Replacement

Why does everyone think TJ will transfer? I have seen nothing from him that indicates he wants to transfer. Our system is basically perfect for him.

We didn't hear anything from Ododa about transferring, either.

How many of those guys graduated with a year of eligibility left?

None of those guys were potential grad transfers (except TD). 10 of those guys played in an NCAA Tournament. Not getting your point

Good point. Is TJ finished with his degree? He could potentially be a grad transfer and wouldn't have to sit out a year which would make transferring more likely. Unlike ANO there is no indication TJ's playing time is going to go down anytime soon.

I don't think playing time will decide if TJ leaves or not. TJ is really outspoken about playing in the NCAA tournament. He could easily go to a P5 school and get quality minutes while going the the NCAAs

Funny thing is the color guy on the broadcast said TA was still a 1st team All A-10. I didn't see it during A-10 play. TJ, maybe, but not TA. TA maybe 3rd team.

If Mooney can't be fired after this, he will get a free pass the rest of his contract. He will be playing freshmen and sophomores for the next two years and the administration will not expect him to win but so many. We will be building for the future again and again and again and again and again. It just makes me want to throw up.

Love the optimism, but defense is what wins championships. I just don't see us being any better on D
Well, we don't have to win the conference championship. We just have to finish in the top 4 of a very weak league. As far as defense goes, honestly how could we be worse. It's almost impossible to have a worse defense than we had this year. Teach our kids to guard the 3 pt line and make free throws. We lose two 45% free throw shooters.

Mooney would be a great fit to coach the Harlem Globetrotters, they don't play defense and they never lose.

Do you think Alonzo is laughing at UR now from his view in Pitt? Lunardi has them in the tourney. Think they can still play themselves out - but its looking like they will make it, meanwhile UR is lucky to get back to the CBI.

Not that Alonzo is playing huge minutes, but he has played in all but one game getting about 8-10 minutes a night. BUT - it looks like he will make the tourney.

Didn't Nancy play for the Generals?
No, Nancy played for the trotters, Cline played for the generals.

If you didn't catch that, maybe you should listen to the Spurs lay up line story again.

Pitt lost to lowly Ga Tech tonight.

Actually, both Nancy and Tim played for the Generals...that's where they met.

This website gives an idea on who might end up leaving in a P5 conference, and who might replace them. Seems like Schmidt at Bona is getting some love. Why not Wade?

Here are the coaches from that article that are within the realm of possibility for us:

Code:
Coach (School) Record Win %
Chris Beard (Arkansas-Little Rock) 27- 4 87.1%
Brad Underwood (Stephen F. Austin) 85-13 86.0%
Bryce Drew (Valparaiso) 120-47 71.9%
Tim Cluess (Iona) 138-64 68.3%
Jerod Haase (UAB) 80-51 61.1%
LeVelle Moton (NC Central) 126-93 57.5%
Steve Masiello (Manhattan) 92-70 56.8%
Russell Turner (UC-Irvine) 112-88 56.0%
Steve Pikiell (Stony Brook) 190-155 55.1%

And these are the guys who are likely to be picked up by P5 schools. We might need to dig a little deeper for a new coach, if we were to be in the market.

You are completely undervaluing the appeal of our job. I like Cluess and Underwood, but in general we would have a lot of candidates with better resumes that most of these guys. I mean Paulsen left a great gig at Bucknell, where he did a lot of winning, for MASON. He was a better, more proven coach than everyone on this list and he took one of the worst jobs in the league.

I included everyone from the article who wasn't already in the A10 or in a P5 job. According to the article these are the best guys in the country who aren't already in the A10 or the P5.

Love your reliance on stats but would never base a decision on stats alone.

I am not advocating to hire the coach with the best win %, just trying to give some perspective/context to the names.

I don't think we would limit ourselves to a handful of "the best" head coaches from small leagues. There are former head coaches now working as assistants at P5 programs, up-and-coming lead assistants at P5 programs who have never been head coaches and others who certainly would be interested in this job.

You are probably right, just pulling some names out of the article for those who didn't want to read it.

I look at what UNCW did two years ago, hiring Kevin Keatts, who was associate head coach for Pitino at Louisville. He has made them into a juggernaut in two years. And we are a much more attractive job than UNCW in several key ways – much better funding, better league, better facilities, etc. We could easily get a top assistant from almost any program in the nation, if that's the direction we wanted to go.

Chris Caputo, a top Larranaga assistant for years, has always been viewed as a strong young coach-in-waiting. He's the kind of guy I would like to see us go after if we can't find a current head coach we like.

Know you don't value rebounding as much as I do so my question is how many teams have won the championship with a worse rebounding % than us? Or for that matter, has any team won the championship while losing the rebound battle?

I value rebounding, but I think there are other more important aspects on defense. In 2011 the A10 champion had a worse rebounding percentage then our current team. Last year Duke was 125th in the country in defensive rebounding, so they were pretty middle of the pack but not awful. The year before that, UConn rebounded on 67.8% of their opponent's misses. This year we actually rebound on 68.3% of our opponents misses. So yes, a team has rebounded worse on defense than us and won the national championship.
