Official Competing in the Home of Bud Thread

It’s always funny to read this board after we win a game because it’s as if everyone forgets about this past season, last season, and the fact we haven’t made the ncaa’s for 8 years, and says “well looks like this’ll be enough for Mooney to say another year”. No it’s not. We are still on pace to finish with another losing record and are still fighting to not be a bottom 4 A10 team in one of its weakest years. We weren’t going to go winless the rest of our games in the A10. In fact, we’ll likely finish around 6-8 wins.

I don’t want to be a Debbie downer and point this out, but I want to be mindful of the reality of our situation. If Hardt is easily swayed by the emotion of one game or going on a mini win streak at the end the season as reason to keep Mooney, while disregarding the past 8 years he’s had here (especially our record the past 2 years) we are in trouble.

With that said, I am incredibly happy for the team yesterday. They gutted out a big time win at St. Louis. That is a lot to be proud of and I hope they have a newfound confidence to keep the momentum going forward. There is nothing I would love more than for us to win out the rest of the season and win the A10 tournament.

If the AD knows anything about basketball then this 1-game will not keep him from recommending Mooney's firing.

The effort, scrap, and shooting % were vastly better last night, BUT, the issues you referenced AND the collapse that nearly gave away the 10-12 point lead away in the last 2-minutes are classic Mooney.

A smart and reasonable AD will examine the body of work, not 1-game whether it be a good one or a bad one.

I really hate to be a downer on here but we really don't need this win for the long term health of this program. A win in a game like this and more to follow only ensures that Mooney is more likely to stay. Not what we need.
If your "source" is for real, this is nothing to worry about.

Shooting 57 percent from the floor and shooting 97 percent at the line is the only reason we won.

Last night's shooting performance (57% FG and 97% FT) is a real outlier, and would be extremely unlikely to recur. When was the last time any CM team has shot THAT well?

sounds like a cue for 2011...

Looked a little and found this
% ranks 2pt/3pt

2017-12/208
2018-56/250
2019-8/250

Looking to see what changed recently...
On offense, we don’t allow many TOS overall but the number of steals we have allowed as gone up 2017-2019

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????? No one on here has said anything remotely like, "well, forget all the discontent--we're good now."

My home will be repossessed soon following the results of last night's game. Anyone have a place for me to stay for a few months?
So you did bet the ranch! The play room is available, though you'll have to watch musicals with my daughter and play video games with my other one. Hope you're not allergic to cats or dogs. Oh, and you'd be staying with a so called "truther" (whatever the heck that is). I'm thinking that's the deal breaker!

Hardt has already gone on the record saying he's going to look at the whole body of work. So no worries, he's not going to sign an extension based upon this one win.

A game like this was bound to happen. Sometimes good teams have off nights and sometimes bad teams get hot. We were the latter yesterday. I didn't think it would be on the road against a tough defensive athletic team like St. Louis. But as Keef, said these type of offensive statistics are an anomaly for us. We are not a good shooting team (especially from 3) and are a subpar free throw shooting team.

Our 3 best players all were "on" last night and we had a great offensive night.

We should have done much better with the press. Golden made an ill advised pass while double teamed; Jake W could have dribbled up the sideline and instead stopped and tried to pass in a congested area; Cayo tried to throw a bullet to a cutting Gilyard who was forced out of bounds and could not get it to Golden. It was a comedy of errors. I do believe on the last inbounds play, Cayo was told to throw it pass midcourt so someone could touch it and kill the 1.2 seconds. Trouble was he did not throw it deep enough. But the last 2 minutes was an exercise in futility.

You and broc are running a "tight race" for posts that make me laugh - only advice I have about the outcome of who wins that race is "don't bet on it"...................

We've won once as an underdog (+1 at GW). We've lost outright as a favorite 6 times. 3 times as double digit favorites.

This is an extremely telling post by CB. At my site the GW game closed as a PK, but okay give them 1 small underdog win and St Louis makes 2. Though that 6 I have as 7 where I go. This shows everyone that a team that was supposed to win lost 7 times while when that team was supposed to lose won 2 times. Coaches get fired for accomplishing that too often.

I am curious which one of your losses as a favorite is not on my list. I have:
Longwood (-16.5)
Wyoming (-5.5)
Hampton (-10)
Oral Roberts (-11)
Duquesne (-2.5)
St. Bonaventure (-2)

My bad. Glad you asked! I always tried to double check but occasionally I make mistakes. Sincere apologies to Coach Mooney.

SLU had 20 more shots than UR. We had to shoot lights out with the other stats where they were. If we
shoot 45% FGs and normal 60% FTs then we lose by 15-20 Pts.
Good thing...So what you're saying is that you guys were the better team last night. Stuff happens. Just don't do it at the Stu.

I just happened to hear the radio advertisement for UR's game his Saturday and I don't think it could get much worse. $1 popcorn Spider basketball vs la salle and bring your grandparents. More like $1 sh**ty popcorn, two terrible teams going at it and bring on out the old codgers! Our marketing team needs some serious improvement.

BSH. Apply for the job. And hire some some classmates. We need a fresh approach big time.
