Spiders paused through February 12 - GMU, Dayton, GW, and VCU games postponed

Yep. I'm not going to go full on saying he was lying but he certainly was being generous with the truth. What gets me about Mooney is that literally ANY time something is wrong in the program, he just disappears, doesn't give media interviews, unless it is a carefully scripted (no question and answer) release.

When things are great (like after the Kentucky win), Mooney is all over talking to everyone. Again this comes back to character and leadership. Being a leader is easy when things are going well, but your really good leaders show their mettle when times are tough. Mooney hides/disappears during tough times, it is who he is.

Contrast this to Tony Bennett and how he deals with adversity and you will see how a great college coach handles adversity vs. how Mooney handles it.
This is a super point, I have watched coaches at other programs I follow - and like Bennett they take responsibility and speak to the disappointment and what needs to improve or change. Mooney hides are regurgitates the same lines. Or when one time JOC asks a tough question reacts like a baby. I get this year sucks for the players with Covid and the injuries have hurt us. Just a screwed up year in college hoops, but the bigger malaise for longterm with Richmond basketball is Mooney. I think we will have some pretty decent talent next year, especially if we can just land one big man transfer or Cayo or Golden return - but not going to be super optimistic for anything more than a Mooney 2-3 year rebuild.

I will be very interested to see what happens with high school basketball in CT this season. Games are starting next week. Not one shutdown through a couple weeks of practice that I know of. OF COURSE , the big difference is that no testing is occuring that I know of. Guessing not much interference will come of it.

The governing board for h.s sports OK winter season - they claimed that only 5 or 6 cases could be traced to practice or games in the completed fall season in the entire state. Again, don't know that even one test was administered, other than if an athlete got sick and went and got the test.

Trap, why shouldn't they disclose who has covid? Seems like I know and hear of many players and coaches on everyone else's teams who test positive; as well as all pro players, public officials, celebrities, politicians, etc etc...

I am sick and tired of MY SCHOOL being always cloaked in secrecy! SICK OF IT!!!

Concerning VCU, I think that its possible to respect a coach or a player, and still hate the shit out of the program.
Rick, pretty sure HIPAA would prohibit disclosing which players have it without their permission to do so. That said, there is absolutely no reason they can't come out say what is going on without naming names. They could say we have had 2 positive tests in our programs, we contract traced them, tell us what they are doing to get back on the court, possibly adapt their obviously substandard protocols so we don't get shut down a 4th time.

It is just so weak and pathetic how we deal with anything PR related when we have to deal with something unfavorably. I'm sure no one likes the situation we are in, I'm sure some folks are embarrassed as all hell for what went down with SLU, but you know what, you man up, own your mistake and tell us how you are moving forward.

That is what is demanded of being a leader. I mean we have a whole damn leadership school, you'd think we could practice what we teach.

The Chief Medical Advisor to the President and Director of the National Institute Of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is fame seeking for, checks notes, doing the job that he’s paid to do.

But I guess we’re supposed to trust some random poster who watched one episode of Tucker Carlson more than someone who has spent their life studying infectious diseases. Lol
Yes he is fame seeking. They have all watched too many pandemic/disaster movies. Epidemiology is a new field (I wouldnt call it a science), and they are using us and this pandemic as the experiment. They have no clue what works or doesnt. All past attempts to mass quarantine were total failures (Toronto/Sars) and the industry then said they should never try it again yet here we are. And I dont watch any news... who is Tucker Carlson.

There is no scientist who has been 100% right on everything in his or her career. The definition of a scientist literally is "a person who conducts scientific research to advance knowledge in an area of interest." If scientists knew everything, they wouldn't need to conduct any research.

Scientists know more about science than the rest of us who are not scientists. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2094974/

Also, I have no respect for VCU at all.
Yea and the entire population and this pandemic are their research project. F this... I opt out as a participant. Look up the last time the epidemiology community tried mass quarantines... they deemed it an utter failure and recommended not to try it again (toronto/sars). I guess Fauci thought there was a need for more research on the subject.
But whatever. As long as the sheep want to be led the res ofus are screwed

As chairman and senior ranking member of the VCU haters subcommittee on the spidernation....Simply put mentioning respect and VCU ought to never be put in the same sentence on these boards and never should be rationalized. I have a friend that was a key player on VCUs final four team and I hate him (basketball speaking). Let him know every time how much I hate VCU and he wishes we had more fans like that to tell him to go F himself.

My dying words from the MCV hospital as I gasp for oxygen will be to tell all their bandwagon fans I’ll see them in hell.

“Epidemiology is the study and analysis of the distribution (who, when, and where), patterns and determinants of health and disease conditions in defined populations.”

“The Greek physician Hippocrates, known as the father of medicine,[5][6] sought a logic to sickness; he is the first person known to have examined the relationships between the occurrence of disease and environmental influences.”

Those ancient Greeks are known for their new fields...

Its a complete joke how teams are on pause, entire high school sports seasons go off without one team pause, and now tonight Kevin Durant was on pause for the first quarter, and then cleared. Very inconsistent application with the college game getting impacted the very very most.

Complete joke, yes. But also makes sense because everyone is using different standards to determine a pause.

It would be nice if there was an agreed upon, science based, accurate metric that could be used to determine the need for a pause/quarantine/isolation. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there isn’t one.

Which Dr. Fauci should we listen to and trust? Is it the one who said in January that asymptomatic transmission has never been the driver of outbreaks? Or the Fauci who said in February said that the public should not be frightened by the virus? Or is it the Fauci who said in March that there was no reason to wear a mask? Maybe we should trust the Fauci who said on March 8 that lockdowns were draconian? Or, do we believe the Fauci who said on March 15 that he was open to a shutdown, and subsequently advocated insistently for them? Maybe we follow advice from the Fauci who by April was encouraging the use of masks? Or should we go with the Fauci who by August was saying that asymptomatic transmission IS a driving factor in the community spread of Covid? Perhaps we would be wise to put our faith in the Fauci who said that we would be lucky to get a vaccine that was 70-75% effective. Or, how about the Fauci who recently advocated for the use of double and triple masking, is he the right one to believe? Or would it be the Fauci who in the last few days strongly insinuated that society may never be able to stop wearing masks?

My guess is that if we didn't listen to what Fauci says during an interview, we would have more faith in the good Doctor :)

Who’s done a really great job right? No masks, then masks! Now multiple masks. Yeah, he sounds like he knows what he’s doing. These things are meant to cull the planet. nature at its finest

But ply thinks he’s an expert? Great post by the way. Theses fools in science have no damn clue. It’s just the planet doing what the planet does, culling the herd

No I don’t think I’m an expert. I’m saying I trust the highest ranking expert in our country over somebody on a basketball forum. It’s quite simple.

Have we slipped back into an off topic thread? It appears that scientists are to blame for the spread of covid, we have a well articulated sports PR strategy, and VCU is well liked by most spider fans. Perhaps that’s enough on that...

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain (and I mean ONLY half) that scientists and the media have been engaged in one of mankind's most genius schemes of all time, to lock down the people of the world for a year (and by that I mean allowing them generally to go about their daily business for nine months as long as they wear masks) in order to pit them against each other and those other great schleppers of the world, good-for-nothing teachers, all for the sole purpose of screwing with the college basketball season in such a way that VCU ends up winning the A10 championship on our home court. Not sure why I didn't realize this much earlier.

My theory is that Golden, Gilyard, Grace, Gustavson and what the heck, Gaitley (side note: has there ever been a basketball team with more G names?) used the same barber as the KC Chiefs in an attempt to get the Patrick Price on their car insurance.

97, will the 76ers refuse to play Brooklyn tonight, a la SLU? Durant not playing because a close contact tested positive, yet Durant exposed entire Brooklyn and Toronto team?

no because they’re each getting paid more for that one game than all of SLU’s players do in 4 years.

This comparison wouldn’t have worked with VCU though, especially during the Will Wade era

Will Wade just would have paid people to keep quiet. They never would have missed a game. Yes, I earlier said I respect Rhoades. No, I don't respect the slime ball Wade at all. He is garbage.

Agree with "It’s just the planet doing what the planet does, culling the herd."
As a society we have become so soft that "our reaction" to the problem is quite different than what it would have been in the past.

Not sure why, but the Feb 17 VCU game that's still on (for now) has been moved from the RC to Costco.

I don't think he has posted anything close to that, but if he does he is entitled to his opinion.

Just heard there will be no radio show again tonight. It will be resuming next weekend with Mooney and special guest John Hardt. What a joke. I guess the dictatorship has to come out and spin this whole situation as something other than what it is.
