we sure love scouring the waiver wire for good guys on bad teams from weak conferences.
This is true and is NOT a recipe for success at all. Dusan a perfect example last year.
And not sure how we even include on a list og "good guys" on bad teams. . . (I know nothing about him). But I am highly suspect of anyone coming from lower levels where their team did not have pretty good success. White and Beagle fell into this category as well. Absent totally dominating stats, what makes us think he can help us win at a higher level than where he wasn't able to help win? Someone has to score for bad teams - - See Dusan 2023-2024 Dartmouth- - but it doesn't mean you can be a meaningful player a level (or two) up just because you scored for a bad team in a weak conference. And what about defense? Bad teams are often bad because they can't play defense - - collectively or as individuals. Again we don't need to look back past Dusan for evidence. I'd ADD to that the height question and not act like its all great except the fact we might be small as a result!
We need to stop getting so infatuated with stats (and especially scoring stats) that come in a context that we really have no clue about.
I feel confident that virtually no one knows the first thing about this guy (certainly including me) other than the highlight reel included in the string. That represents his 10 ( or however many it was) best plays from a year and virtually all of them happened against the USC Upstates, Presbyterians, and Longwoods of the college basketball world.
I refuse to get even slightly excited about a guy like this. I might get excited if we knew (or even thought) we had good pieces in place and were searching for a guy or two with a particular skill set that could help us stay up etc. But given the state of the program, we need key players etc. If this is the best we are going to get out of the portal, its going to be another very long season. I'd honestly rather take another AP and hope and pray he's an A-10 than a guy like this. And that's knowing that AP and GW3 didn't work out!
If this all we are going to be shooting for (or all we can get), Mooney is going to be known as the Coach who stole money while running a once proud basketball program and tradition into the dirt!
And to be very clear, this is not an indictment of this kid - - - I again state I know nothing about him! This is an indictment of the program (AD and coach principally).
