available in the transfer market, someone who can score would be nice.

Again, as I have said as well as others, when guys come in and then transfer because they are not getting any playing time, or making a positive impact, it is an indictment of our substandard recruiting efforts more than anything else.

Probably the most frustrating thing to me is our inability to recruit the players that other schools in our league get on a regular basis. With all we have to offer could someone please give me the answer.......other than the high admission requirements. I am a little tired of that excuse.

What about Stanford Robinson out of Indiana--from Fairfax originally. A 4-star SG that would be good to have for 2 years of eligibility.

it's not likely to find a guy this late for the current class, at least not one that will help next year. and we don't need a 5th guy in the next class. I don't see us as a graduate transfer destination. the guys we'd want are looking really high major. the kid from Drexel probably ends up at Maryland.

losing Kadeem is a problem because you need 3 guys on the roster that can play the point in case 1 guys goes down. typically 2 PGs and a combo guard. we have 2 PGs in SDJ and Fore. Trey and Josh aren't combo guards. not sure on Julius but I think he's a straight 2 also.

Kirby might be the guy that is on call. have to have someone ready and eligible. in fact, if Kirby is as good as some have said, maybe he earns a scholarship.

Not a bad theory, spiderman. I liked Kirby when we signed him originally. He played for a legit team and didn't he have a scholarship offer to Harvard? Mostly I like that he is a big body at the guard position.

If we do get two transfers who have to sit out a year, depth could be a problem for us again. I would rather have at least one new guy who is eligible to play next year.

Trey Lewis leaving Cleveland State. Averaged 16 ppg, made 96 3s.. Eligible immediately.

and he's already hearing from Louisville, Indiana and Georgetown. guys, the highest of high majors all have late openings when a guy goes pro. that's where the big time graduate transfers will go.

serious shooter with a quick release and beautiful shot. 9 ppg as a freshman at Citadel, hitting 42% of his 3's. academics no issue ... 3.7 in HS. 6'4".

Jake Wright

Shawn Smith from Marshall. 6'6, averaged 12 ppg. Immediately eligible

You have also remember that some of these guys aren't going to fit in academically, so that shortens any transfer list quite a bit.

Thanks for the link spiderman, he definitely looks like a football player.

Robinson might be a stretch. Came out of high school in the Top 100, flopped at Indiana. He is from Fairfax. Maybe we give him another shot?

Stanford Robinson

For transfers, I would rather get a great player who has proven himself on the court from a lower tier school and is looking to move up than someone who is looking to leave a higher tier school due to lack of playing time or not being good enough (for the record I DO NOT think this is the case with Wood).

For transfers that could play immediately next year, here is who I like at first glance

Galal Cancer Lots of assists and a 3pt threat, but not good from 2.
Anthony Collins Incredible assist numbers, good at stealing, can score but doesn't shoot the 3.
Rafael Maia Rebounder who can score and draw a lot of fouls
Sterling Smith Great ball handler who can score very well both inside and out

Agreed, because BCS schools have recruiting misses as well. And if a guy can't get time at a big time school, the primary reason is because they aren't good enough to warrant time.

Patrick Rooks is an interesting looking prospect. We've gotten a number of football players from Charlotte Christian, so there should be some connection somewhere.

I could be wrong but don't see us taking a 1 year player unless it's a real difference maker like Smith from VT Might be.

Mooney really should throw everything at next year. He has 4 veteran seniors and 3 seasoned juniors. If he doesn't think he can make the NCAA with them, he had better find a transfer that can get him there. His stock will really fall if he doesn't make NCAA this coming year.

I agree, and I think that's why two guys are leaving. It smells like a bit of urgency to me. It would be unlike us to get a grad transfer, but there is a lot riding on next year. We cannot fail. We need someone who can step in and give us the kind of tournament boost Mo Creek gave GW last year.

His stock will fall because he'll be fired, simple as that. Keith Gill has no ties to him its not his guy, all he'll see is no tourney bids for what will 5 years. He should have been gone after this year.

I doubt anyone on this board is privy to Gill's mindset. A lot of universities would love to see, UR fire CM. And it would be a shame, if we do, as we have a very fine coach. CM came to UR as a very young coach, with only 1 year of head coaching experience in D1. CM has matured and developed as a coach in his years with us. It would be a shame to have developed an outstanding coach, and then fire him, so, some other program can avail themselves of his skills.

TB, I concur. I like Chris as a coach and think he has been great for our school. Be very careful what you wish for! If we lose Mooney, we may not see the Big Dance for many years, depending on whom we hire. We could see massive transfers and, God forbid, a Wainwright mentality re: recruits. I, for one, would never support the mercenary mind set of many schools. If we go the "one and done" game plan of many schools. I will no longer support the program. I am proud of the student-athletes that attend our school. If we move away from that, I am out as a supporter. Those of you that think otherwise need to really think about where you want this program to go.

Another great job derailing a thread with Pro Mooney / Anti Mooney banter.

It's growing pretty difficult to discuss any aspect of our program without devolving into this BS. Mush into mush.

I am not asking for anyone to be fired, I just want to see coach get the right personnel and work on weaknesses in the off season. 2015-2016 has the potential to be a big one.

I like what Mo said in an older thread. Get behind this coming year's team 100%. Bring kids and ask friends to attend games, especially early in the season. We are all well aware of how much the early games matter.
