Georgia State 11/16

One of the advantages to being calm and collected is you don’t look like a lunatic for the entire world to see.

But that stuff better be going on in practice and the locker room. It should be four alarm fire after those defensive efforts. Otherwise expect more of the same.

Pregame with Golden and Mooney. Grant did say the Utah State performance was unacceptable, but he also said the magic word..."competed." Mooney also says it's "probably fine" that we haven't played our best yet and he's happy that we're "moving in the right direction."

Another good line from CM “Without sacrificing too many minutes from guys that have traditionally played a lot….” I guess that sums up the loyalty factor. I think the time has come to break the tradition. You don’t have to play the same guys because you actually have depth. How about if the guys COMPETE for playing time?

Wilson plays > 25 mins at off guard, we win. Wilson plays < 25 mins, we lose. From everything read and said, it sounds like we need his D against this backcourt.

Its super early, but based on the first two games, this is a line in the sand type of game. I expect to see a very increased level of effort on defense. I expect both Cayo and Burton to have big games and our defensive intensity to be much greater - at least for this game. It's early, but how many seasons in the past have we shot ourselves in the foot in OOC, and then played pretty decent in conference play? Another Mooney trait.

I do fully expect a code red type of game for tonight.

I am very interested to see how any minutes adjustment between Sherod and Zay, and opportunities for Dji and Crabtree.

Sounds like bettors are paying more attention to Torvik than Pomeroy...

I agree 23. Looks like the hope of an at-large bid could easily fall by the wayside with the way the A10 is faring in OOC games and any other losses by the Spiders when they are favored. Then it will be back to the usual “must win the A10 tournament” to get in story that has been discussed too many times.

The list of available excuses is getting rather short as well. I expect the Robins Center to do all it can to provide the “spark” that the team needs to get energized, but in the end it is going to require real effort on D. Looking forward to it.

Go Spiders!

Maybe some of you can provide more encouragement going forward. Let’s go Spiders, I believe in you!

Don’t worry gcarter52 I will be there cheering on the home team. That is more support and encouragement than a post in a Forum. Hopefully the players are spending time practicing and not reading this content anyway.

Hopefully they’re practicing defense, or perhaps for the first time learning what it is

That was a fantastic half of basketball. Keep it up in the 2nd!
Crucial that we match their energy and points in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. That would go a long ways to taking their will away.
