24–23 Mason at the 2Q media. Spiders still can't get the three going other Ullstrom 3-for-3. Everybody else is 1–8. Only 41% shooting overall as Mason is making it tough. Rebounding is a little better though.
St. Joe's and VCU are both rolling in their games, and Duquesne has a bye this weekend. This game with Mason is the only one pitting two from the top group against each other, so this is a huge one to get on the road.
St. Joe's was up 12 on Rhode Island with 4 minutes to go, and it's now down to a 1-point lead with 17 seconds to play. Hawk ball, so the Rams will be putting them on the line again.
Mason's starting big just fouled out after committing her fourth on an and-1 for Hill and then tossing her to the ground as Hill was trying to catch her balance after the contact. 43–42 Mason.
Spiders hitting some threes to claw back within a point at the under 5 media timeout, 60–59. Mason still getting a ton of offensive rebounds for extra chances.
Doogan three gives the Spiders the lead with a minute to go!
Edit: Two Mason free throws tied it at 68. Spider offense wasn't flowing and they had to call a timeout. Townsend missed but Mason tipped the rebound out of bounds. Spider ball with 27 seconds left and 20 on the shot clock.
Hoo-boy. Townsend misses, Ullstrom battles for the o-board, puts it back up and misses, gets another o-board, and Spiders call time out. 17.4 seconds left and shot clock is off.
Free basketball coming up in Fairfax as the Spiders couldn't get a good shot off after Mason used a foul to give with 4 seconds left. Golden opportunity there in the final minute, but Spiders just couldn't get a bucket.
Duquesne has both the Spiders and St. Joe's in their final two games, and VCU hosts Mason in the finale for those two teams.
Spiders have the head-to-head tiebreakers over St. Joe's and VCU, but are on the short end vs. Mason while we'll have to see about Duquesne with the return game pending and the Spiders currently down. And of course a multi-way tie would muddle things further.
