The competition thread

Our four opponents are now a combined 2-10 vs D1 competition with one of the wins a head to head btw two of our opponents(2-14 if you include the losses to us). Good news is they are a combined 5-0 vs D2 competition. Wow is this schedule backfiring on us.

I cannot stress enough how entirely irrelevant and useless RPI is.
And I think you're wrong about that. For most teams, RPI and NET end up within ~20-30 spots of each other. Last year, our NET and RPI were never more than 20 spots apart from the time the NET was first published in mid-December. In the absence of NET rankings for this year, RPI is pretty much the closest approximation we have.

Yes, we're only four games in, so a lot can change, but right now things look disastrous on the SOS front. Our non-conference RPI last year was 41.

Win or lose, WVU will certainly help our SOS, so that's good, but I will happily eat crow if we're in the top 50 when the first NET comes out.

I wouldn't worry too much about the NET this year. With all the cancellations, and so many teams playing a different number of games than others, it's all about eye test this year.

I can see that. A win tomorrow would be really nice for that eye test.

Meanwhile, Dayton and Mississippi State are in a battle...double OT on that one. Hope the A-10 can get another scalp.

And VCU is taking it to ODU early while La Salle took care of Drexel. 3-0 today would be really nice.

Nice win for Dayton. VCU has ODU almost doubled up at the half. Go A-10!

UMass loses the rematch with Northeastern and URI drops a close one to Western Kentucky. It's an 0-fer day for the A-10.

Scary situation in the Florida-Florida State game as Gator Kevyntae Johnson collapsed and is now in critical but stable condition at a hospital. They say he had COVID earlier. Myocarditis is an occasional after-effect. Hoping he makes a full recovery. This also could have impacts on the season for everyone moving forward.
Was wondering if Covid related. Hope he is OK

I think the longer this goes without any meaningful sort of update, the worse it looks. His sister posted something on twitter today that made me think the family is trying to come to grips with saying its goodbyes, which would be horrible. Hopefully that's not the case and he pulls through somehow.

GW was up 18 on W&M early in the second half, then went scoreless for 7 minutes and ended up losing 85-84 in OT.

Medically induced coma is not good. Wow, unbelievable. Grant posted about it on twitter, and was honestly hoping it was very similar to Grant's condition. My niece and a kid I coached had the same procedure as Grant and were up and running in a few weeks and good so far. This is much much more grave. Hope he pulls through and can have a normal life. Geez.

Rhody has lost a Mitchell twin for the season...injured his knee yesterday against W KY.

Yes, as with all that goes with this covid season, very up and down OOC for A10 so far. 10 days ago, I was very positive on the A10, now looking incredibly mediocre - which is hurting our opportunities for good wins this season. Good that we are still hanging around the top 25. Just need to keep winning majority of games and no bad losses.

Some confusion about Keyontae's status...UF said this afternoon that he was responding to simple commands, so they must have brought him out of the coma. Sounds like he's probably got a long road ahead of him.

GW is really bad. Erratic guard play and their big man has the worst hands of any player I have seen recently. Im not sure how bad Fordham is this year, but they cant be worse than GW.

Pretty good day for the A-10...Bona finally gets to play a game and take down Akron, VCU rolls over Western Carolina behind 31 from Bones, and SLU stomps Indiana State. Unfortunately, Davidson lost to a bad Charlotte team to ruin the perfect day.

Fordham still hasn't played a game and has now given up on its OOC schedule.

Fordham brings the A10 down every year and now they don’t even have an OOC to cushion the blow. Yikes.

Well, Fordham is more likely to drag down the A10 when they play an OOC schedule. In-conference games are kind of zero-sum.

They are probably using all this time off to prepare for our Princeton offense.

Our RPI is down to 178...sheesh.

SOS ranked 288.

This is the part where I point out that our RPI is now around 36 and our SOS is around 106 (depending on who is doing the math) and that I need to start thinking about how I would like my crow prepared in case things hold up.

Nice win for SLU over NC State...get them scalps! St. Joe’s still looking for their first win after falling to Drexel, one of only a couple non-P6 teams on their OOC schedule.

After losing to Charlotte by double digits, Davidson comes back and beats URI. Fatts with another stellar 2-for-11 shooting night (did have 6 assists).

How can they look so bad against North Texas and ISU and then just completely destroy us? Crazy.

Bona jumped out to a 30-7 lead on Hofstra, but all of a sudden it’s a 3-point game with 10 minutes still to play.

St. Bonaventure blew a 23 point lead to Hofstra and is now down 2 with 7 minutes left

Bona survives.

Dayton has come back from a deficit to edge ahead of Ole Miss with 10 minutes to go.

UK battling UNC, but I think the Tar Heels are going to pull it out. UK in massive foul trouble and now having trouble scoring.

Yikes, now Sarr has fouled out with just 2 points. Three Wildcats have fouled out and still 4 minutes to go. UK just got its first field goal in about 9 minutes.
