SLU Game Postponed

I am thinking this may raise a stink with other schools in the conference as well. My guess is that they have a positive test, Who knows, may have even hid one against Dayton.

Even our own people (Hardt) said everyone cleared protocols this morning so I don’t think this is true

A-10 just letting everything burn.

Need to absolutely bury A10 leadership on the airwaves on monday here in Richmond at a level of 2005 patriot league rumors. Absolutely no reason to hide transparency. The A10 loses its feature nationally televised game on ESPN and all they can do is come out with that chicken $h!t canned response? We are hosting the g*****n tournament so they need to investigate to figure out what is wrong with "our protocols" to make sure it doesnt happen again if this is such a problem. If there is nothing found then give them a big fat L for wasting everyones time and costing the conference exposure and money. Should dock the revenue from this game from McGlades paycheck.

All for giving SLU the forfeit.

I don't expect much from A10 if we r letting it go. The league office takes their cues from their membership. And we kind of punted. There was some typical PR fluff, but Mooney said he didn't know why SLU left. If that was truly the case this should be a really big deal. The communication would have been at the AD level and no doubt Mooney would have been told by Hardt. There's no transparency from us so we won't get any from A10. If u r losing a game just mumble protocols and walk off court and maybe get out of an L. Fact is right now we r letting this go, couple statements that looks like we r upset but there is no transparency. This par for the course with UR. In no way is SLU off the hook it was their decision obviously and I believe they could have easily played. But without transparency we don't know. Hopefully we'll get it but I doubt it comes from us.

Of course yes you'd think after we helped A10 out w the A10 tourney they'd have our backs. But I don't see them wading more into this when we give them no reason.

Yep that says nothing. I mean it's great and all but SLU says there were issues with our protocols. So why did they turn around and fly home? Certainly they gave us some specifics. Tell us their reasons. It's hard for me to believe a team would fly here & be prepared to play, after their long layoff had to be itching to play after having only 1 game in a month, & also needed it for NCAA reasons. Maybe there reasons were BS but otherwise it just looks like more CYA for Hardt & Moon.

So my take here (purely opinion based on trying to read between the lines) is that SLU really saw something they didn't like on how we are doing this and its not some attempt to get out of the game etc. and they are being cryptic with their explanation so as to thread the needle here to not be overly accusatory or critical of us and at the same time, make clear its not their fault. From our side, we just think they are full of shit and are saying so, just not quite so explicitly. But I am sure when they told us, it got everybody all fired up both ways. I'd say the amount of bad blood between the schools and teams will be substantial as they continue to point fingers at each other. SLU can't and won't be sanctioned or have to forfeit no matter what the facts ultimately turn out to be because they can and will always just say we are trying to protect our students and nobody can come hard against that.

What don't I understand? Who were they concerned about? Appears the common denominator with all the cancellations for St Louis is St Louis.

"Our release stands as is. No additional info." A-10 release says game ppd "as a result of COVID-19 concerns raised by the " " '' " " medical staff."

Would be nice if every future opponent uses the above statement (if accurate) when ready to play them. Like maybe their opponent on 2/26/21. Says PPD but if any makeups occur the A10 should rank this up there at the top.

Well, I wonder if the A10 feels extra protective of the Spiders due to all the NCAA credits and money we have been raking in for the conference?

Its one thing for us idiots to $hitwhisle on this forum. Its another thing to have a title in the athletic department and then use it to bully your own fan base and to antagonize another schools baseball team because you're too stupid to twitter, calling them cowards. I know hes a volunteer, but I have seen enough of his involvment in our athletic department. His little hissy fit is as embarrasing as the A10's silence on this matter.

Yeah just let it go, they go to the tourney and we don’t. We need a full vetting of the accusations and responses.

JOC still as confused as the rest of us, if not more so.

it is confusing bc JOC already reported that SLU had concerns w UR protocols. if they r sick & blaming on UR instead that would be an even bigger problem.

There is a really easy place to start. What exactly was Hardt told by SLU. There is no reason for it to be a secret. Ask Hardt.

I guess if either program goes on a covid pause before their next game, we’ll have an answer. But I truly don’t think either team had a player with a covid issue. Truly a mystery

At least one Spider hoops team got to play tonight...women beat GW by double digits to move to 6–2 in A-10 play. They’ve largely done it against weak teams, although they did have a nice win over VCU last weekend, so hopefully they can knock off some other top teams down the stretch.

Great

At this point cancel everything. Obviously no one knows whats going on. Cancel games even when the rules are being followed. Seems like different rules and covid is spreading everywhere. The tournament will be a dumpster a cancel game players quarantine. Save everyone the time and energy. Cancel the season. No one knows whats going on anymore. Cancel a game and no one understand why.

Here is a Covid question, Why are players allowed to play without masks, but when they go to the sidelines they are required to wear them although they do not wear them correctly? Also if the players on the bench are practicing social distancing, why are they required to wear masks, and again, do not wear them correctly. The coaches also have their masks on and off throughout the games. I do not understand it. Why not full on masks all the time?

Agreed. You can breathe fine through medical masks, it's been proven scientifically. Just wear them throughout and no problem.

Scientifically? Try exercising and wearing them. Plus read ‘unreported truths about covid..’ mask’. I hope your comment was sarcastic

You can bet your house that St. Louis didn't cancel the game and leave without having some significant conversations with both UR officials and A-10 reps. Hardt, and A-10 officials know why St. Louis left, I'd be shocked if Mooney doesn't know as well. If they collaborate on a cover-up, and spit out lame BS as the official statement, the issue should be with them.

The fact that there isn't a clean COVID pause statement like there normally is, leads me to believe that the coordinated smooth-over is trying to cover up something that they view as an embarrassment.

Yep, scientifically.

The end of this article says 13 games are required for both A-10 and NCAA tournaments. Doesn’t say anything about a specific number of conference games needed for A-10. Would think they should be able to get 4 more games in to reach 13, but who knows at this point.

And it shouldn't be a effing mystery! I'm so sick and tired year after year about the lack of transparency by the athletic department, and the "we're a private school we don't have to tell you nothin" attitude from the school administration.

Sometimes, it just feels like I'm being played.

And StL could at least send their cheerleaders...

Whatever happened will eventually come out. In these situations, normally best to get out in front of the story with your spin of it.

Yep, scientifically.

Name the sport that requires athletes to wear mask while competing? Or better yet run a couple of miles in one

Not really name the sport

Nobody said there is a sport that requires its athletes to wear a mask. You though insinuated that exercising And wearing a mask was difficult or nearly impossible and Eight disproved you.

Whether or not a sport requires it has no relevance to the oxygen levels of wearing a mask. Hence, moving the goalposts.

Especially seeing how strict students on- and off-campus are being treated for violating protocols, etc. I am willing to bet my first-born that SLU is to blame for residual COVID issues...Ford looks like a closeted anti-masker imho. Bound to have others within program who don't think we're still in a pandemic.
“Ford looks like a closeted anti-masker” hahaha how ludicrous!!
