Andre Wesson - 2016 Offer

If you can't explain then don't post. Makes me think you are just full of BS.

You don't have to believe anything I am saying. I don't mean that I have no explanation for it, I mean I am not going to explain it here, in deference to the source of the information. He very well may sign with OSU. I would expect him to do that, in fact. But we are very much in the running, even still.

Well, I'm kind of floored that this offer came with so many high-star offers out there for OSU, particularly at spots of greater need. Maybe they think they aren't getting any of those other guys. Will be hard to compete with osu short of him seeing a crowded lineup at both 3 and 4 there.

Good find, Fan1. Just posted in recruiting thread that the Spiders are looking at Prince Oduro for 2017. He is a strong big man with skills and a high motor. He is from Canada, so it looks like our coaches have no boundaries when it comes to recruits. OSC

Sorry Alex...this is a bad offer and an even worse take.

Corybuckeye: This move screams desperation....our recruiting has gone to s**t

Here's the link, some of the stuff is interesting.

I'm not the most knowledgable on recruiting, etc. but is there any chance they have given him some sort of an offer with qualifiers? Such as "we've already offered player A and he has until April X to accept, if he hasnt accepted by then our offer to you stands."

I'm not if sure that's even against the rules (not that it would probably matter, especially to big boy schools). But to me if he's from Ohio, dreamed of going to OSU his whole life, gets the offer, there has to be a reason he didn't accept immediately and I don't see it being his choice.

I think an offer is an offer, but the reverse certainly happens, as in: "We're offering you and 3 other guys, and we have 1 spot available. Whoever takes it first gets it." That's what X did with Wesson in the fall, and someone else took that scholarship.

My sense is that he wants to go where he can play, and that seems unlikely right away at OSU. Obviously the family ties are really strong there, and that may win out in the end, but other things are at work here.

We are screwed. Mooney never lands guys once the big boys come calling. One of the many reasons he is a sub par recruiter. Even if Wesson somehow doesn't choose Ohio State, he would still pick Butler over us. Ugh. On to Option B, which undoubtedly is someone with offers from UT Martin and Northern Kentucky.

Eight, I for one appreciate the subtle, cryptic inside scoop! I don't expect full disclosure and details all the time.
of course he probably doesn't come here. heck, Butler's a hell of a choice, too, if not OSU. but we're still involved. we've done everything possible and he knows we really want him. he has a day 1 opportunity here and that's got to be appealing. and nothing would be better than landing him after he received an OSU offer!
some of you give up to easy. I know that's healthy and you don't get hurt (like after waiting 3 years for the last AW). but hang in there for another few weeks!

Come on Andre, be strong, do what you know in your heart is best for you and always listen to your mother, she knows best...Be a leader, and perhaps your brother will see the wisdom in your decision, join us here in Spidernation and maybe, just maybe, your brother will follow your lead.

97, we have never gotten kids that have offers from the Butlers or Ohio St. types. You may not be happy with CM but he is not the problem in this situation. We are who we are in this.

First, I would suggest that CM has landed some guys who also had P5 offers (Nick, DeMonte, TA, ANO) so hard to claim he "never" lands them. Wesson's probably not a great example fyi, he's someone we were in on early, he blew up, and has a brother going to OSU where his dad also played. If the roles were reversed, we would be praying he didn't get scooped by a P5 team if he was a legacy here.

But here's a legit question, what's a reasonable rate to land these guys? 20%? 50%?

what Eight is attempting to relay without spilling the beans is that he knows i am on this one still.

That is because Mooney has been doing our recruiting for the past 11 years. He made us this. Our other conference mates can land these guys. UVA wasn't getting the caliber of recruits when Leitao was the coach that they do under Bennett. A good recruiter is a good recruiter is a good recruiter.

I should stop responding until you change that avatar but ...
which 3,000 student schools in any non P5 conference are landing guys that have real offers from OSU and Kansas type programs?
look at this objectively as if you're a recruit. it's a rare kid that walks away from those kind of programs if they show any love at all, special circumstances aside (location).

He will certainly play here.

At least one guy who's been following Andre very closely thinks it's not over yet.

He has a lot more potential for early playing time here based on our lack of depth at 3/4 compared to OSU. He should be looking seriously at UR if that matters.

"Wessons's offer sheet is not that impressive". Nice comment from an NIT team.

We can only hope he wants to actually play for 4 years and not sit and cheer on his little brother.

At what point do they have to make a commitment? At this point it's pretty ridiculous that you cannot make a decision. Almost every other kid has, so it makes me wonder what he's holding out for.

Any verbal commitment can be undone until there is pen-to-paper.April 13 is the earliest.
While we are prepared to make a $250,000 investment in a 18 yo high school
senior, leaving home for some ain't easy.Mom's,Dad's,siblings, teachers, coaches, friends and especially girlfriends play a role in a kid's decision.Layer on top of that the potential to play on the same team (even if it's a non-major role )with your younger bro on a local team that has national recognition in a preeminent national conference.
Coming to Richmond or Indianapolis for a 4 year visit may seem like going to the other side of the moon for someone that has such close family ties.Great places to start your own life and create your own path but for some that's very tough to decide.

He cannot commit until April 13th at the earliest. Not sure why you are so upset about a guy taking his time to make what is probably the biggest decision of his life so far.
