Just read about him in Vol. 3 of the Connie Mack biography series. I remember seeing ads for his realty company in Spider programs, etc., and knew he was a big booster but I had no idea he played in the majors briefly with the Philadelphia Athletics before WWII, signing right out of UR in 1940.

He also gave up two hits to Ted Williams on the final day of the 1941 season, when Williams went 6-for-9 in a doubleheader to boost his average over .400. According to the book, Williams did not see Vaughan again until 1966, at which time he recognized him immediately and asked him, "Hey, where have you been?"

He is referred to as a "matinee idol" as apparently he was a very handsome man. Doing some research, I came across his RTD obit, a life well-lived. His son attended Yale and is a prominent Richmond attorney.
