2017 Signees

When you have a coach like Fontel who is so likable and who engages personally with the recruits, it becomes more difficult not to consider the personality over the school. I mean this as a compliment to Fontel who, in my opinion, was one of the best recruiters we have had in a very long time.

That said, the recruits fail to consider the likelihood that because of his success Fontel (and others) will probably move up or laterally very soon and they will be without him as their coach at the school he urged them to attend. As much as I agree with the former post that it is silly to criticize a recruit for picking a coach over a school, I nevertheless think that it is wise to have the recruit (and his family) realize that changes in staff will likely occur and that the choice of school is also an important consideration.

Coaches change all the time. Career ending injuries can happen as well. Players should pick the school first.

Kroll has now removed "Richmond Football Commit" from his Twitter bio.

@colton_dowell posted a pic of all 8 recruits here. Can anyone name them all?

Evans, Vinson, Crawford, George, Dowell.

Is #21 Nicholson? #7 Payne?

Who is #70?

#70 is Jack Bowler from Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh, NC. He is currently committed to Holy Cross. My son played travel lacrosse with him back in Middle School. I do not know who Hagan is, but #70 is definitely Jack.

Thanks for the correction. Bowler and Hagan look somewhat similar to me based on the couple of photos I'd seen of Hagan, and they both wear #70. Sorry!

David Kroll committed to UD. That didn't take long.
I'm just curious. When you recruit a kid to one school, then leave for another school and now recruit him to that school, what are you telling him? "Just kidding about Richmond, none of that was true, Delaware is far better for you academically and athletically." Rocco is a snako.

Huesman & Durden both tweet big news out of NC & AL today --- Alan George fits the AL, Jack Bowler appears to be the only one from NC

Unfortunately most kids will choose a coach over a school. They don't think about the long term of getting a degree from the school, they think about which situation gives them the best opportunity to win or play more right away. The kids love the game of football and a lot of times it's a strictly football decision. This is also the same reason that we see so many transfers in D1 sports. You have to put yourself in these kids shoes. If you are a recruit and a new coach comes in that doesn't know you or didn't recruit you previously you may not want to stay at the school. Apparently some of these kids think Rocco gives them the best chance to win or play immediately, I disagree.

Some of these kids may not feel like they fit the new offense. UTC used smaller, faster guys on the line, running QBs and multiple backs. If these kids don't feel like this gives them the best option for success, I can't blame them for flipping. They're student-athletes, not just students. The academics at UD pale in comparison to UR, but some of these recruits have other options.

On the recruiting page I see Evans is listed as decommited. Did he ever state that anywhere on his Twitter? I'd like to think we are still in good shape with him since he made a visit yesterday.

Not exactly sure what's up with him. I listed him as presumably de-committed, because he deleted all of his old tweets about UR but left a couple about his new W&M offer up.

But now he's deleted the W&M tweets as well and it looks like we're still involved based on the visit. My best guess he has quietly reopened but still heavily considering us. Haven't seen evidence of others being involved, so it might only be us and the Tribe.

Thanks for the update.

This is the CAA, not the Southern Conference. If we go with smaller linemen we'll be the new Rhode Island.
I'm sure Russ is aware that you need FBS linemen in the CAA, even if we are an FCS school.

i hope so too , he seems like a player who would really well here , seems like this would by far his best fit , and your right dowell looks like a very good athlete seems preety high on us too , would have liked to seen some d line help but i guess at this level probaly the hardest position to recruit
