Spiders add 6-7 Isaiah Bigelow from Wofford, with two seasons of eligibility
The University of Richmond’s basketball roster changed again Thursday when 6-foot-7 Isaiah Bigelow joined the Spiders via transfer from Wofford.
I hope Isaiah can be the three-point threat we need, but I don't love that he was under 30% last year. In fact, he's a career 30% shooter from there if you take out his 13-for-18 against non-DI schools. Those four games pad his stats by three percentage points.
Maybe Trap can convince Mooney to turn him into a center?
Would love that. As I've seen you and others mention, this last spot should be a F/C imo. Would be nice to let Walz redshirt/not be forced to play backup 4/5 minutes if we get in foul trouble. With Bigelow, we're loaded at G/wing.
I think Bigelow & Crabtree & Goose & Dji for that matter too all can turn up from 3 this year coming off of injuries, getting back into the groove, etc.

At least defensively, I think Bigelow is more of a 4 than Noyes. I have not seen either of them play.
I think he can be a factor from 3. I realize the percentage was low this year, but I see an always great FT shooter with good form and range. Wouldn't surprise me to next year see him closer to his 39% from 2 years ago than his 30% this past year. There are also 33%ish guys you can leave open, and 33%ish guys you need to guard. I think he is a guy the other team won't leave open, which will make everyone else better when he is out there.

Well, 7-8 is still 7-8. I like the fact he had some games where he shot and made a high amount of 3s.

I know I shouldn't hope for it, but give me Nweke to finish things off.
Regardless of who starts, I think based on our two decades of experience, Mooney will settle in on an 8-man rotation of:
Goose, Nelson, Dji, Burton, Crabtree, Bigalow, Grace, and Quinn. Randolph is 9th man, and next man up in case of injury. I'm not expecting much run for Noyes, Dread, or Walz.

Honestly, with this lineup, and a lot of our roster, we should bring back the matchup zone as an option.
Actually do think he would be a perfect fit. Reminds me a bit of Cayo, solid 248 lbs and does his damage inside.

you could change "Mooney" for "pretty much any coach". 8 guys will get the most minutes. still have one guy to add though that could break in. and we know nothing about the freshmen to either write them off or write them in.
I realize this is against a D2 team, but still impressive to me. A lot to like here. Size, form, release. Catch and shoot.

I loved that game .. was shocked when we lost to VCU by 12 the next game. I thought we were unbeatable based on how we trounced St. Mary's.
Ok, I was wrong, 9 deep with a 10th guy who was at least getting a couple minutes per game.

our 9th guy played 270 minutes. 10th played 124. 11th played 60
point is that Mooney plays as deep as most coaches. yes, some like VCU play the 9th - 11th guys more.
Yep. If not 8, most teams go with 7. None of the final four teams used their bench much, and they all did fine. Duke played 7 guys, and the other 3 teams basically played 6 except for a few spots minutes.
Yep. But, no one went 7-8. Actually, no one made more than 3. And, there is a difference in D2 and D3.
Based on rebounding numbers and FG percentages he looks like a 4 to me. He definitely was a 4 at Wofford. A little change in shot selection and he could be very efficient as a 4 for us.
That where I agree, you might get open easier against D2 but you still have to make the shots, and he proved he can.
