The competition thread

Yep, good couple days for us. A-10 was 5-0, and Morehead State and Furman picked up wins. Hofstra did lose to Rutgers today, but no surprise there.

One thing that just occurred to me about our schedule that I had to double-check on was whether we can actually schedule another game to replace Detroit Mercy, due to the way MTE participation expands the max number of allowed games. Fortunately, it looks like we're okay. Here are the formulas for max number of games:

- 24 regular-season games and up to three games in one MTE
- 25 regular-season games and up to two games in one MTE
- 25 regular-season games without playing in a MTE

(A subsequent waiver by the NCAA is now allowing teams to participate in two MTEs as long as they still max at 27 games.)

We had a Scenario #1 schedule of 24 games plus a three-game MTE, but with the Detroit cancelation, we're now at 24 plus a two-game MTE, so we're free to schedule a new game against anybody and still qualify for the 27-game max under Scenario #2.
Kinda nice in a way to have that opportunity in hand. Suspect we'll have more before it's all said and done, unfortunately, but it would be nice to end up with UVA or Tech.

William & Mary hit with a positive, so their game at NC State tomorrow night is off.

covid is my biggest fear for this season. right now a positive test cancels a game ... no big deal. but what's the plan for March? if you get a positive test during the tournament, will that be a forfeit? I don't see how the tournament can just wait for a team to be cleared.

Great question. I think the NCAA hopes by March that their is enough vaccines out there to reduce the spread. The NCAA has done a lot of hoping with this virus though and most of the time that hope is misplaced.

I see the MWC, CUSA, & CAA are playing 2 conference games in the same location back to back. How many other conferences are trying that?

UMass pausing after a positive covid test. Means they have to pull out of Mohegan Sun event.

Asking anyone w knowledge about this... does a team completely have to shutdown and quarantine if one Tier one member tests positive, and if so, for how lonG? thanks

Davidson yet again comes up just short in almost knocking off Providence, GW loses to Hampton, and Dayton hangs on after almost giving up a 12-point lead to EIU with under 4 to go.

for football a positive test probably cancels just one game.

for basketball where you could have 2 or even 3 games in a week a positive test is really a major setback.

There's something about the scheduling chaos of this year making things interesting.
Same. Kinda cool to be able to just add games in the middle of a season, potentially some really good ones, too. It’s like a yearlong Bracket Busters.

My grandfather always swore that bourbon was a cure all for anything that ails you. I've been trying but somehow my immunity has not yet responded. Oh well, back to testing out that theory.

Vandy confirms games against SMU and NC Central are canceled this week. Scheduled to come out of pause for MVSU on the 13th and then us three days later. They haven't played since the day after Thanksgiving.

The Vanderbilt athletic department should just be imploded, except for baseball and probably a bunch of other Olympic sports I assume they're good at.

Probably would do better. She seemed to be the only football player interested in competing last week.

Noticed Vandy has updated their schedule to note our game will be at noon, which is 1pm Eastern...yes, another weekday matinee.

Will be on regular SEC Network. Was originally supposed to be on SEC Network+, but you know, what else do they have to put on the regular channel at that time of day?
