The competition thread

Mooney teams are just incapable of avoiding bad losses. Every single year we have at least a couple. Great teams don’t do that, but we do. It’s just really disappointing but no one can be surprised by it at this point.

We have 2 Quad 4 losses.
I'd say 1 max, and either La Salle or Hofstra need to climb out of Quad 4.

I agree with 1. Probably being a split w SLU.

but it’s hard to believe in a 50-1 shot.

Even the very few Moon apologists on here likely can’t conceive of that. They have abandoned the regatta.

Are there any teams in the MWC that have had one coach and missed the NCAA for the past decade? Asking for a friend.

The following MWC teams have earned a trip to the NCAA tournament more recently than us:
Boise State
Colorado State
Fresno State
Nevada
New Mexico
San Diego State
UNLV
Utah State
Wyoming

The two remaining teams in the conference not on this list have a head coach that has only been there one season (in his second stint with the team) and the other 4 seasons although one of them is a "Princeton Offense disciple" so that has to count for something 😂

The reason I go through the effort to list things out like this is to show how maddeningly ludicrous it is that nearly everyone and their dog finds a way into the damn tournament except for Moonpie

And SDSU not having a super year, but love to watch the defensive intensity and ball movement. And their 60 year old coach has been adapting and shook up the line up a bit. I do love how the whole staff and bench is up and going crazy on a defensive stop and shot clock violation. I don't think they will make the NCAA this season, but Dutcher will not sugar coat or blame covid, he will take the blame and say it is unacceptable.

In my time of watching Spider hoops I cant remember us winning ANY big A10 tourney games. Every one we had to win we lost.
Off topic... Obi Toppin is fu yo watch on Knicks. Dayton had a good chance of winning it all last year.
Since October 2011, we have won 5 of 13. 2 Fordhams, 2 Duquesnes, and our best win a 19-13 GW.

If there is an A-10 Tournament we will see what happens this year.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that bad. I figured at least in one of the NIT seasons we beat someone in the A10.

We all knew Mooney was bad in A10 tourney but that is hard to look at. We also only got by that GW game as a favorite in last seconds with "Khwan Fore steals the ball"

That is truly horrific. And I was at some of those games but still didn't realize how ugly it is. Woof.

Definitely not pretty, but really the only two losses that stand out to me are the VCU losses in 15 and 17. Those are the ones we needed to get to go where we want to go. Just those two wins I think would have eliminated a lot of frustration in the past nine years. But, the bottom line is we needed them and didn't get it done. So, it is time to deliver this year and win the thing.

Yeah...but even worse is that we were eliminated twice by those clowns AND it cost us tourney berths. Double whammy. The teams we have beaten were all garbage, and that GW game was way closer than it needed to be, too.

Only the 2015 vcu game would have put UR in the tournament with a win. 2017 UR would have had to win the auto bid because Mooney and his team crapped the bed in the non conference. I’ve made this point before too but the 2015 vcu lost shouldn’t have even mattered if UR just could have beaten jmu and GMU who were both horrible that year.

Don’t discount Jesse Pistokache’s big Simon Says win in 2017. That was our most impressive conference tournament win since 2011.
And he won while playing hurt! With strep throat or whatever he had.

Mighty Utah State drops its second in a row, this one to now 6-6 (and #153 NET) UNLV, 59-56. VCU's glass-encased golden trophy win is beginning to look like more like it's made from pyrite. This knocks Utah State down to a Q2 win. Boohoo.

Alabama is tearing up the SEC, and is favored by 6.5-7 over Kentucky tonight. Looks like we scheduled them a year early.

It's 36-31 Dayton lead at halftime. Kentucky blows another game they could have won. At Alabama. Such a terrible year to schedule Kentucky....

Is that St. Louis down there next to St. Joe’s at the bottom of the conference? So hard to see all the way down there.
