Early Signing Day,December 4, 2024-December 6, 2024

DeGennaro into the portal.

Traynor with a Wisconsin offer. ZPS with Rhody (gulp) and UTEP. Mitchell with JMU. Gouveia with one from Western Michigan.

I will be anxious to see where all these guys land. Tough two weeks for our football team and supporters. These kids have been part of a winning program at a great academic institution. I hope we will start to get some answers on why so many are leaving. I guess each has their own reason but certainly hope some intense exit interviews are being done by staff to identify if there is a common theme.
I agree. Let’s not forget that some of these players may come back. Is there any real penalty for declaring and seeing what offers come on following a good season?

Not sure the UR athletic admin including coaching staff had any idea of the roster exit of key players which was precipitated by the move to the Patriot League.Everyone was concerned about the effect the move would have on the 2025 recruiting class which was ironically minimally affected.
Maybe they should transfer to Campbell, A&T, Hampton, Monmouth or Bryant then.

32counter do you know for sure that the Patriot League move is causing this or is this speculation?
Never said that move to PL is exclusively the reason for the mass exodus of key players. There are other, much more fundamental reasons.Thats as far as I can go on that subject.

If I’m our coaching staff, I’m not shy about the Traynor offer from Wisconsin. Go tell the HS kids, you can come to UR, not even be the day 1 starter, and you have the opportunity for a Big Ten offer. We’re going to help you get better. And you’re going to play and not ride the bench.

I’d love kids to stay longer but if we can pump out 2 or 3 freshmen all-Americans each year, we’re going to do ok.

We may need to up our HS numbers though. May need to be more like 20+ signees.

32counter, That subject to a lot of us is the reason we are so concerned. I am glad you know all the “Fundamental”reasons but am sad you will not share. Hopefully we get some answers from the AD or coaching staff or even players as to why they are leaving. We are a part of ticket sales, donations and put people in the stands and cheer at away games. I hope most feel we should have some answers

Peanuts, if we ranked the reasons for these transfers from UR, the Patriot League move would be #1. The chance to move up to a better program in a better league is probably #2. The opportunity for NIL could be #3. The player wants more playing time may be #4. The head coach (and his philosophy) may be #5. Other reasons- the academics are too hard at UR, he wants to play at a winning program, he didn't fit socially, his girlfriend broke up with him or she demanded he transfer, he battered a co-ed, he wanted to be closer to family, etc.

No player from Richmond wants to transfer to an academically better school.

If one has an exit interview, and a player says he hates X coach, the player probably has an axe to grind. Many head coaches are critical of players, who are more like snowflakes. They melt quickly. They don't like to be told that they need to improve and they don't like being yelled at.

Empowering players only leads to chaos.

All good points but I am not sure the Patriot League move is #1. If it is then the Administration is the cause, not Huesman and his coaching techniques and player interaction. I will say he and our coaches KNOW talent.

To be clear, I have absolutely no inside information with the program and this is purely based off what we’ve seen in public and my own reasoning. In my opinion, there’s a 0% chance that players will tell the coaches to their face that they are the main reason they're leaving. While I think the move to PL may factor into some of the changes, I don't think it would be as big of reasons as we thought. We see with high school recruiting that it seemingly had no impact at all and we have an excellent class coming in. So why are we seeing exodus of transfers? The only difference between high school recruits and UR players transferring is that the high school recruits have not been exposed to the University yet or the coaching. Sure guys will leave because they don't like UR as school (i.e. being too small, academics too hard, etc.). Also, guys like Traynor who get offers from Georgia Tech and Wisconsin leaving for significantly higher programs will happen. Right now though, it seems way more than usual. It also seems like a bunch of guys are willing to leave here who have an established starting role, meaningful playing time, ability to get accolades and make a name for themselves here, continue to be ranked/play for championships, and get a great degree, for schools at our level or slightly above. That is not good.

You’d make a pretty,pretty,pretty good P.I.

Again, I have zero insight information with the program and am only using my own logic here. There is absolutely no reason or incentive for players to tell the coaches that even if it were to be the truth. I’m sure the circle in college athletics is much smaller than we think and coaches likely call each other at times to ask their opinions on players they want to recruit who transferred from the other school. No reason for players to “make a point” and burn bridges.

"Hello, Australia? We need a new punter, one as good or better than the last one you sent over. Thanks"
