Stop comparing this class to 2011

We aren't getting games in. The program is shut down through Feb.12. Look at the schedule no room to add more games. This year is completely messed up with Covid so comparing this year to any year is unfair. Losing to Hofstra and Lasalle are way different than Iona, ODU, and Bucknell. Iona went 25-12 in their conference that year which was 2nd in their conference. ODU went 27-7 that year. Bucknell went 25-9 that year. Lasalle and Hofstra aren't winning +20 plus games.

Since you posted this on another thread, I will do the same. I loved the 2011 team, but I also love this team. I think the comparisons are legit.

It's not really that different. Those teams the 2011 team lost to had good years, but Iona played in the CIT tourney, and Bucknell won the Patriot League, so I can pretty much say for a fact, when you review posts on here, that this year's team would get absolutely no credit for beating a CIT team and a Patriot League team, but a whole heck of a lot of crap for losing to them. But, hey, no worries, we can just disagree.

And, a year earlier, the 2010 team went 13-3 and 24-7 in the regular season. The 2020 team went 14-4 and also 24-7. The 2010 team was 14-6 and not in the dance at that point, but won 10 of their last 11 to finish 24-7 before the A-10 tourney. The 2020 team was 15-6 and not in the dance at that point, but won 9 of their last 10 to put them at 24-7 and in very good shape for a bid. The 2011 team lost to W&M, the 2020 team lost to Radford. The bottom line is we have no way of knowing how last year's team would have turned out had we actually had a conference and NCAA tourney. Some on here have said we would have lost our 1st round A-10 tourney game. I think, after winning 9 of our last 10, we were peaking and would have made some noise in both the conference tourney and the dance. But, we will never know, and if you think otherwise, we can just disagree. All good.

It really is different. The Bucknell and Iona teams that the 2011 team lost to may have looked bad but really weren’t all that damaging. Both won over 20 games and Bucknell actually made the ncaa’s. Both teams also had a couple future NBA guys so you could argue they actually had a lot more talent than most of the other teams we played. Even in 2010 losing to William and Mary wasn’t that bad either. That tribe team was good and was one game away from making it to the NCAA’s. The only other sort of bad loss that year was to Charlotte who at the time was one of the better teams in the league before they took an absolute free fall to close the season. Charlotte was always really tough because they always had a ton of size and talent, could never figure out why they weren’t better than they were in the league. Oh I know, maybe the same reason UR can’t get over the hump...

The Gilyard and KA comparison are what get me. KA is in the rafters at the RC for a reason. Gilly will go down in the list of great guards that Mooney has had that never tasted any meaningful postseason success.

this covid stuff is really unfair to this year's and last year's teams. last year's chance for glory was taken away from them. this year is TBD, but looks to be slipping away. yes, if you want to put it all on them or all on Mooney you can. they did lose 4 of 14. but it's a tough year.

talent-wise, this graduating class is terrific. they're a group of all-time great Spiders. I hope they get a chance to finish strong.

That's fine and all, but if you are going to use Kenpom, who I like by the way because I like using the efficiencies, to get a feel for how good our teams were in 2010, 2011, 2020 and this year, why not just see what our ranking was/is?

2010: 54. (77 Offense 35 Defense). And that's after playing in the A-10 and NCAA tourneys.
2020: 46 ( 53 O 54 D).

2011: 39 ( 41 O 54 D), with the benefit of the A-10 and NCAA tourneys giving them 5 more wins.
2021: 53 ( 24 O 99 D).

So, yes, I think the comparisons are legit. But, of course, we can just disagree. No big deal.

Sorry, didn't happen. It was close early 2nd half, but UVA went on a 16-0 run in about 4 minutes to turn a 36-36 tie into a 52-36 lead. For all the timeout guys on here, Pitt called a timeout after Huff hit back to back 3s to make it 44-36, and that timeout did so much good that 2 FTs and 2 3s from Hauser following the timeout made it 52-36. But, hey, good thing Pitt called that all important timeout because that always works, right? LOL.

Ya I’d rather talk UR basketball on here too but they haven’t given me much to be excited about since I was in 8th grade 10 years ago. If you had told me that year that 10 years later UR wouldn’t have gone back to the NCAA’s a single time in the next decade there would have been no shot I would have believed it.

I was never excited last year because I knew how it would end, I have seen that movie with this program many times. Probably a good thing for Mooney that we didn’t get to see the end. Admittedly I was excited this year when UR got into the top 15 but that quickly dissipated. Again I said UR basketball hasn’t given me much to be excited about, so 2 weeks this year was about the extent of that much.

No, we are just really confused as to why you have so much support for such a bad head coach. There is really not much that you can defend Mooney with, so if you’re cool with going to NCAA’s once in a blue moon with some nit and cbi bids sprinkled in then cool. The rest of us want better and we know that we are capable of a lot better. I mean we even got plydog to come over to our side, maybe you should do the same. You still gonna post on here when Mooney is gone?

We lost to Bona on a last-minute second shot, and we are better than VCU. How we'll play in the actual games, who knows. But we should expect to win 3 of our 4 games against VCU and SLU if we play all four, which we probably won't. So two of three is my expectation.
