Neal Quinn committed to U of R

How we handle Quinn and assuming we get 1 more transfer - will also be significant in future transfers. With the portal becoming the place everyone goes now, I think it is safe to assume players will be looking for programs that have experience with transfers and where transfers get a good opportunity to play and start right away. I doubt kids are hitting the portal and thinking - sure, I will play off the bench for a year or two and wait my turn. That is likely the reason they are leaving their current situation.

So your history with transfers will likely play a role in future transfers.
Good point, and makes me wonder why some on here expect Mooney to just go get another big now for depth purposes, especially right after we signed Quinn. Like it would so easy to tell a guy who is transferring, most likely for more minutes, to be content as a backup. It's hard enough to get one good big, and people somehow think we should always have 2.

I get it, a lot of guys in the portal are there looking for PT, so yes if we are planning to play MFG 30 minute/game at the 4 spot, it could be a hard sell.

But we can't act like you can never have more than 2 decent interior players. That is a big issue with the last 10 years!!!! Look at our last trip to the NCAA's. We had two great players inside in Geriot and Harper. Behind them Garrett, Duinker, and Dwill. That is what I call quality depth - and don't start throwing numbers at me b/c obviously they can't all play at the same time. But yes, even Mooney used to be able to build quality depth in their like Tarrant did.

Yes, it may be hard to get a pretty good PF now, but Mooney should have thought about that when he was striking out on those guys on the recruiting trail the last 3-4 years.

I like Grace, but Quinn looks slower than Golden (who I don't think is slow - just avg athleticism) - so yes if they play good enough defense to keep us competitive - I can see Quinn and Grace running into some foul trouble.

I really don't think Noyes was recruited to guard 4's and Burton should not be thrown into that position either. Hopefully Walz looks more like his AAU highlights than his h.s. game tape by next winter - that would help.

And damn 97, Penn State really needs to pick up their recruiting too - running in the same circles as the Spiders may not end up being great for them. I saw one of their writers evaluating the folks they were after in the portal, and was of the opinion that Funk did not really have a +skill for their league.

Well it's not like their normal recruits show +skill for the overrated B10 anyway. Penn State is definitely not any better than a good mid major, no place for them to be making uppity ignorant comments imo. think they should be very happy getting 2 established productive guards out of CAA and Patriot League who I expect will help them. Other one was a guard out of Drexel.

Good to see he’s focused on the strength of Richmond’s academic offering as well.

Clearly he wants to play in the NBA. Let’s hope he gets his chance.
Really think our strength coach is a huge asset to the program .. loved to see him working with players as I tend to get to games quite early most of the time

I honestly have no idea about him, I just only notice him yelling at the refs - like some of our walk on's. Of course if I was that close to the action I would probably be doing the same, haha. I do know that our old sage basketball mind Fezz is not necessarily impressed.

Its got to be tough to be a strength coach under Mooney. Cause typically over his tenure, when we lose - we generally get pounded on the boards - which is really the only stat I can think of that would point to strength and toughness. That and if we ever had a bad stretch of injuries all similar in the same season. Other than that - the strenght coach gets a lot of credit when we win. And probably tries to disappear when we lose.

I agree with you that rebounding might be the only measurable stats pertaining to strength but CM understands that strength applies to almost every facet of basketball so I think it'd be easy, not hard, to be a strength coach as long as you chart improvement
