The competition thread

Talk to me when VCU beats a real team. Yes, they've won 6 in a row, but there isn't one team in that 6 that will even be sniffing around a NIT bid this year. There win over Memphis early got some attention, but Memphis is just 6-4. They beat St. Joes yesterday handily, whose best (and really only) player was out with an injury.

They may hit us up with their depth this year. 3 solid bigs, 4 solid guards, 3 solid forwards. They go at least 11 deep. I guess we can see how they do against Davidson this week. Thing is, everyone talks about Bones, but they can have off games from him and still win. They are much better this year than last year.

Umm you lost to Hofstra at home. Pump the brakes a bit.

VCU was dominating JMU and simply stopped caring. It happens. JMU was a replacement for losing the LSU game, so it was a potential trap game, and JMU got fired up.

This VCU team is much better than last season's. Vince Williams is playing amazing disciplined basketball in all facets, and freshman Watkins is one of their most efficient players, he's a beast.

Kenpom:

VCU Strength of Schedule: 155
Richmond Strength of Schedule: 61

VCU's last 6 games: Mount Saint Mary, North Carolina A&T, ODU, Western Carolina, JMU, St. Joes.

You couldn't hardly pick a weaker group of teams to play if you tried.

By my calculations, and subject to change...
I see NET profile being:
VCU
Tier I 0-2
Tier II 2-0
Tier III 1-0
Tier IV 5-0

UR
Tier I 2-1
Tier II 2-0
Tier III 2-1
Tier IV 1-0

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in Monday's NET (plus effected by Saturday games...)

Of course, that also only indicates the resume and not who is the better team...

Peeking at their box score, they had nine players with greater than 10 minutes, and another one that had 9 minutes, 11 players scored and 12 played. At least their coach can "find a way to get them in the game more"

Where are you getting this from? There’s no way we have two Quad 1 wins. We might have one if Davidson can sneak in the top 75. Wofford would have to be top 30 at home to count, and I don’t see any way that happens. I don’t see Loyola making top 50 on a neutral court either.

I did have to piece it together myself but...
Torvik without Preseason (use Nov 2nd start date) is:
Home
Wofford 108
Hofstra 130
Neutral
Loyola- Chicago 42
Morehead ST 239
Away
West Virginia 25
Davidson 75
Kentucky 99
Northern Iowa 116
Vanderbilt 154

T-Rank - Customizable College Basketball Tempo Free Stats - T-Rank (barttorvik.com)

No idea if Monday's NET will be similar...

Thanks...I’d be surprised if Loyola is that high.

In other news, Duquesne and GW are going to play twice in DC this weekend. That will eliminate the Feb 24 Duq-GW game in Pittsburgh, freeing up a date for the Dukes to fit in another game. But it doesn’t directly create an opening to make up their games against us or SLU, as we both have other games scheduled the day before.

Any Idea what happened to Bracketologists.com? I thought they had the best presentation of NET...

Doesn't matter, we're still better than UR and will show it soon. But unlike UR, we beat everyone we were supposed to beat. You lost a buy game.

VCU is currently ranked 56 on KenPom, a spot above UR, after UR beat Davidson. Nice try though.

Didn't VDU have a senior laden starting line-up last year and where favored to win the conference? Didn't work out so well for them.

Can't wait, talk's cheap. If you weren't worried you wouldn't be here.

Not every out of conference home game is a buy game, Jon Rothstein.

Lion is a troll but until we beat VCU with any consistency I really can't blame anyone for picking them over us.

Imagine how pathetic your life must be to have your team go 8-10 in its conference last year, yet you go onto an opposing message board of a team that went 14-4 in the same conference and criticize that team? Lol.

Oh yeah, so pathetic to take 5 minutes out of my day to post on a board.

That 14-4 team was better than this year's team, but y'all can ignore that and carry on.

Also, urmite has been posting on our board for years now, and we don't whine about it.

Well, maybe, and that team had the 10th best 3 point shooter in the country. What is your point? Would VCU be better or worse without Bones?

UNI turned out to be a bad game, not much we can do about that one. As opposed to past years when weak schedule turned out pretty good, this year see.s the opposite. And Mr. Average Mooney seems to be Mr. Average. Not a great combo.
Fickle people, we can only schedule them. We can’t play the games b

Let's cut the barbs and quips and all agree that neither team has lost a single game in 2021. :)

The future is in their respective hands, but I like what the Spiders bring to the court.
