Spiders paused through February 12 - GMU, Dayton, GW, and VCU games postponed

Just heard there will be no radio show again tonight. It will be resuming next weekend with Mooney and special guest John Hardt. What a joke. I guess the dictatorship has to come out and spin this whole situation as something other than what it is.
I am thinking the dictatorship runs the message boards also. Another deleted post.

Hardt and Mooney have been waiting for this season for about 4 years now and now that is upon us and we a month out from Selection Sunday, we have been completely radio silent on our MBB going on 2 weeks.

Just because we can't play doesn't mean that our entire operation has to mothball itself inside the RC.

I think they are ready for this season to end to be honest

Mooney is looking at you disapprovingly.

Its a crap situation for sure, but agree with 97, it would be nice for some leadership and communication from Mooney and Hardt.
glib
(glĭb)
adj. glib·ber, glib·best
1.
Performed with a natural, offhand ease: was fascinated by his unfailingly glib conversation.
2. Given to or characterized by fluency of speech or writing that often suggests insincerity, superficiality, or a lack of concern: criticized him for being glib about something so serious.

After last week cancellation this one was as predicted. But if they wanted to have it they easily could. They just don’t want to. It’s not like they gather in person at Bill’s bbq anymore. It’s all remote.

You’d think next Monday has a chance to be mildly interesting but I expect lot of pats on the back for dealing w unusual circumstances and then a pep talk from Ivan.

PS also perhaps some analysis of a Carson Wentz trade & a preview of the Eagles next season.

I understand cancelling last week, but why this week. Just talk about this week how you keep the players engaged during a pause like this, what needs to be done down the stretch, how do you feel about A10 tourney in Richmond, etc. There is so much they could talk about - but choose not to. Disappointing.

The disappearing act is part of Mooney's risk aversion operating system. He has shown repeatedly (and I have noted repeatedly) how Mooney tightens up (some would say chokes) when under pressure. He becomes an ultra-conservative, play it safe, don't take chances, coach in the heat of the moment. His unwillingness, or inability to take smart, calculated chances (those that provide an opportunity to hit the home run) are part of the reason he is a lukewarm, mediocre, just above .500 coach.

Mooney's response to this situation with St. Louis follows the exact same pattern. A little pressure, a bit of discomfort, he cocoons, his withdrawal an attempt to avoid the problem. This type of so-called leader hopes that the storm will pass unnoticed. The "no need for you to know" management style is another example of very weak leadership.

Unfortunately for us, Mooney's performance has been validated and even rewarded by his bosses, who apparently are cut very much from the same cloth. Tepid leaders tend to yield average performance. UR has 16-years basketball data that makes the case.

Not saying we were in the exact same situation with the SLU game, but here's an example of both teams likely being cleared but one pulling out because they weren't comfortable about something.

So Miami objected to them partying without masks, but presumably didn't object to them playing entire games without masks? I get that partying in a crowded bar or wherever they were (I don't know) was stupid and different than being in a game involving players who are tested every few days, but it's also not THAT much different in the grand scheme of things. Enough people on the court in any given game are around at least one other person every day that there's always going to be some level of risk playing the game.

And I'll add that players wearing masks on the sidelines but not during the games is absurd. Wear a mask all the time (my pick) or not at all and just take your chances. If I have COVID and I'm PLAYING IN THE GAME without a mask, a bunch of people are going to get it. Me coming out of the game, sitting by myself and wearing a mask is not likely to protect anyone I haven't already exposed.

maybe I missed it but I haven't heard of any cases where a bunch of players contracted Covid from playing an infected person in a game or practice.
I have heard of a bunch contracting it from an infected person at parties and in travelling.

This isn’t about the ‘rules’ this is about how UR screwed up a season......with ‘the greatest team ever’. Still a chance but so far? What is going on?

Hey 4700 we haven’t heard from you in a little while, you doing ok buddy? Must be a lot going on with all your teams.

I don't get the masks for the players or coaches on the bench. If they pass protocol and get tested day of game and pass - then why the masks on gameday?
Because even if you test negative, you may be infected but it is still too early in the course of the virus to be detected. So the mask is another, easy form of protection.

I agree with this — but it begs the question: Why not wear masks during the game? The double standard for the same players depending upon whether they are in the game or on the bench is bizarre and illogical.

My guess is he has taken a leave -- maybe permanently -- cannot say I would blame him. Some guys have been relentless in attacking him because he had a strong opinion.
Wow! Hey mister pot, meet mister kettle. My observation is that if posters on this site post something that is negative about Mooney or the team that YOU disagree with, YOU “quarantine/suspend them” as being a “troll”. I fully expect I’ll be the next with this response. Last time I checked, this is the USA, not Russia. But then I got my education from a public institution, so what do I know.

Looks like I had a post deleted, let's just say I think this board is fair to open minded posters - but one has an agenda that is specifically "pro coach" only, and not "pro program". My guess is that we ever do get a new coach, said poster will attack the new coach like he did Buzz Williams, even though he did a great job at VT.
Take me for instance, I was pro Mooney when he was hired - though many of my class mates from UR were against him. After his success, I still liked him, but was on record that I didn't think it would be a bad idea if he took the BC job and we got another up and comer, was afraid of the long term contract and demotivation that would provide. Heck, even a few months ago I was willing to say he had turned the corner - with a seemingly stellar replacement for Golden, and 3 really good PF type recruits with us in the final 5. I don't even blame him for this year so much - but again, he is showing a lack of vision and leadership by not addressing what is going on. I am pro program, I think this board has more of a problem with those that are only "pro coach".

I don't think "pro coach" posters get their posts deleted.

The organization should be much more transparent than they are. There is ton to talk about, especially what is going on behind the scenes to get more games or games rescheduled. That, on top of player mindset, overall frustrations, and the mental toll that this season is taking on the team.

It is obvious that this season is not "normal" and a sign of the times, but the silence from the Moon-man is inexcusable.

the "pro coach" vs "pro program" stuff is BS. most here seem to believe the best thing for the program is to move on from CM. but 4700 can have an opinion too. the "my way or you're wrong and not a fan" stuff is ridiculous.

you may feel the best way to support the program is to force change when you see it's necessary. 4700 may feel the best way to support the program is to fully support the coach and team. you should both be able to support in your own way. instead we get multiple posters jumping in to insult and shout him down every day.
