Andre Wesson - 2016 Offer

I was posting about Mitchell.

Harris is a tiny guard in the mold of K0. Maybe we should go after him! Giddens is 6-10 and wants to be closer to his home in Georgia. Richmond is closer to Georgia than Ohio, last I checked!

This is playing out the way we expected. I figured that when OSU offered Andre, it was because there were some transfers coming. Their fans already were not thrilled with the class coming in next year. This mass exodus should raise some eyebrows.

When we sign Andre Wesson and get Andrew White as a grad transfer on the same day, this site will self-combust.

The level of delusional verbosity on the UR Basketball Board continues to amaze me.It's turned into a gossip column in which posters compete with each-other comparing continuous written absurdities.Dream on,posters.

Guess you missed the sarcasm in my post. I do not expect any of the OSU transfers to end up as Spiders.

I will only believe we are out of the Wesson sweepstakes when he officially signs with someone else, however.

I was hesitant to bring it up, but this thread needs more posts. I saw Andrew White working out in the Robins Center this past Saturday afternoon.
That would just be hilarious. Coach Fezz would love the first line in his bio on the Nebraska website:
  • 2014-15 Husker Power Lifter of the Year
So next year an SDJ / Andrew White back court, with Fore first of the bench, closely followed by RUN DMB - Jesse, Julius?
SF has Marshall battling with Wesson, Sherod and DMB
Pivot 1 - TJ with Paul filling in.
Pivot 2 - Grant and Wesson, Wesson and Grant

Instead of a big man transfer we borrow Spike Albrecht for the year and we do go with 3-4 guard lineups. Reinstated "Posse consists of Fore / Spike / Jesse/ DMB/ Nick.

Andrew must have enough credits to graduate by now right?

I saw the Albrecht was leaving and thought he would be a really good fit for this past year. We really needed a shooter at the SG position, didn't have one. Alas, next year with Demonte, Sherod, Khwan, and SDJ, I think we are well covered in the area. Jesse/Julius also provide some additional roster flexibility at the guard.

What gear was he wearing?

Maybe his little brother wants to transfer from Charlotte. He had a pretty nice year for them despite not being very heavily recruited.

I don't have a problem with it at all. as coach, you build up a good relationship with the kid over many years. is it all a lie? are you just trying to lure him the whole time? or like you're saying, do you want the best for the kid? I'm glad he's working in our gym. hope he's making some of our players better while he's in there.

To get back to the point of this thread...

I just checked 24/7 Sports on Andre. For the last couple of weeks, his interest in Butler, Richmond, Xavier, and Ohio State was labeled "warm" - tonight, Ohio State is listed as the "Favorite." This is a new rating. Hope we can get the kid from IMG Academy - bigger schools are now getting interested.

I think they listed that as soon as he got the offer.

Who knows, maybe we'll have a second chance if he's on the transfer list in a couple of years.

Wesson is committing to us and Dominaus is transferring to Ohio St.

Wait, that was yesterday...

If he does somehow pick us over Ohio State, Butler, Xavier I have 2 thoughts - 1. Mooney's recruiting has hit amazing new heights and 2. Wesson would immediately become one of my all time favorite Spiders.

If.

If I am a player who has offers from my favorite in-state Big 10 school, a top 15 program who is in the NCAA every year, a top 30 team that is NCAA bound (and 2 recent final fours) every year, or a 16-16 team a long way from home that hasn't been to the tourney in quite some time, "which one would I choose."

Nothing wrong with dreaming, and we can still hope until he signs, BUY it is not looking good. As I said weeks ago, I can't fault the staff on their effort to land Wesson, they seemed to give it a good effort. And, If he fell in love with the program on his official visit and made the commitment at that time that is one thing. The chances of him coming here now are extremely remote.

Ohio State has a 75% rate of going to the NCAAs and their program has been going downhill over the past 5 years, but your point remains. Different people have different qualities they look for in a program. If playing time is high on Wesson's list then he may want to come to Richmond instead of Ohio State. There is a lot of talk about culture issues in the Ohio State program, perhaps he likes the players, coaches and culture at Richmond better.

I still think it's a long shot, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion he goes to osu. We can be hopeful, I like that we're aiming higher.

T, don't know how much higher we are aiming. Nothing special about the elder Wesson, a top 200-250, 3-star recruit. Be nice for him to be a Spider, but he is not a difference maker. OSC

Ulla, we do not have a track record of getting 3* guys as I suspect you know, er go, we are aiming higher. I'm not suggesting he's a program-changing recruit and he is obviously a late bloomer, but these are the kind of guys we should regularly be going after. Not sure how you can predetermine that he's not a difference maker, that's at best presumptuous.

LOL, if you read some of the earlier posts from this thread you were very high on Andre. Why the change?? He will be a difference maker if he comes to Richmond.

I'm glad the staff is making these types of players our priorities, they should have always been our priority.

In combination with the 3 we have I believe it would be a game changer to get Wesson. Remember this year's game isn't that tough to change.

We all get ulla's schtick by now, don't we? He loves everyone we sign and talks down about everyone we don't sign or who he thinks we won't sign. Obviously Wesson would be a great recruit for us.

And I think the point is a good one 2011. Ohio St making the tourny 7 out of last 8 years comes out to 87% which close to perfect and yes ranking wise going downhill last 5 years.

Though looking at those Kenpom rankings starting in 2012 they come in at 2, 7, 20, 21, and downer season this year at 80. Only direction would be down but my hunch is Thad will have the team back up again soon. Numbers are fun to play with.

If Andre's brother hadn't posted #PackageDeal below, I would feel better about Andre. St. Louis, Seton Hall, and Georgia Tech are all showing interest in Aleem Ford from Florida. Not telling our coaches whom to recruit - but I want to get one of the above recruits, if not two. I don't want to see us go zero for two...

Considering we have 3 spots open currently I think we want both of them. I am fairly certain Aleem's offer is not contingent upon Wesson.

if OSU is Andre's dream school, his brother is committed there, and he's been offered ... wouldn't he have committed on the spot? I mean, I would have. I can't come up with a good reason why he wouldn't, other than he's not sure it's the right fit for his career.

as for Aleem, I agree. we've offered. the offer stands. we want him and there's a great spot for him here. have to think we're hearing soon, right?

I guess by May 18? Though I don't even know what an NLI means? You don't have to sign one do you. You can still get a scholarship.

Yeah, his brother obviously wants him to go there, but the rest of the family doesn't know where Andre will end up. He's his own person, which is a good characteristic to have.

Agree, if Ohio State is his dream offer, he would have already accepted it. Think we are still in the game on this one. Not sure what our odds are but the door has not closed.

So you're saying there's still a chance for AW?!

*flashbacks*

in theory the OSU offer should have ended everyone's chances. seemed like that was what he was hoping/waiting for. but he didn't jump.
so many follow the bright lights and it doesn't always work out.

That tweet came out when he was offered, I wouldn't read any more into it than it's Kaleb being excited that Andre was offered. We all know we are probably an unlikely choice (as anyone is) compared to OSU, but again, the fact he hasn't taken the OSU offer suggests this isn't a simple choice for AW.
