Andre Wesson - 2016 Offer

Good thing the message board police are on the case.

Talk is cheap - why else would I (or anyone else) be posting on here? Maybe the lesson is any potential recruit with the initials "AW" is predisposed not to attend Richmond. To carry the banter further can anyone think of any players other than Adam Ward in the early 90's who had the initials "AW" and played for the Spiders in men's basketball? Since we have fielded a team for over 100 years and only had one "AW" on the roster that may say something -

yeah, if I'm CM I'm not even going to look in Aaron Wheeler's direction this summer.

He was never coming to UR. People need to read the tea leaves. Or actually be realistic.
I sure as hell think Mooney thought he was coming until Ohio State lost all its players and offered. We all knew it was over then.

Look, I would have fired Mooney after this season. I'm pretty well on record saying that over and over again. Having said that, it's pretty remarkable that not only were we in on this kid until the last day, we actually stood a pretty good chance of getting a commitment from him! His dad played at OSU. He lives 20 minutes from OSU. His brother committed to OSU. There is no chance in hell we should have even been on his radar, but we were – so much so that his own family had no idea whether he was coming here or going to OSU.

From what I have been told, all of that was because of Mooney and Jenkins and the relationships they built up there. So people can say we had no chance, etc etc, but we did have a very good chance. He just chose another offer. That's all.

So, we have to look for the silver lining here - - when OSU pisses him off by recruiting over him etc. and trying to run him off, we have a great relationship with Andre and his family, so we swoop in and take him AND his brother away from OSU!

Our 2019 Final Four Team features TWO pairs of brothers in prominent roles - - the Goldens and the Wessons!

I wouldn't call it recruiting over, but I have to think it will be difficult for him to get time there this year. they only lose one senior. the guys that transferred out weren't playing much. so a lot comes back and they'll recruit as well as they can next year.
I never like to say a kid we really want won't get time somewhere else. that's weak, and that would mean I don't think highly of our program. he'll have a chance there ... but it will be very tough early and possibly tough all 4 years. not that it would be easy here, but with little depth at forward right now he almost had to be in the rotation.
I do like that CM built a strong relationship.

My bad SF. Forgot we aren't allowed to dissent. Heil.✌️
here we go with the poor disenfranchised poster talk again. When you start with "not to be an ass..." It doesn't excuse you from being considered one once you follow through with it.

If the report by MM of Andrew White working out at the Robins Center is true, one could argue that CM still has a 'strong or great relationship' with him even though AW rejected us twice. Like I have said numerous times, I see no evidence that the current sales team has had the ability to close a "big" deal in the past eleven years! I point again to Kenny Smith from Lloyd Byrd who was a very good student from a great family and wanted to stay at home and chose VCU and wound up at UNC after Shaka left. I don't think we were ever in that conversation.

A person who knows a lot about basketball told me that Kenny was very much over rated. OSC

I agree we were never in the conversation for Kenny Smith at UNC, but I think you mean Kenny Williams.

We lose Sam Miller to Archie Miller, Kenny Williams to Roy Williams. I'm getting tired of this nepotism. :p

Think Kenny Williams was the subject, not Kenny Smith who attended Archbishop Molloy High School in New York. OSC

You are both correct, it was Kenny Williams from LC Bird who I attempted to reference- Thanks for getting me straight!

our recent commits are pretty darn big. Buckingham in particular had some huge offers. he didn't stay home just to be home. Mooney was a huge part of it. Sherod had nice offers and some big time interest that he could have waited on. I believe Davidson, who some say out recruits us, was one of many that wanted Friendshuh. of the top of my head we know ANO had big offers to choose from. Harp was offered by Providence.

it's pretty tough to beat out OSU for any kid much less a kid from Columbus, or to land any kid that's been offered by Kansas. I think a lot of schools would love to have Wesson. why weren't they all in his final 3? Mooney's doing a great job recruiting. UR isn't the premier destination to every kid like it might be for us fans.

Agree. Currently, Chris and his staff are doing a great job recruiting. OSC

Even Keith Gill has to have a couple drinks in him before he can say this with a straight face.
Buckingham, Sherod, Golden, Godwin, Schneider. I think that's awesome, and I can say that with a straight face all day.
Fore for sure and I think Friendshuh, too.
too early to say about JJ and Pistol. not a big start, but I'm not writing them off yet.

Big Luke was graded an 89, so ESPN grades don't mean much to me. but I'll give Jesse and Julius plenty more time.

Food for thought. With the kids transferring at the drop of a hat now days, coaches want
to leave a good impression in case it doesn't work out at the players first choice. Maybe
he'll end up going to his second choice next year.
