Drink the kool-aid

So...just like we did with the NC State and Utah State games. We'll obviously tout our Bahamas MTE once it's official.

The frosh they hyped was a late guy they just signed. We of course announced when we signed our guys...it was just eight months ago rather than one month ago.

At least they're not promoting "way too early" predictions...oh wait.

I have plenty of things to criticize the program and athletic PR folks about, as I've made clear a number of times. This ain't one of them.

I'm with Trap in the sense that this is a stupid and meaningless thing that's literally based on nothing real. I'm fine with our people retweeting it, but writing about it like it's anything is dumb.

Remember, they've had VCU ranked 6th or below in some of these preseason polls over the years, and they were in the top 3 each time. In other words, these polls are absolute garbage.

It is becoming late summer, so it is time to throw anything out there to stay on the radar. Got my season ticket renewal notice and noticed that there is no t-shirt this year. Guess that will make some on the board happy, since T-shirt quality was discussed in the past. Have to think the promotion company is feeling rather bummed though. I am sure they would be hoping for a more normal year too.

Include the parking pass and ditch the T-shirt

Wow, Bona a 6, Spiders an 11, SLU a First Four 11, and both VCU and Dayton in first four out.

As for our schedule, he's got Maryland a 5, Mississippi St. a 10, and Lousiville a First Four 12.

In his latest update, Lunardi has the Spiders at a 10-seed as one of the last four byes, facing UConn.

Bona as a 5, Maryland as a 6, Louisville as a 7, Georgia State as an auto bid 15. Mississippi St. is his second one out.

Good random find sman. Started off by saying we were in NIT final 4 last year. Find it odd when something like that is not corrected and Mooney didn't correct it but I'll give him a pass maybe Mooney was jarred by the interviewer's accent like I was. But I dug it all the same.

mainly stuff we know but that's normal and good to get a little pub regardless. Mooney did talk about lack of rim protector! But hopefully the team defensive attention Mooney brought up there will help some.

I recommend dropping the Covid excuses. We heard regularly preseason how the expected disruptive nature of season would be an advantage for our veteran team. Then it somehow became the opposite. Many if not all teams dealt with this. Plus some it was our doing - see St. Louis fiasco.

yeah I thought the rim protector mention was interesting. I'm hoping Walz brings some of that.

Watching SDSU football, solid team for 5 years but play Mooney not to lose. Hate Mooney and coaches like him. Effing win, have some balls dude.

Spiders football and sdsu football lost causes. Love how Moliva, Spiderman rubbed it in when SDSU lost to cuse in a predictable to me outcome, but no one cares that Mooney has sucked for 10 years while sdsu goes to ncaa after ncaa. I am going to start loving to lose.

Have a new team to root for that is signing top 25 after top 25 big men.

lol, I reposted a funny tweet about SDSU's shooting woes against Syracuse. didn't think it would scar you so deeply. sorry I don't find the need to support your SDSU love affair ... on a Richmond board.

I have another school I like too. I just don't post about him hear. because I assume nobody cares.

Yes, I do think had a few too many Kool Aids Saturday night. I am more scarred by the apathy and Mooney than any posters on here. SDSU four NCAA's in a row. Spiders still my number one team, but its nice to have a coach that emphasizes getting to the NCAA's. They just picked up a game at Michigan. 60 something year old Dutcher hustles more than Mooney. He heard about someone backing out at Michigan possibly, called Juwan Howard (yes I realize he coached him) immediately to start the wheels turning. Just brings a whole different mindset from Mooney. No back down and instills this in his teams.

I will say this about Walz, he likes to block shots. Big guy with solid athleticism. But yes, interior defensive presence has been an issue for awhile.
Not sure I agree with the athleticism comment. I have seen him play a few times (but not since last season). I don't think he has anything special athleticism wise (think Grant or Geriot post surgery). He has size and I think may develop into a skilled guy, but he will need to do TJ like work on his game. I don't think he will ever be an above average A-10 athlete.

not saying he looks like a gazelle or anything, but 5 seconds into this highlight ... Grant and Dan couldn't do that. and by all accounts, his game hit a higher level this past summer.

not sure why that video starts at 1:38. nice bock though. I was talking about the 0:05 dunk.

Well I will concede Grant and Dan couldn't dunk it like that highlight (maybe ever and certainly not in high school!) and I haven't seen him in over a year, but he is going to be challenged defensively for sure. I live very close to his high school and actually have had a few girls from that school on my AAU team so I saw him some - - - he is a bit of a man amongst boys on most nights and he does a good job using his size advantages, but lateral quickness especially at our level is going to be a challenge, but hopefully I have old news and he's worked hard and will be more ready athletically than I expect. I will get to see him this HS season for sure and will be happy to change my thinking! And remember, I said Michael Bridges wouldn't be much at Villanova, so we have that going for us!

Grant can dunk it like that. I don’t recall Grant’s hs tape but he’s thrown it down w authority in college. We just rarely see it.

In hs it can look easier bc u have less resistance around. Not being challenged w much regularity by size or athletes. My guess is Grant did that in hs. I’ll “grant” u Geriot who was the definition of crafty did not. Walz may be better athletically but I’m really not seeing much difference to Grant.

who knows with dropping weight we hopefully see a few more highlight reels from Grant.

think I've only seen Grant dunk in transition. I agree a one handed catch/dunk on an inbounds play in HS shouldn't happen in college. but I'm glad this kid can do it anyway.

my concern here is more with his shooting form than athleticism. I don't think he's a perimeter shooter despite the makes in a highlight reel. but that's ok.

It's attitude. One game last year (I can't remember who we played), they showed one opponent talking smack to Golden. Next two minutes Grant threw down two dunks with authority and stared the guy down. Now play like that all the time big guy!
