Early Signing Day,December 4, 2024-December 6, 2024

Moses Bailey, Elijah Lee, and Jeremiah Washington now on the official UR list.

With Insinga, Davis, and Watts out, it looks like we're waiting on Creamer, Kaludis, and Higgins among the known commits.

Higgins' ceremony was just a bit ago:

And it looks like Creamer's ceremony is at 6pm, so barring a last-second flip things look to be on schedule for him.

I know this is the world we live in now, but I will not support minor league pro football or basketball.
Can we stop calling them student athletes and call them what they really are, contract players?
And why even bother to recruit good players when they're just going to leave. Maybe we should poach DIII players and they will be happy as pigs in a sty

The rule should be to play in the highest level of league in which you can compete and which you can afford.

JOC article on signing day. Russ notes that the recruiting process began before the Patriot League announcement, yet "all of those commitments hung in there with us" despite that not being completely true. (Yes, guys back out every year because they get a better offer or for other reasons, so PL move not necessarily to blame for the few guys this year.)

“We started this recruiting process before the announcement was made and the decision was made, and we had quite a few commitments,” said Huesman, UR’s coach since 2017. "All of those commitments hung in there with us. So, obviously, it didn't bother them as we move forward here.

"Being in the Patriot League, up north it probably can help us in recruiting. I think probably down south, it can hurt us a little bit."

Impressive list. Losing a kid to a Big Ten school isn’t a bad thing. Love that a lot of guys on the d-line. Let’s get the best kids we can. I’d rather have freshmen all-America’s that transfer than someone no one else wants. If you can retain 80% of a great roster, you’re doing it right. Times have changed and you either adapt or die. We hit recruiting hard. First step that was needed.

I am sure after the playoffs they will go. They should not have been able to play in the playoffs as well as SDSU and Montana State, Montana as they all are probably moving up to FBS

It has been speculated that they will be invited to form the PAC 12 conference who lost most of it’s members or the Mountain West?

That new Pac-12 takes effect in 2026 with Boise, Colorado State, Fresno, San Diego State, and Utah State coming over from the Mountain West. The Pac-12 does still need to add one more football school to get the minimum of 8.

Mountain West will also be at the minimum of 8 as they backfill with UTEP, unless somebody like the Pac-12 poaches from the MWC again.

The FCS powerhouses have generally been viewed as more likely to join the MWC than the Pac-12, but it's still unclear how the Pac-12 will get to 8 with the AAC schools (Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, and UTSA) spurning the Pac-12's advances and Air Force and UNLV sticking with the Mountain West.

Maybe they could pick off a Texas school like North Texas (AAC) or Texas State (Sun Belt), or perhaps New Mexico State (CUSA), though none of them are super appealing. UConn was bandied about given the basketball drives the bus there and the Pac-12 is already taking Gonzaga. Toledo or Northern Illinois were also discussed out of the MAC, but that seems to have died down.

If NDSU stays in FCS, don’t understand how they can offer that many scholarships in one year , FCS only allows 63 in a year?

I thought they could be split - so you could have some on partial scholarship. Or they may be including walk-ons?

I think it will be Texas State. Not the best, but pickings are slim. I'd prefer to see NMSU, a truly western school for a western conference. Or even both, for nine FB schools and an eight-game schedule, plus two more baseball schools. They might take another shot at Memphis/Tulane but as a Pac-12 fan I'd rather not go outside of the Pacific or Mountain time zones.

There is a $5 million transition fee to move from FCS to FBS. There is also (IIRC) a seven-year wait before you receive any money from the CFP. There are also millions associated with increased staff, scholarships, support staff, etc., and a two-year transition period when you are not eligible for bowls. NDSU could probably absorb the hit, the other schools, no.

G6 FBS schools do not want anyone moving up. It reduces their already-meager slice of the CFP pie, because you know the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Big 12 are not taking a hit.

Yes, the 63 scholarships can be split among up to 85 counters, and then you can have walk-ons.

These are very serious defections which call into question the real interaction with
players by its head coach.

There will be more.
This one is surely a grad student transfer I would think.
Might be issues as you are stating, but with the two sixth year guys going off OL, this one I kind of expected, but hoped would not happen.

This is an anti-trust issue. These conferences are not allowed to restrain competition. I would expect the NCAA to be dissolved. Several of these uber leagues need to be broken up.

Have long said those split scholarships are the reason only three private schools have won the National Championship in FCS'/1-AA.
Spider tuition cut in half is still more than three times walking on at many state schools I would guess and a player's family footing the bill for them to walk on.

I checked a while back and Furman had about 105 one year and I have never checked Nova roster, but i was surprised Furman had that many.

If players are leaving because of issues with the coaching staff then Hardt needs to address that. Doesn’t mean fire Huesman but Huesman and his staff’s approach needs to be different. We do such a good job in finding and developing talent, and winning the past few years despite a lot of barriers. However, it’s going to be hard to maintain sustained excellence if we consistently lose our best players with multiple years of eligibility left. It’s hard enough already being an FCS school and competing with FBS money. No need to add salt to the wound more by our own doing.

Well, for what it's worth RH quoted as saying he is not a player's coach. Maybe an understatement?

Maybe or Maybe not but he has amassed some of the best talent since our Dave Clausen teams and National Championship
We had 2 and 3 deep talent at most positions the last 2 years. Rather have that and lose them as they move upwards 🏈🕸️🕷️

Huesman's remark was in a question he was answering about his relationship with Mike London the week before the W&M game...I may be mistaken from memory, but I believe he mentioned London being more of a players coach, before describing himself as not so much...agree it was an unfortunate comment

Huesman also repeated numerous times over the course of the entire season that he loved this team...that the group of guys was great to be around...that it was fun to go to practices...etc. etc.

it's confusing!

Go Spiders!

when you have 70 guys on the roster you’re going to have differences of opinion. I know players that loved London. I also knew players that disliked him. Same with literally every coach.

I think the assistant coaches have a larger impact on the players than the head coach. Critically important to be able to hire good assistants. I’m more intrigued as to how that shapes up this offseason. We clearly have a staff that can recruit and develop young guys. That goes a long way.

I say we hire Mike London to handle the players that Russ Huesman recruits and bring in Billy Coach to coach them. That would put us in the NDSU matchup 🕷️🕸️🏈
Sadly, I think Billy Cosh might view coaching UR in patriot league as a step down from Stony Brook in the CAA. Even with Richmond having a greater football reputation than Stony Brook. I think if/when London leaves W&M for whatever reason that it would be nice to bring him back to UR for some role before he completely retire. He is a grad here after all.
