Georgia State 11/16

I think we all knew we could shoot, it’s nice to see everyone hit AND we play solid defense. fun to watch us dismantle this team. This should be the game that really gives the young guys confidence too. Love Nick off the bench.

Take it to the bank.

1 down.
I don't bet on sports because they are unpredictable. You can have your 16 years on Mooney. When we travel out to Drake next. That should be more of a measuring stick than this one game. We can all celebrate tonight. But I want to see the same focus at Drake.

Just a perfect game from the Spiders. What's up with Grace. LOL. Good strategy by Mooney going defensive which seem to disrupt GST from ever getting in rhythm and Nick came in and took over. Spiders easily put them away. They got to at least show this intensity from the get go against Drake. Going to be tough but a wins takes away the UtahSt defeat for me. Looking at their roster appears no stars but just a lot of contributors.

Next year we still have Burton, Wilson, Dji, Crabtree, and Grace (hopefully) who all performed really well in this game. I was happy with next year's preview. They shot 20/27 and scored 55 points.
I will be shocked if Burton stays.

First time in awhile we didn't take our foot off the gas with a lead and gave the bench more than just a few seconds playing time. Good win, we can't afford any more slip ups OOC.

We are going to need more contribution from Cayo.

I agree, but today I’m ok with him getting 2 points and deferring to others if he pulls down 8 boards and has 6 assists. He didn’t need to score today and instead of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole he let the game happen instead of forcing himself on it. Don’t think there will be many games like that

Continuing on the Cayo conversation, weird to be typing this, but I cannot figure out his role with how this offense or team composition is coming together through 3 games. His defense is generally fine but not spectacular whereby he has to be on the floor. He has looked out of sync with offensive flow so far, mostly because he is a one dimensional offensive player. His other teammates are finding a lot more open shots through ball movement rather than relying on back to the basket posting up from NC on the blocks. He doesn't stretch the floor and guys like Burton (6'7"), Crabtree (6'6") and Bailey (6'5") are very athletic, can shoot the ball but also slash like Cayo (also 6'7") can without sacrificing a lot of height or strength.

All this to say - maybe a whole lot of nothing and Cayo has a completely different type of game coming up. Opinion may be clouded because everything looked good last night as the guys shot the ball so well, but I preferred the offensive spacing and general game flow with Cayo resting last night (shrug).

Will be very interesting to see how Cayo is used and progresses. I felt like we played our best ball last year when we pounded it into Cayo and Golden. They were both very effective in the paint and this opened up the perimeter. Cayo is not an outside threat, and it does seem to be our game even more than ever with Golden jacking three's. Looks good when falling, but I do see a point when we will need to establish and go to Cayo down low.
