Wesson is approaching Andrew White territory in thread length. That does not bode well.

Spider theme song for unobtainable recruits after thousands of posts and ten thousand views.-a common recurrence.Sad.

yeah, same "the door is open whenever you're ready" offer that hasn't worked so well before.
I like giving him time to finish his season. I love that we've gone out a number of times and shown him how much we want him. pretty soon, though, he's got to decide if this is where he wants to be or not.

Nice stat line again for Andre as Westerville South advances to the state finals.

Guess the game wasn't quite finished when that stat line was posted. OSU was in attendance.

BTW, the team Westerville beat tonight, Garfield Heights, has 5 D-I commits: Seniors to Louisville, Mizzou, and Youngstown State, and juniors to Toledo and Cleveland State.

Anyone know if Ohio state has an underclassman on the verge of declaring for the nba when their sesson ends?

We were at his last game, correct? And might have been at this one. I'm sure the coaches know how much is too much.

That said I agree with Eight, Mooney needs to get Wesson. We can't keep striking out on our prime targets, this is why we are where we are.

There were over 13,000 people at last night's game. Usually easier to identify coaches in the audience in a small HS gym with 400 people there.

97, no offense intended, but lately we have been quite successful in signing our "prime targets". Two years ago Khwan Fore was our main target; last year Julius Johnson was the #1 target; and this year, Nick Sherod Grant Golden and Monte Buckingham were our main targets. There were a number of misses in previous years, but the last few years our coaches have done a great job acquiring those they set out to get. I think we will reap the benefits of this success very soon. And I agree, it can't be soon enough. OSC

If Ohio State magically finds a spot/scholarship on its roster, he will end up there. What 18 year old, who lives in Columbus and has watched Buckeye hoops his entire life, would turn it down? Anyone on this board would make the same decision. We can't compete against hometown team, Big10, father's family ties, and brother playing there in two years. It would be no one's fault-although I'm sure it will end up with a 10 page string from the experts.

No offense to Julius intended, but if he was our #1 recruiting target, that should tell you something about our ongoing recruiting issues.

I don't think anyone is arguing with that. But it still seems unlikely that OSU offers him, unless they have a couple more scholarships open. And I don't think he can afford to wait forever for that to happen. I think he likes Richmond, has gotten a TON of attention from our staff and will come here if he doesn't get the OSU offer.

There don't appear to be any OSU players who are going to the draft. Their leading scorer was a junior forward who averaged 13 ppg. It's possible someone transfers out, of course. Most P5 teams have at least one guy leave most years.

He will certainly play a ton all 4 years if he comes. No doubt about that.

I am not sure of this, but I have been told that Curtis Blair played even less than Julius his freshman year. He apparently learned the system and became all-conference his senior year. I realize he was under a different coach, but I am hoping that such a path awaits Julius as he matures and gains more confidence.

JJ was Our top target and was Getting interest from some P5
Schools when he committed early to UR. I think he will be good, needs more time and confidence to shoot/score. Also needs to use the extra foot between him and the three point line. While I understand Ullas sentiment on this, we can't be satisfied with getting one top target per class, we need 2 or even 3 because stuff happens.

First, we can debate whether Julius was worthy of our number 1 target, I would say no. Secondly, the P5 interest he was getting was some peripheral interest from Florida who had a signee on his HS team and there was a lot of conjecture that they might also be looking at Julius. Huge difference in my book, between offers from a P5 school, strong interest, and then what Julius was getting from Florida. Julius is like Trey Davis, if he ends up starting or playing a starters role for his as a junior or senior, that does not bode well for us.

Secondly, as Tbone said you can't just get 1 top target each year, yes we have done that. You have to use ALL OF YOUR SCHOLARSHIPS each year on guys, who have the ability to play at our level. We have a very bad habit of recruiting substandard talent after we get our first or second commitments. Can't do that this year. Well, we can, but I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Mooney's floor than this ceiling if we do. I've seen enough of Mooney's floor.

I have no idea whether JJ will be a good player, a great player, or just a contributor. At this point I feel he is a proven contributor. I liked the way he progressed through this past season and feel he will only get better as time goes on.

I also agree with 97, we cannot afford many misses in recruiting. but I do believe the 3 we have next year and the the 2 the following year will be contributors -- great, time will tell. We never get 5 stars.

Buckingham and Sherod are the two most highly ranked recruits that Mooney has pulled in and were our two top targets this past recruiting season. Even if we don't get Wesson this will be an incredible class, and we certainly got out top 2 targets. Golden could be really good as well, I think MM said he may be the best of the bunch. Not sure how much stock to put in that, but this recruiting class has been extremely successful no matter who else we get, Wesson or not. Next years is already shaping up to be really good as well, on paper at least. If Mooney continues to recruit like this we will be in good shape, recruiting has always been his biggest flaw. We know with the right players he can take us pretty far, hopefully he is starting to get the right players again.

You only need to bat 2 for 3 with each class (presuming even distribution) to have an 8 man rotation. But you must average 2 for 3 each class to have an 8 man rotation. In our rising classes, we are 2/3 among seniors (TJ/SDJ), 0/0? among juniors, maybe 2/5 among sophomores (KF/JJ) and I'm speculating 3/3 among the incoming freshmen (pure speculation). That's 7 guys, not quite cutting it.

actually, how do we know that this guy is so great? everyone we are after appears to be great, according to posts here but don't think we really have a clue. have been on the job on this one even though i don't really know, just trust you video watchers and your keen eye toward great players. i, don't recall how much Curtis played his frosh year, know that DT did not play frosh as much but do know that he was a darn good player for more than his senior season.

Safe to say we don't know.

How do guys go from talking about a recruit we'd like to get to dissing one of our freshmen?
I hope the players don't read this board.
Quite the opposite, I have said all along this class will be a huge improvement.

Ulla, No offense intended, but if JJ was our # 1 target in last year's class, it highlights and amplifies our recruiting shortcomings. He has average speed, not particularly quick and has a 'hitch" in his shot. If he was a 3 star recruit and destined for stardom why did Mooney go after Buckingham and Sherrod. It is mighty crowded in the backcourt now and we have more coming in the next class.

JJ averaged 28 ppg as a high junior and was 2nd team all-state (Florida!) at the 3A level. again ... as a junior! whether he becomes a great player for us or not, that's why he was a #1 target for us. you evaluate and project.

+1

The reason JJ didn't get more attention from other schools was because he did not play AAU if I remember correctly. While he did not light things up as a freshmen, by the end of the season he was averaging over 15 minutes a game and showed he is athletic enough and to play defense at an A10 level and he has a good understanding of our scheme. His offense will turn around when he gets more comfortable, I hope.

We hoped that Trey and Deion's offense would come around as well. How did that turn out? I'm not giving up on JJ but I watched him all year and yeah his minutes increased but I don't see anything more than a 6th or 7th man off the bench type of player.

Josh Jones was a player that you could see potential to be a great player, Khwan has potential to be a really great player. As 9 legs pointed out above, there are some holes in JJ games (average speed, problems with his shooting mechanics, can't really create his own shot) that will inhibit his offensive upside. Defensively, he reminds me a lot of Trey Davis, in that he doesn't do anything really poorly to say he is a bad defender, but doesn't do anything really well that would indicate that he will be an above average defender.

He's a freshman and he can certainly get better though.
