2019 Opponent Thread

In a rare Friday night A10 matchup, Dayton plays at Saint Louis. We'll see if the Billikens' physical style is the key to stoppin' Toppin.

Dayton has lost two Quad 1 OT games; that's it. All three of SLU's losses are Quad 1 as well.

That should be a great game to watch. FYI, there was an article on the ESPN website this week that said Toppin was the number one player in College hoops this year. That is impressive.

Sometime #1, often Top 4, Consensus Top 10. Getting a lot of respect...

Speaking of respect Dayton might be an 8 point favorite as a visitor to a Top 100 team...

Re: Dayton - They are likely to slip up at least once (hopefully at the Robins Center), but they should be favored in every game the rest of the season.
Imagine, 29-2 with both losses to Top 20 teams at neutral sites in OT. They might even get considered for a 1 seed if that happens, but they'd probably need to win the A10 tourney, too.

Still a long way to go, but the A10 seems to be settling into 4 tiers (I won't dare call them quads, because certain posters will argue every minute technicality).
T1: Dayton
T2: VCU, SLU, Duq, UR, URI - all between 50-62 in NET
T3: Davidson, Bonnies, UMass, GM, La Salle
T4: St. Joe's, GW, Fordham

We caught a little bit of a break with 4 of our 5 home-and-homes against tier 3 and 4 squads.

Elsewhere, Boston College and St. Francis have both fallen into Quad 4 on our team sheet.

We were assured that BC would be a probable Quad 2 game.

I don't remember anyone saying BC would be quad 2. That's top 75. Hopefully, they get some wins and get back to three. On your previous post, your tiers look pretty accurate to me. But, depending on where we finish, it might not be a break that we play most of our home and homes against bottom teams. We might have needed an extra win against the top teams. But, where we are right now, I agree with you. I like our home and homes as they are now. It's up to us to get a few wins against the top teams and beat the rest of them.

We're goin' to OT. At the very least, SLU is giving the rest of the league a blueprint.
Dayton missed 3 of 4 FTs down the stretch (including 2 front ends of 1-and-1s) which allowed SLU to tie at the buzzer.

Looked like a good pick to me. Feet set, standing tall. Dude just bounced off of him like a pinball.
It was a good pick. There was nothing to call.
I was trying to point out that he said nothing about the guy obviously fouling Crutcher (with no call) just like 32counter said, and instead focused on the pick. So, technically he's correct, just focused on the wrong thing. I need to stop posting early in the AM. :)

It's the same guy who needed the flopping rule explained to him after saying Toppin fouled out with that flop earlier in OT.

I was going to post that the Bonnies had a shot of moving up to the T2, but then I saw what VCU did to them today. Their 4-0 A10 record was all fortuitous scheduling, it appears.

Brawl in the St. Francis game during the handshake line. There was some bad blood during this game. Is this the same announcer that does football for them?

In the "you don't see that every day" category, Hampton's game at Gardner Webb was suspended at halftime due to a shot clock malfunction.
Hampton is down 8.
ODU over Charlotte by 4 at home.
St. Francis loses by 17 at home to Merrimack. No brawls reported.
Radford loses to Winthrop. At Home. So much for that narrative.

Non-opponent news of interest:
Shaka's Longhorns got smoked by WV last night. They were getting doubled up for a good part of the game. The Big 12 is merciless. Next up is a late non-conference showdown with his buddy Will Wade.
Future "consultant-recommended" hire Nathan Davis is really struggling this season. Bucknell falls to 8-12 as Colgate wins going away.

I went to the UVA game last night. Their offense is absolutely terrible. Very poor ball movement. The 7-2 center Huff took 4 of his 6 shoots from 3 point range, including one failed attempt to tie the game with 8 seconds left. Very painful to watch. It made me appreciate how smoothly our offense runs.

Good for you how appreciative you were while watching the game. Did you also take in the atmosphere of being in a place that has produced 7 NCAA appearances plus 1 NIT bid the last 8 years. I would take 1 night of pain over 8 years of it. To each his own and like I stated, good for you!

Remember when some on this board tried to argue that BC and Vandy were decent to good wins. They are 1-11 combined in each of their last 6 games. BC has moved to a quad 4 win and Vandy won't be far behind.

Yes also that they were name P5 teams and that would hold cache with the committee. It was the weirdest argument. For example who wouldn't want vcu's win over non name non P5 North Texas instead of BC or Vandy. I still believe we screwed up our OOC knowing we were expecting NCAA. Dayton will go a long long way tho, let's go take it and make our destiny. No excuses, ncaa or bust.

If you like them so much you should buy season tickets. I would much rather watch my spiders.

UNC Asheville whooping up on Radford. Doom.

Another lunardi game like Radford loses too. Saint Francis. This damn strategery of hoping mediocre low majors crush their conf. Blind person could have seen this coming. Odu loses too. S Alabama will go down. Hey Hampton won! Great job Uncle Joe. Keep cashing those checks. Our own bill cooper would call our OOC mush in mush out.

I think you're the only one on this board who was "expecting" NCAA. we lost 20 games last year. preseason I think the total wins consensus on this board ranged between 14 and 19 ... 14 being ridiculously low. maybe a few had 20.

expectations are up now but a lot depends on these next 2 games. we probably shouldn't beat Dayton but we've beaten teams we shouldn't beat before.
