Mooney and Schaeffer started the same year, and although they started because both prior coaches went elsewhere, there is precedent of hiring 2 coaches in the same year. I think this version of the AD can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Fire Shafer and demote Mooney to women’s coach.

Shafer is exempt from on-court achievement goals. He is only being paid to babysit players and make sure they graduate on time, nothing more. He was appointed coach much the same way a Supreme Court Justice is seated, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
One thing Shafver has going for him is that the next 2 opponents have RPIs as bad as UR. They're only 5 & 6 spots above Richmond at 283. If he loses the next 2 games by double digits, he should be left in Philadelphia on Saturday and make him find his own way back home.
