Drake 11/20

Not being hard on them at all, just saying that Kentucky was a bad team last year, so the win we thought was a really good one on the road turned out not to be one. And I can't remember many top-60 true road wins of out conference under Mooney, that's all. I hope we get one tomorrow but the data suggests we will not.

Kentucky certainly wasn't the defining win we hoped it would be...
Still ended up a good win just not a great one...

A true road win at #61 NET team is definitely a solid win. Funny that EL mentioned top 60 when talking about road wins. I guess if Ky. had finished 58, he would have said top 57. :)

I picked top 60 because someone said Drake is 54 or something. I didn't realize Kentucky was 61 in any year-end ranking, but let's face it, they were 9-16 last year. It's tough to get too jazzed about beating a team that's seven games under .500, I don't care what the rating system says they are.

Anyway, Kentucky last year, Florida a bunch of years ago... Are there any other top-61 OOC road wins during the Mooney tenure?

Little bit of trivia...Drake is currently #1 in the old RPI system. They're 1–0 against DI competition, and their opponent South Dakota is otherwise undefeated with a win over Air Force, which itself is otherwise undefeated with wins over Tulsa and Texas Southern.

Ah the good ole days of the RPI

I loved reading the Drake board as most posters actually seemed to like their team.
Do you mean they are normal people?
Well, I think (repeat - think) they have won their conference & gone to the NCAA's within the last 10 years. That dose of reality goes a long ways in creating positivity instead of hanging onto "next year".

We need to win these critical OOC games prior to A10 schedule. OK - USU happened and is in the past. A team can have one of those losses & hopefully learn & adapt. More than another of these types of losses results in additional pressure for in conference major success.

wasn't when we beat Florida a neutral site?

Let's face it, this is not the type of win that is in Mooney's pedigree. How many really good OOC road wins have we ever had under him? Kentucky last year looked good at the time but really wasn't, plus there were like 300 fans there, so it wasn't really a typical road game.

This will be a game where they get ahead early, we claw back to get within six or eight at the half, maybe take a brief lead early in the second and then go cold down the stretch and lose by 14 after a bad shooting day.
Agreed. I don't see a W tomorrow. Hope I'm proven wrong but Mooney's been around long enough, you kind of get a feel for what happens in a big road environment like this.

Damn, love me some Dji. Dad, you got any scoop? Hopefully, this is just as Noah reports. But we've been circumspect with our injuries before, saying they are minor, and then we don't see the player for multiple weeks.
Nothing major as of now 🙏🏼…just precaution..bone bruise that’s causing some pain. Dang…Noah be on it

numbers wise I think a win at drake would resonate the best for us ooc esp as a true road game. Other games may have more visibility due to names but not help out numbers as much as this one.

plus as I mentioned in another thread u can’t lose to another mid major big contender like Drake. Utah st probably won’t be there but if they r we already have that L.

I just wonder if Mooney & players have sense of importance & urgency. Sure many games r big w our smaller margins but some r bigger we know that. We should win this type of game with all our experience & continuity. Last year we won virtually none minus KY which was mirage. & so far started same way w Utah st loss.

According to kenpom, this is the 2nd hardest game remaining on our schedule. Only the final regular season game @bona will be tougher. Maryland on a neutral court will be close in difficulty, but kenpom gives us a higher chance to win that one.

already covered but they have experience, continuity and talent. and they're home.

agree tough game. But nobody in country has more experience & continuity than us. Nobody. It’s time to go get it. To exceed expectations. No more atta boys no more we competed. We already flubbed Utah St. Time to excel.

Touch of friendly Sat morning trash talk going on in their board ...

You pissed off some of the Black Widow Fans with the snobbery, east coast pracks comments. HA!

Near god of the darkness come forth and send me your power of flame to bad luck the Richmond Spiders.
Curse, curse, make them murse. To my feet, Spiders will reet.
Misfortune all day,
misfortune all night,
bring bad luck to the Richmond Spiders,
but only for a might, as I say so
mote it be.

We said the same thing about Ga State. We have learned major lessons in our last games. I have faith in our team.
