Official Competing in the Home of Bud Thread

Great effort by the kids and quality FT shooting got the job done. That said the way they almost gave it away only adds to needing another coach guiding them. And Nathan19, I agree and Mooney called a TO for that play? :D Cayo didn't look aware he was suppose to inbound the ball.

my guess is throw if long but make sure someone touched the ball -- only way we lose at that point almost had to be we throw the ball out of bounds without being touched, or a foul on us going for the ball

This better not be the game that saves Mooney's job. We played a pretty good game offensively and near perfect from the line. The end was all Mooney, which was a near choke job. Instead, SLU choked. Kids won in spite of Mooney.

Glad for the players. Coach just takes all the kids intensity and aggressiveness in final 5 mins of the game with any kind of lead. It’s cost us dearly in the past and it damn near did again tonight.

Good win for the boys. Hard to believe we scored 84 on what is usually a good defensive team

Mooney is whistling to the bank with another $100,000.00 check for February

If Hardt keeps Mooney because we won by the skin of our teeth against a St. Louis team that had every chance to win this game after we nearly blew a 12 point lead in 2 minutes, we are in trouble. I hope Hardt does what he says. Lets the season play out, see what record we have, who we lost/beat, how we lost/won our games, consider Mooney's entire track record here, and the trajectory of this team going forward. As of right now, Mooney still should definitely be fired at the end of the season in my mind. If we finish the season winning 8 of 10 games and win the A10 tournament, then I'll change my mind.

I'm holding out for Elite Eight finish for a mind change........................but know the reality is what I think does not matter.....................

Glad my 1 conference win prediction bit the dust!

I did not get to see the game, how did JJ get injured? How bad did it look? Coach said it may be an Achilles.

Could not tell - he went off the court putting no weight on the hurt foot propped up by people on each side............in obvious pain while on the floor - holding ankle/ foot and rolling side to side......................

Was injured while backing up and getting foot tangled up with top of SLU player's foot....and then went down..................

Looked like JJ got tangled up with another StL player, then hit the deck. Couldn't really tell from tv angle

Now that you say, he looked in way too much pain for a sprained ankle and couldn't even put any weight on it when helped off the court. Too sad if so to end his career like that. Cross your fingers Fan1!

I know this is a big win for the kids but it really isn't good for the program long term. We have seen this movie before with Mooney, team struggles for a while then gets a big win and that is enough to justify Mooney staying. Unfortunately this win I don't think helps us. If we keep winning all that does is give Hardt a reason to keep Mooney and see what happens with Blake Francis and Sherod coming back. We all know that if that is the case that we will just be let down by this team again next year and the cycle starts all over again.
You're wrong, and you keep repeating yourself.
Sorry about your $110.

Great win for the kids. Possibly bad win for the future IF you are wanting Mooney gone. This by no means save Mooney's job, but does this give the kids some much needed confidence, and next you thing you know - they win 3-4 games in a row. I think all they need is a streak like that and then winning a game here and there and next thing you know - we are back to the normal - middle of pack A10, with the tag line being "future is bright".

shooting 57 percent from the floor and shooting 97 percent at the line is the only reason we won. got destroyed on rebounds, points of turnovers, bench points.

If Coach Mooney is still here at the end of second semester, and Sal decides to transfer, I'm certain he will be "shocked... dismayed... disappointed," etc.

But if I were Sal, and I saw people in front of me NOT setting the world on fire, and I am only getting two minutes a game, a transfer would at least cross my mind.

I think Sal is talented, has good mechanics, and is a smart individual and basketball player. I don't want to lose him from our program. Good grief - give the man some minutes!

Did you expect us to go to St. Louis and win by 30? Because if we would have won the rebound battle, turnover battle, and had more bench points in addition to the good shooting night, that is about what would have happened. How often do you expect us to win the rebound battle and have more bench points anyway? We need to shoot well to win, and we did tonight.

You are not going to win every individual stat. I would rather win the shooting battle. The other stats seem less important when you score 84 points.

I think he was trying to point out that it took a really special shooting night from us to win, because we lost in every other category. You can’t expect us to shoot this well every night. We might not shoot this well again all season.

No, I didn’t expect us to go to St. Louis and win by 30. And no, I didn’t expect us to win the rebound battle.

However, watching the game, the “usual” issues and a couple new ones reared their head. Struggled against a zone defense, multiple times gave up 3-4 consecutive rebounds while St. Louis was playing volleyball with the back board, and then we looked confused against the press, among others.

I get that given St. Louis is a great rebounding team, we’re going to lose that battle, but some sequences were just sad. Team boxing out, especially against St. Louis, should have been a priority. While the zone offense was better, it still allowed St. Louis to come back. And dealing with the press had major issues.

Happy for the win, but if we did these 3 things marginally better, we wouldn’t have had to shoot the lights out to win. Mooney’s reliance on hot shooting to win is indicative of his poor coaching.

SLU had 20 more shots than UR. We had to shoot lights out with the other stats where they were. If we
shoot 45% FGs and normal 60% FTs then we lose by 15-20 Pts.
