Top 25 ranking

Big win for the Spiders today and great week over all. They are in very good position to move up into the AP top 25. #18 San Diego State had a bad loss today to BYU by 10.

#24 Clemson, #20 Ohio state and #18 SD State might all drop out of the top 25, with #26 U of R, #27 VA tech and #26 Saint Louis moving up.

SLU may leapfrog us. A 15-point win tonight for us would have positioned us much better. But we'll see.

agree it would have helped to win bigger when we had complete control. On other hand I’m not sure how much voters really analyze spreads vs just W’s and L’s. The bigger issue is NC State is more of a name team. Them & Loyola r actually probably similar levels in quality and our game was neutral vs a home game for SLU. No fans but still home. Hopefully we’ll both be in there but I have feeling SLU will leap us.

Clemson and Louisville both will be exiting the poll. Us and SLU in? I guess their entry will depend on whether they beat Minnesota tomorrow.

Anybody know when the first NET rankings are due out? They released the first ones last year in mid-December, but obviously we got a bit later start this year.

Answering my own question here...the NCAA will start publishing the NET on January 4.

This week has seen a lot of losses for the AP top #15 through #25. Of the 9 teams that played over half lost so far, with bad losses by #15, #18, #23 and #24

#15 Florida State 74 - UCF 86 also W 86 - GT 74
#18 San Diego State 62 - BYU 72
#20 Ohio State 60 - Perdue 67 also W 77 UCLA 70
#23 Louisville 48 - #12 Wisconsin 85
#24 Clemson 60 #27 - VA Tech 66

Did not play:
#25 Michigan
#16 Missouri

#23 and #24 will drop out and possibly #18. There is also a chance Michigan might drop out that only had a 2 vote lead over Richmond.

Richmond, St Louis and VA Tech all had good weeks. It will be interesting to see how their relative ranking changes.

Being ranked is an honor but that puts the bulls eye on your back. Team focus has to be high and not look past anyone. Right now, every game we play, we have look at each opponent as a ranked team.

I think a lot of voters will move us up several spots this week. Away wins at Vandy and Loyola are attention grabbers.

Of course he keeps SLU ahead of us, even though they lost to his #40 team while we lost only to his #5 team. Makes perfect sense...

They're a good team, but they have one good win and a much worse loss than us. It's mostly irrelevant at this point, just kinda funny to me that he keeps propping them up because he picked them to be good months ago. The irony is that he based his entire elevation of them over us for the A10 this year on the one game we played last year when they beat us after injuring Blake.

Their NC State win is probably better than anything we have as well, if NC State is indeed a middle of the pack ACC team and Kentucky doesn't pull it together.

New poll is out...Spiders actually dropped a spot to #27. We got 142 points, up from 140 last week. SLU still one spot behind us, although they lost a bunch of votes.

VT, X, and Oregon all passed us, while Clemson and Louisville dropped below us.

I’m not surprised, at least we can do something about it by simply holding on to a big lead. It’s still early in the season.

Yes, they have two wins better than our best win, at the moment. It's entirely justifiable.
Hopefully, UNI can go on a run in the MVC. They don't have an NCAA win yet.

I think it is fair. We are close. If we keep winning and have more complete games, we'll be right where we want to be.

I think everyone on this board would like to see U of R as a perennial AP top 25 team. It is very difficult to achieve, because mid-majors are at a recruiting disadvantage and it is very difficult to schedule top tier teams.

This weeks poll is very disappointing. The AP voters are prejudiced against mid-majors and give teams like Richmond a very small margin of error. If we can't make it in with a week of 2 nice wins and a lot of AP top 25 losses, it is going to be even harder with our schedule the rest of the year. Thank goodness for the coaches poll.

This might be one of your funniest lines ever. So, national college basketball voters are going to be swayed bigly by us beating the predicted last place team in the SEC and a MVC team coming off a 14 point loss to Wisconsin that we beat by 2.

After looking at it, those teams had good wins last week, so it is fine. We just need to keep winning. Not only for the ranking, but more importantly, for the dance.

Best thing about Coaches Poll is we are two spots above the "don't want to play game cancelling" Duke Blue Devils...............................think many coaches were "put off" by Duke's move........................

Oh yeah - the former assistant to Coack K at Army and Duke and the man who was interim head coach at Duke when Coach K had an injured back............................

Like you, I hope we are able to climb back into the polls for the notoriety it brings. Fortunately, we don't have far to climb.

I don't believe the AP voters are "prejudiced" - 3 of the top 6 in the final '19-'20 poll were mid-majors, and 2 of the current top 6 are.

Our robot overlords have us ranked significantly lower. If anything, the mere humans that make up the AP poll are giving us a boost.

My issue is the difference in rankings between last week and this week. We win 2 games and drop one place. Many of the teams that moved up I don't think had as good a week as U of R. For example Michigan does not play and they move up 6 spots.

First step is to stop believing we’re a mid major. Many people don’t consider the A10 a mid major conference, and even if you do, having the mindset that being a mid major is a disadvantage does nothing except create a crutch/excuse and help lower expectations.

There’s nothing creating the mid major glass ceiling except ourselves.

Being concerned with, OR living or not living with polling numbers is folly at best. Polling is vanity, some bragging rights maybe (like recruiting), but meaningless as a focus.

Like many others, I predicted that UR would be a top 15-20 team this year. That has not materialized as of yet. Right now, on the court, the Spiders are playing a lot more like a top 45-55 team. Borderline NCAA, likely yes, but maybe no.

Could the team play get better, of course. All is not lost, the Spiders are 6-1. However, if consistent improvements don't come together soon, it is going to be tough to win the A-10 tournament, and we might be sweating more than we anticipated come selection Sunday.
