i would love to believe this spring season will happen but still don't think i do. i saw Montana and a few others in the Big Sky pulled the plug on it recently. i guess it would be difficult to prepare for a football season in Montana in February.

I really just don’t like the idea of a spring season and just hope we decide to not participate. I don’t like the spring season for several reasons: #1 the way it’s set up, we get jmu, Elon and the Indians 2 times each. Best case scenario we win 3 out of those so that means we aren’t going to the playoffs.#2 the risk of injuries. Guys will get hurt because it’s football and they will get hurt worse and more often than they do in a regular spring practice period. That has the potential to set back the team for the fall and possibly beyond. #3 in general the timing of the spring season sets everything else back. There is likely a lot less summer strength and conducting which is absolutely vital to the program moving forward. Also I’m not even sure if the financial ramifications of playing in the spring and if they are good or bad. Haven’t really read into any of that but would be interested to find out.

The upside of the spring season is for the players. Tough to imagine the challenge of practicing for 2 straight years without competition.

There's not much to gain for any other stakeholders - no money, no exposure, no fans in attendance.

That said, if the players want to play ... I get it.

If have to agree with your statement. I’m always gonna be for the players first. If they want to play then play. Leave it up to them to decide.

We should have played this fall. I think the football season this fall was a success given the circumstances. But since we didn't play, I would rather bag it and get ready for the fall. That said, Mo makes a great point in his post about the players.

Why are we playing in the spring if it’s not for the players? It’s bound to be a money losing endeavor.
I’m not sure Huesman is in favor of it.
I would like the AD to explain why we’re doing this.

I hope that one of the major reasons our guys play football is that they are competitors...most competitive people would want to play...if the team wants to play I'm all for it...

I also believe it's good for the program...after three disappointing seasons (2017-2019) it needs to have some idea where it stands going into the 2021 fall season...we saw some progress mid season 2019 before closing out badly...with 15 months to get ready a spring season would be a measuring stick...

as for the fans I think we need it too...when the Governor of Ohio allowed a variance for 12K fans to attend a Browns game he said something like he was doing it for the "good of the people"...if the games are able to be played my hope is the State of VA, City of Richmond and UR administration would allow an appropriate number of fans above the 250 limit to attend the games...I believe it could be done safely...

You are taking a very positive position and certainly can’t fault you for that. Probably no one on this board is a bigger Spider Football fan than you.
But, let me play the devil’s advocate. Suppose we go out there and get smashed both game with JMU, and do poorly in the other games too. What do we do about it?

Why would deferring play to the fall avoid having the same potential outcome? How would 6 months more training without games benefit UR more than JMU?

My take is this spring season is going to be a whole lot like the NFL preseason games. The results likely aren’t as important as players developing and staying healthy. And I’m sure that I’ll get overly invested in the outcome and forget that during the season. But it’ll be great since it’s football.

with our smaller roster size we need to be careful or we’ll be really shorthanded in the Fall. No way to really prevent that in games but the risk is a little higher for us than other programs simply based on roster quantities. And we haven’t seemed to do especially well w injuries the last few years. Hopefully that trend is ending if spring season occurs. I’m still skeptical it will go on too.

If we get smashed in the spring season after 15 months to prepare, then we know that something in the 4th season and 5th year of the Huesman era just isn't working...

it seems pretty likely that we would expect more of what we see in the spring during the conventional 2021 season...as another poster suggests what's going to change with six more months?

had COVID-19 not intervened I expect the 2020 season would have served as a measuring stick for Coach Huesman's program...

I hope we can regain the competitiveness we achieved in mid-October 2019 and sustain it...spring football should give us a preview...

Go Spiders!

The offense actually returns 10 starters from last year. Isaac Brown and Ryan Coll were starters too.

Ryan was listed as #1 TE in 2019.Fitzgerald transfer Cornell will now be the TE starter. We will likely go to multiple 2 TE sets as needed.Ryan has now permanently moved to OL.
Agree on Issac Brown but with now with Leroy Henley, transfer from ECU,that could all change.
