I love the name Butter; he’s gotta be tough like a “ Boy named Sue”. LOL

Maybe Derey is not a walk-on? Not sure why we haven't publicized it, unless the paperwork isn't done yet.

He had offers from ODU, Furman, and VMI, but fell in love with UR and we came through with an offer in late January.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound tight end initially wanted to end up at UVa to follow in the footsteps of his father, Walt Derey, a Northside alumnus who played the same position alongside Ronde Barber, but throughout his recruitment and following a visit to Richmond, that changed.

The offer did eventually come, extended to Derey in late January. He announced his commitment to the University of Richmond on Tuesday.

“It’s a big deal. I’m really excited. It’s a big relief. I don’t have to worry about the uncertainty of where I’m going anymore, so it’s definitely a lot less stressful,” he said. “I liked all the other schools, but Richmond was my No. 1. I just thought it was a great fit for me, but it was a very long process.”

“I feel like, just watching their tight ends play and how they have it set up over there, I think I fit in with my style of play. With everything, I think it all just lines up,” Derey said. “I got invited on a visit to Richmond and I just instantly fell in love with the place, all the coaches. It’s a great place, it’s not as big of a school as most places. I think I fit in there, and it just checked all the boxes.”

understand they are only added after admissions gives admission.
Both February HS signees are not included on the roster as of yet.

  1. Gabriel Heard-Hernandez - 1/21/25 - T, NG - Butler HS, Matthews, NC - 6'3"/295 ✅ SIGNED 2/5/25
  2. Justin Rice - 2/5/25 - WR - Spartanburg HS, Spartanburg, SC - 6'0"/190 ✅ SIGNED 2/5/25

Had the pleasure to sit with Jack's father at spring game. Dad said Jack played very similar offence in HS. He really liked coaching staff. Met Jack after game, seemed to be nice young man, solid, looks able to take a hit. Dad had played tennis at Michigan State, said they were looking for small school, good academics and athletics. They introduced me to a life-long family friend, a young lady and a current Freshman.

Like the looks of this young man. Should be a battle between he and Callaghan when the time comes.

Circling back here, Fan1. Did you sit in the upper rows of the blue seats? Was the young lady slender? (when younger would have said skinny, but I'm progressing with age). Did the young lady sit between you and Jack's Dad?

Glanced over my shoulder once, but couldn't pick the individual out of a line up now which, if you, suggests you have an unremarkable face. ;)

Sounds like us, if you see me again, or think you do, come and introduce yourself. BTW, most would have looked skinny between the two of us,
