yep went very quickly from his 9 seed to next four out. can't mess around and lose games u shouldn't like USU. Gotta get Drake to help make up for it.
Behind a team that got waxed at home by Navy and blown out on the road by Houston. Yeesh.

Yeah that's why his claim the brackets are based on what the committee would do today is so dubious. That's not even applicable so early in year. He's obviously doing some forecasting which is fine, any early season brackets have to be prediction based. And he seems to lost a lot of confidence in the Spiders already.

Is the Atlantic 10 a one-bid league?

What's going on?
The Atlantic 10 has received two or more bids to every NCAA tournament since 2005, but is already at risk of ending that streak. Only three of its 14 teams remain undefeated. Richmond, No. 2 in the preseason, lost by 11 to Utah State. Saint Louis, No. 3 in the preseason, is 3-1 but lost Player of the Year candidate Javonte Perkins for the season to injury, and also got blown out by Memphis.
The next three teams in the preseason poll -- VCU, Dayton and Davidson -- suffered losses to Wagner, UMass Lowell and San Francisco. Even St. Bonaventure, a preseason top-25 group that should be the clear-cut best team in the league, needed a late 17-1 run to overcome a double-digit second-half deficit against Canisius on Sunday. It's far from an ideal start for the league.

Will it last? There are still chances for Atlantic 10 teams to build résumés before conference play begins -- and Wednesday night was a huge step in the right direction. George Mason had the marquee win of the night, winning on the road at No. 20 Maryland, and Rhode Island knocked off Boston College and VCU took down Vanderbilt. The latter two victories won't move the needle in a major way, but getting wins over the Big Ten, ACC and SEC in the same night is a boost. In particular, George Mason's start is worth watching. The Patriots are 4-0 under new coach Kim English, with three blowout wins preceding the victory over the Terps.

Moving forward, arguably the best opportunity for a big nonconference performance (besides St. Bonaventure) might come from Richmond. The Spiders are an experienced group, and in the coming weeks, they'll head to Drake to face a likely NCAA tournament team and then will play Maryland and either Louisville or Mississippi State in the Bahamas. They also play NC State in December. Chris Mooney's team can't afford too many more nonconference slip-ups, but they'll get their swings. And, hey, if no team separates itself besides the Bonnies, there's always the conference tournament to steal a second bid.

Lunardi's now bumped us off completely. A win over Drake would sure be helpful for getting back in the conversation.

Did our check not clear this month?

Win over Drake is a must. 2-2 ain't going to cut it. It would be a very long climb from there. You can pretty much kiss realistic at large chances goodbye starting 2-2. Hard to envision us getting to 10-3 OOC when you start 2-2.

Plus add in that Drake could be a bid competitor and they'd have the head to head.

yes we need to beat Drake. but there's no conversation yet. it's 11/19. if there's a conversation on 11/19 based on Lunardi's updates, then Lunardi wins.

Key game. Would be a really good win. But, not a must win. No 4th game of the season is a must win. It's just not. If we win, does that mean we can now afford to lose to Maryland or NC State? Well, can't we lose this one and then beat Md. or NC State? It's 1 game out of 31. Let's go get it, but it does not end any at large chances if we don't.

He's already won, years ago.

But to be clear, I'm not specifically talking about exactly where we are in Bracketology. I just want the publicity that comes with generally being talked about as a bubble-or-better team all season long.

This year *could* provide us with a realistic chance to actually win the A10 tourney. Doesn't seem like we've had one of those since the only time we won it.

sure I guess u can say there is no must win game until the a10 tourney when u don’t have a bid wrapped up. Sf gets it there is a lot of value in being talked about & ppl viewing us as a ncaa team.

plus we r not going for sneaking in we r going for best seed position possible w this kind of team.

yes we could lose & still get a bid. Yes lots of games r huge when u need to get quality wins & avoid bad losses. But fact is u start 2-2 are you going to win next 8/9? Not likely.

We lost to VCU in OT in the semis in 2017, and the 2020 team had won 9 of 10 going in. But, other than those, the tourney has been a struggle since winning it.

Yeah, and I guess what I mostly meant is that there appears to be only one really good team so far (Bona), whereas most years there seem to be two or three. It's never easy to win a tournament, but if we are playing by the end of the year the way I hope we are and think we can be, the path might be cleaner than it's been in awhile.

Every game matters a ton, I don’t care if it’s the 4th game or 30th. If it’s winnable we must go win it.

And to SFs point, we want to be as far above that bubble convo for as long as possible. We don’t do that starting 1-1, 2-2, etc.

It is sad. The oldest team in D-1 - literally. How must the “men” feel?

Have u forgotten we r the “comeback kids”?

Two comebacks from 14 points down as double digit favorites at home. One was against NCCU as a 27 point favorite. Amazing! Update Mooney’s Wikipedia.

Is it a problem for Hardt if we don’t make ncaa this year with most experienced team ever? Or does he have the 2019-20 “on the bubble we’ll never know” season to hide CM behind.

Getting a bit ahead probably but hard to see any at large chance at this point already.

Barring an epiphany from Mooney and/or the team, Spids are looking at a high seed NIT berth at best.

Elegant offense does not overcome below average rebounding and below average defense. Close program followers figured this out years ago. Mooney system is good for slightly over 50% wins and has been easily exploited by numerous opponents over the years.

Why he has been here for nearly two decades tells you all you need to know about UR's commitment to excel academically and athletically. School is a one trick pony.

Competitive is subjective….winning and losing is reality.. UR admin likes the subjective,…… pathetic

Calling Mooney’s defense and rebounding simply “below average” instead of atrocious and despicable might be the best compliment he’s received all season
