The competition thread

I think...
Top 6 remaining schedule

9-3 SBU - Davidson, GW, Dayton
9-3 VCU - SLU, Davidson
5-3 UR - UMass, SLU, SJU
6-3 Davidson - SBU, VCU
4-3 SLU - VCU, UR, UMass
6-2 UMass - UR, SLU

Aren’t all (except maybe SBU) likely to end with 4 losses?

But strange things happen especially in strange seasons...

If we win out, SLU wins at VCU and and Davidson goes 1-1, we most likely finish third or fourth in the league and finish the regular season with 4 Quad 1 wins and a winning record in Q1 games (4-2).

I would not underestimate the value of that latter stat at all. Right now, there are only 7 teams in the entire country that have that type of Q1 winning percentage in at least 6 Q1 games. That would put us in some pretty rare company, especially among bubble teams.

Looking at the A10 standings yesterday, I was pretty amazed at how far down the conference games total UR is. Not surprised, but just a bit eye opening to see us at 8 games while others are at the 12+ mark.

Could be worse though, we could be GW.

Davidson plays two teams in the top 45. Not sure how it would fall out of the top 75 by splitting with them. It might drop a few spots tomorrow but a road loss at Bona can't hurt that much and beating them or VCU at home will make up for it.

- Davidson slipped six spots to 78 following the loss, so they're now a Q2 for us.

- Bonnies jumped 8 spots to 37.

- URI dropped 7 spots to 99 after losing to GW, but they've been solidly Q3 for us for a while, so no changes there.

- We nudged up one spot to 58.

Davidson will creep back in with a win in one of these next two, and I suspect will hang on even if they lose the other one.

SLU has the toughest schedule. They have VCU on Tuesday and UR on Friday, then UMass on Sunday. Davidson also has a challenging schedule- the Bonnies again and VCU. However, there are no easy wins for any of these teams. It looks like Fordam had its season canceled.

As I remember Davidson is pretty tough at home. I think Spiders might be only team that has winning record playing them there.
I did not look it up and working with old man memory but, if right, maybe Davidson puts up a good fight against Bonnie down there. I would also think Bonnie is not going to go 11 for 21 from three, but so many times, like they did in the last game.

Davidson is 46–12 in conference play at home since joining the A-10. We've given them four of those 12 losses. Twice (including last year) we've been the only A-10 team to beat them at Belk.

I was surprised they fell as far as they did. I agreed with you not thinking a loss to SB would drop them that much. All of the teams they fell behind were idle yesterday, and just moved up a rung. Their ratings must be really tightly bunched right there around 75.

Yeah that was sorta odd. A loss at a top-35 or so team shouldn't drop you that far normally.

The Broad Street Fraud Rams just won on a bailout late BS phantom foul call with 4 seconds left. The whistle was blown after SLU got the rebound and was already going the other way.
It is never fun when they win, but does it actually help us in the standings this time?

Disagree, i think he got bumped on the way to the basket and again on the shot. That sure as hell better be a foul on Friday night or we’re in for a long night.

Absolute correct call. It was terribly late though, I don't know why he swallowed his whistle until the ball rimmed out. Regardless, VCU wins without its best player (and his backup Keyshawn Curry, whose brother was killed Saturday night) and only one PG.

Issue is the call was very late...once the ref saw slu got the rebound, he called the foul..piss poor

Logjam at 6-3, but we've got the tiebreaker.

SLU is in an ugly mess of a tie with GMU, Duquesne, and GW).

10-3 VCU - Davidson
9-3 SBU - Davidson, GW, Dayton
6-3 UR - SLU, SJU (2-0 tiebreak)
6-3 Davidson - SBU, VCU (1-1 tiebreak)
6-3 UMass - SLU (0-2 tiebreak)
8-6 Dayton - SJU, SBU

4-4 SLU - UR, UMass
(Mason and Duquesne at 6-6, GW at 3-3)

Yes, considering the adversity, that is a great win. Prayers up to Curry. Saw where Bones is walking without a boot possibly? Big win, no excuses like the hardt/Mooney duo.

yep have to give them credit. Grit. Vcu locked up a bid tonight imo and did it without their best player. Always 1 up the Spiders no matter what. 2 or 3 up is better description.

I come in peace:

-Yes, Bones is expected to return Saturday. Very big scare for Ramnation seeing him go down after the Weber thing.

-The whistle was the base line ref but the main official saw the ref waving late thus the delay. The refs were way more involved than either fanbase wanted to see.

-Ace played 40 mins. Our Rams were just running off what happened to Curry (Absolutely horrible.) and Bone’s injury. Most of us were writing this game off. Rhoades coached the game of his life tbh.

So who am I supposed to be rooting for right now in this SBU/Davidson game? I'm so confused.
I guess it depends whether we plan to win out or not. If we’re planning to, then we want Davidson to knock off Bona since we hold the tiebreaker over Davidson. If we’re planning to lose to SLU, we might want to give up on chasing Bona and let them pull away while keeping Davidson in check for us.

If we're "planning to lose" a game, I am done with this program.

Didn't think St. Joe's would be able to keep up the torrid pace this long. Still plenty of time though. Between getting Daly back and some other lineup changes, they're like a whole new team.

Bonnies win by 3
That hurt Davidson had chance to tie at end with a three and did not get off a clean shot. I do not think Davidson scored in about last two minutes or so.

Either outcome was good for us, honestly. Now it's pretty unlikely that we can win the league but our magic number to clinch a top-4 seed is one. If we win one or Davidson or UMass loses one, we've got the double bye.

True
I just got locked into wanting UR to win the league, but big picture being Top 4 is probably where need to be.

So…Joe’s indeed takes down Dayton. We’d better be careful against the Hawks.

La Salle’s gonna beat Duquesne by 20…I just can’t figure the Explorers out.

GW was up 13 on Mason at the half but couldn’t pull it out.

Mason took 26 more shots than GW but only won by five and only outrebounded then by 10. At one point they had taken 27 more shots and were losing by one. Really odd stuff.
