The competition thread

Hyland is tied for 14th in the nation in most three-pointers made. Six other worldbeaters ahead of him have a better 3-point shooting percentage, so I think they also belong in the discussion for top-5 draft status: Spencer Littleson of Toledo, Quincy Olivari of Rice, Tajion Jones of UNCA, Travis Evee of Rice, Luke Smith of Belmont and Dru Kuxhausden of McNeese.

Unfortunately, he is only 31st in the nation in points scored, but we know that he would be first if the other teams would just stop defending him so much, those jerks.

His assist to turnover ratio of 0.63 (35 assists, 56 turnovers) sadly ranks him outside of the top 300, but NBA teams typically do prefer players who can pass effectively either to their own team or the other one, and he’s demonstrated an ability to do that very well.

Also worth noting: he gets 3 offensive rebounds...so far this season. So once every 7 games, he gets one. Actually, why didn’t we recruit this guy?
Do any of them have his range?

I’d lay off on all the bones slander at least until Wednesday. Trashing a guy the week of the game is always the kiss of death. If UR wins then I will be joining in on the bones slander.

So to sum up, before the game you'll predict a bloodbath in VCU's favor, and say that Mooney can't rise to the occasion, but if Richmond wins, then after the fact you'll talk trash about Hyland?

A profile in courage and loyalty.

Did you expect anything different from a UR fan?

It's all good, Bones is aware.

If Bones is worried what one guy on a forum of maybe 40 is saying then the NBA is not for him. Maybe the G-League (where he will end up) is better suited anyways though!

I just find it funny that his argument is “VCU is going to beat Richmond, therefore Bones is a first round talent”

You clearly don’t know Mooney if you think it takes a first round talent to beat him.

I just did a mock draft, and no VCU players showed up in it. A couple guys from Rice went in the top 10, someone from Chicago State in the top 20, and a bunch of Euros in the last first round. It was wild!

Who's the top 2020-21 player of the year candidate in every college basketball conference?
Atlantic 10 Conference
Front-runner: Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland, VCU Rams

During his team's current five-game winning streak, Hyland has averaged 23.2 PPG. He also has made 39% of his 3-point attempts in league play.

Top competition: Jalen Crutcher, Dayton Flyers

Last season, Crutcher was one of Obi Toppin's key teammates as the future New York Knick was pushing toward the Wooden Award. This season, Crutcher is averaging 19.3 PPG in league play for a Dayton squad fighting to get into the league's top tier. He also has connected on 40% of his 3-point attempts for Anthony Grant's squad, which entered the week 7-5 in Atlantic 10 play.

And at least we did not go to a school who has a coach that thinks six players on the floor for one team is a good idea.

Believe it or not, I got hired from my economics degree and not based on the basketball team. But my next resume I’ll be sure to put Sweet 16 appearance on there.

I don't know if this hurts us or helps us.
I mean, I really want VCU to lose....but it sure makes us look bad that GMU can go into Seigel and give them a better game.

Update: Bones Hyland just got carried off the court.

It helps us. We didn't beat them, and we want to get into the top 4 for the tourney. We could finish 8-3. This would make them 9-3, with a couple hard games left.

Of course it's overtime. Great. Our game is suppose to follow their's on tv. They always find a way to screw with us. Sorry for Hyland, but maybe that will keep the trolls busy for a while.

I would be upset that they took 9 seconds off the shot clock, but 4 seconds off the game clock, if there wasn’t a steal.
yeah, they clearly miscalculated those adjustments, thought it should be about 28 and 25, turned out not to matter

In Fairfax
VCU 66 GMU 61
UR 77 GMU 57
Talk about how match ups can affect outcomes...

Surefire NBA Hall of Famer Hyland 17 points on 1-5 sitting from 3, 6-12 overall and a whopping 4 rebounds against nighty George Mason before his season ended. Hope he's able to come back healthy next year.

All I heard is a sprained foot and being reevaluated. Kinda feel for the kid. Having to carry that team playing 40 mpg is taking a toll on his body. Hip flexor then this. Hope he recovers soon. Maybe hell just do what all the other star athletes do call it a season and start prepping for the draft and declare before the season ends?

Bona beats Davidson, which helps us because now we're only half a game back of them and hold the tiebreaker if it ends up that way. They are 6-3 but still have another game against Bona in three days and then end the year against VCU at home. So they are likely to finish 7-4, I'd say.

If we beat UMass, we'll both be 6-3 too, and we'll obviously have the tiebreaker over them. They finish with SLU, which is probably a loss. Tuesday is a huge game for us for seeding purposes. Win it and I am feeling pretty good about getting a top-4 spot.

If the rest of the games go chalk, and they won’t ...
Tourney would be

1 SBU vs 8 Duquene/9 GMU then 4 Davidson vs 5 SLU

Other side

2 VCU vs 7 Dayton/10 URI then 3 UR vs 6 UMass

I think...

If SBU and VCU tie for first, the first tiebreaker of head to head is also tied, so then I think it goes to record against the third place team, fourth place team, etc., right? I suspect Bona will win it outright, but a lot could happen.

Is Bona 9-3 with 3 games left?
Is VCU 9-3 with 2 games left?
