2017 Signees

Greetings Spiders. Northwestern Wildcat here. We just offered Chee Anyanwu today. He looks like a good athlete on tape, and more importantly a dedicated student. NU is a great school, but I don't get the impression he will flip, based on the article I read. I think he is visiting this weekend or next.

Chee has removed "Richmond commit" from his Twitter bio. Not a great sign for us, but hopefully we're still the leader in the clubhouse.

Hmm. I guess in taking an official after verbaling he should do that. Does UR have a policy on official visits after committing? Coach Fitz basically forbids them (offer gets pulled) and he has done it at least once.

Not entirely sure if we have a policy about that, considering our coach just started a few weeks ago. :) We had several commits reopen after our coaching change and we're still after several of those guys trying to get them back on board, but everything is naturally chaotic when you're bringing in a new staff and everybody on both sides is figuring out whether/how they continue to fit.

he's only allowed one official on our nickel, I guess he can visit unofficially

It would suck to lose Chee but i can understand and respect what Northwestern brings to the table.

why not remove the word "commit" or "commitment" from the recruiting notebook because it is not that when a young man verbals, only shows an intention at a period of time and not an actual commitment.

I think limiting BCS visits would be difficult at any rate...

Coach Fitz will not accept san official visit from a kid who has verbaled another school, so whatever "committed" means in the parlance of our times, I guess Chee is not in the category at the moment.

Lou Vaccher, our rivals reporter/editor thinks Chee has been offered at NU as a SAM. He will obviously need some redshirt time to grow into that role. But on defense, the Cats continue to emphasize speed and agility in recruiting. It seems to be paying dividends.

From what I read about Chee, he sounds like a great kid who is very focused on academics and the relationship with coaches, and thinks about life after football. These types usually find NU pretty appealing (which is good, because our winters are not).

As an aside, I spent a day in Richmond seeing a client, and it seemed like a nice city. I indulged in a few regional style hot dogs at a restaurant devoted to hot dogs down near the river. It was good. It's awesome you guys hosted the world road cycling championships last year. I hope it was good for the locals.

Any guesses on who is here for visits?

I believe Knox Hagan and Jack Doherty and Anthonie Powell and Michael Freeman are here but not sure on who else.

It's always kinda crappy when a guy flips late. We don't see a lot of decommits, but have been burned a few times on late flips. Grant Perry was a Michigan kid I really liked, and then Harbaugh flipped him the day before NSD (Perry now is in some hot water with the law). Zach Allen was a CT kid who flipped to BC late, and he is becoming a very good player.

Good luck to the Spiders in 2017 and beyond.

Moliva's post above accounts for everybody I've seen mentioned.

I understand losing a guy to northwestern but possibly losing one to Tennessee Martin is pathetic. They are not a winning program, here have been and we are. Shouldn't lose one to them.

Damn this honestly was the one I really wanted to hold on to. Obviously can't blame the kid, at least it wasn't Delaware. Best of luck, we hardly knew Chee...
What's your take on Chee? His tape looks good--very aggressive in run support and seems pretty athletic. They offered him as a SAM, so it's off to weight room and training table for him. He looks like his frame could add 25 lbs or pretty easily.

New offer out. He committed to Fordham a month ago and was on a visit there this weekend.

Another offer...punter/kicker Brooks Buce out of Atlanta. Offers from Army, Navy, ODU, Fordham, Chaz Southern, Mercer. Georgia considering offering a preferred walk-on spot.

Let's make him regret it for each of the next 4 or 5 years. He sounds like a kid who needs to mature so that he can weigh his decisions. Hope that we can be a part of that metamorphosis.

not at all surprised by that one -- sorry to see him go but we are loaded at RB, I'm sure that was a factor

You sound like an ass. These are 17/18 yr old kids. If I recall people commented in the past what a great kid he is and top notch player. Let's not start embarrassing ourselves because we are losing in the recruiting game right now. urfan1 is probably right about depth or maybe Russ' new offense is not for him. I don't wish any ill towards this kid, Chee, Thyrick, Page, Lachlan and the list goes on. There's a consistent message here that either DR setting the house on fire or something with this new staff/schemes aren't sitting well with these kids and their families. Be pissed at DR, he did this. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to beat UD, WM and the pukes, but I'm not going to be a kid-hater.

And we are out here offering kids that are committed elsewhere and/or recruited by UTC after Russ said he wasn't going to do that. It's the nature of the beast. "Commit" in recruiting clearly doesn't mean what it should, but we have to remember coaches are shifting too. It always has a ripple effect. Go watch some UTC film. Their defense was stellar. We are going to upgrade significantly there. And alot of our recent recruits have been DBs. UTC's offense was fast paced, exciting and clearly effective, with as many high scoring games as they had. But, its very different from DR's and most of the kids we have lost have been on offense. There could be something there.

Meaning that those recruits aren't a good fit for the new offense? I would've thought someone like Nate Evans would be a great fit for the spread.

I would agree with you. He seems versatile, like he can run with power and catch the ball in open space, but who knows how Evans sees himself fitting in. There are more differences between DR and UTC's offense than just a spread. We normally had 1 RB in at a time. UTC has multiple backs in at once. Don't see TEs used much in the UTC offense and QB runs a lot. This has to be something these offensive guys are thinking about. Just my two cents.

You win some you lose some. Losing a kids to W&M and Northwestern doesn't bother me too much - shows we're targeting the right kids. We'll get our fair share. It takes time to build relationships and if we have a somewhat thin class this year we can make up for it next year.

With the abundance of RBs ahead of Evans, that to be a big part of his decision. W&M is similar in academics and may have quicker opening for him.
