    Honest Question

Well, since we can't beat them on the court, guess we have to go back to the country club academic smack talk. That won't perpetuate the stereotype...

    Honest Question

It won't be under consideration until the people who are in charge of the decision making feel the heat. And those people do not like having their image, reputations questioned. But when that happens and they feel the heat, ugly as it may have to be, things tend to get done faster. But much...

    Mooney Must Go!

Sadly, the culture at the top will make that difficult. But perhaps there is value in making those who are usually comfortable and unaware uncomfortable and aware.

    Why do we keep Mooney?

Judging by UR's history of hiring and firing coaches, just have a parent of a player complain. For some odd reason that is effective at UR, moreso than actually, you know, winning....Even in D-1 athletics....

    Why do we keep Mooney?

I've never been convinced that the administration or board cares much about being competitive in athletics. I always get a Judge Smails vibe from those people when it comes to athletics: "you'll get NOTHING and LIKE IT!" The silver lining I see is when Mooney's contract expires, he did a...

This board has really turned. Can't even tell a joke re: our perpetual mediocrity.

The Sporting News Predictions for A-10

Pretty solid stats! But I wasn't only referring to 3 point shooting. Our guards have constantly looked small and exhausted against the relevant teams, esp late in ballgames. It's easier for opponents to penetrate and move the ball from the outside into an easy scoring position when we are...

The Sporting News Predictions for A-10

I think they're underestimating how improved our D will be this season. We'll be able to lock down the perimeter much better which will have a nice trickle down effect. I expect us to win a lot of close, low scoring games, especially in OOC play. Similar to 2009-10.

    Sound Familiar?

Yes, let's alter the college game to cater to what NBA fans and owners want. Oh wait.... IMO, the NBA and NCAABB are two fairly distinct target markets. Very few folks absolutely love both. While some minor tinkering is okay, why would you want to make the college game a watered down version...

    Why coaches leave

Eh, the old Catholic Guilt routine never worked for me. Not my generation. It's natural for fans (short for "fanatics") to get upset and critical when things aren't going well. I'm sure Mooney's a big boy and doesn't let it bother him. He gets paid the big bucks to take the heat when...

    Best coach, Tarrant or Beilein?

That's a good point. I had forgotten how frustrating those first 2 seasons were at that position. I always have wondered, if Daon Merritt was our PG in 2005-06, are we an NIT team? Or just marginally better?

    Best coach, Tarrant or Beilein?

Re: Best coach, Tarrant or Belein? Agree for the most part, esp. 2006-07. The 2005-06 squad, it's tougher to assess absolute blame IMO. We were still pretty athletic, just not very skilled, zero depth, and totally ill-suited for the new style of play. I still think you blame the guy who left...

Re: 30 second possessions and depth

As mentioned in an earlier thread, the FC press & 30 second clock really took us out of our element. We were out of rhythm with passing and shooting, and there was less time to set up plays and metagame. If the NCAA is going to cater to the less cerebral, more athletic teams (they probably...

    Shaka Smart to Texas?

Rivalry banter aside, that would be a good job for Shaka IMO. More money, lower taxes as mentioned earlier, and acce$$ to big boosters and better recruit$. If a top 5 recruit wants to go to UT, they'll get him in, same as VCU. Re: expectations, UT seems pretty fair to me. With the...

Re: 30 second possessions and depth

Understand the transition to 30 seconds, but don't love it. We're an athletic, but cerebral, team. That's our counterpunch against the teams who roll out 5 poorly coached super athletes with length. The more time we have to variate the tempo of our offensive attack, the better. I liken it...
