Yes, this is why I think Beagle is a likely transfer candidate. He is more in the mold of the Cayo "4", but was never played there despite the lip service. If he goes, will be interesting to see what level he transfers. Unfortunately for him, this past season probably hurt his stock a bit, but who knows.

That makes sense sman. I guess this model is probably contingent on the conference too. For instance, a player that was a freshman at Iona this season. He played a good deal, and started part of year. Spoke with his dad last year and he said he was getting something like $4K per semester, if he keeps certain GPA.

So think the A10 is probably much above that and more in the model you mentioned, but lower leagues not so much. Of course supposedly Geriot is coming in with a whole new model at Iona, based on media reports and his rich dad (kidding :)). But yes, I imagine at our level if they give you a weak a$$ offer, it means hit the portal buddy.

loosk like pretty good wingspan for 6'2. 3 years would be great. it's strange. he was put into last game of reg season frosh year for 0+ minutes. otherwise he met med redshirt requirements. it's like Tulane screwed him on purpose or coaching malpractice idk. now maybe it had nothing to do with medical...but that gap of time between games indicates injury was a strong possibility, even tho he was a deep bench player. but with the way NCAA eligibility is today this could be 1 of their easier decisions.
wow, that's crazy if accurate.

Mier Panoam - 2025 Transfer Visit

a 6'2" guy who averages almost 6 rpg tells me he's a heck of an athlete and has a motor.
wasn't on Summit League all-defensive team, but was honorable mention all-league.
averaging a steal a game and half a block, I'm betting he's a defense first guy.
looks like he has at least 2 if not 3 years remaining, which we know Mooney likes.

I’m guessing we posters will never know the $ distribution to UR players? That would be interesting to see.
so take this for what it's worth ... 3rd or 4th party hearsay from a guy who knows a guy with a kid at an NIL paying school. no idea if Richmond operates the same way, but:

each kid's NIL is deterimined by the coaches who basically have a budget. "what'll it take to keep this guy" (assuming we want to). it's not negotiated. take it or leave it. and it's already been discussed in a post season closing "interview" type setting before the portal opens. it's not "everyone gets $x". there's a hierarchy. the kids all talk. they know what everyone is getting. and giving a kid a weak or no NIL is like pre-NIL days telling a kid we don't see you getting on the floor next year.

Based on Fan1's feedback on 4 positions, I would think he had that conversation with a couple guys. But not sure who they will be. Would think Beagle would want to get out as he just seemed like a fish out of water in our system. Who do we think the other guy is? AP showed some flashes. Mooney claimed Tanner was ahead of Dji at the same point.

what if it's 1 of the 2 who redshirted...they actually have most leverage with rev share right now even tho they've done nothing. because it would look really bad & we don't have much returning. if they were smart they would be like um Moon man I'm thinking about entering the portal. cha-ching.

Roster 25-26

I see we r still trying to make 1 of those 3 centers a forward
same story we were told last year. feels like what you say to keep a guy from transferring.

I actually do think Beagle is an old school PF in a different system ... moreso than Soulis.
in Mooney's offense I'd play Beagle inside with Walz up top. I (and others) was calling for that all year. but by now I've given up on Mooney doing it. wonder if Beagle has too.

Without knowing what other A 10 teams have coming in next year, I think Walz could at least be a 3rd team all conference. Just get him involved and keep him in the game for at least 25-30 minutes per game. I know many on this board aren't really all in on Tanner but I saw some fight and grit with him as the season progressed. Tyne could be a starter or a good back-up since he does have experience.

Just from the transfer interest I have seen on here in the last few days, it does seem like Mooney is going after some hard nosed players. Maybe not the greatest shooters, but how did that work out last season with all of the great shooters that he brought in.

Change it up. Quit recruiting the same type of players that haven't been getting it done previously.

Maybe the Moon man has had an "a-ha" moment.

Time will tell

Honestly, he should tell a few of the players that they are free to transfer.

Absolutely right. Moon has a bottom tier roster, and unless we get a couple more defections does not really have the ability to get players. And he has gone to 3 NCAA's in 20 years, but you are in the "he is a nice guy and wears suits, and NO convictions so he is doing a good job at our leafy campus" crowd. Hopefully Rodney does not see your avatar and decide on UMBC.

I would keep Walz, Tanner and Tyne, but that is just me.

and there isn’t anything positive to read.

On paper this looks like a very lower tier A10 roster again. Of the redshirts and incoming freshmen, we really only have hs video on them and hs stats to project. Hopefully they step up cause they are needed now with current holes to fill. Remains to be seen what quality Moon picks up in portal. Can we flip next year to be a good year compared to this past season, or are we destined to a similar year?

March Madness: Spiders v. UCLA

Mr Spider - I appreciate your fervor but can't really agree. It can be fun to speculate, but... We had a NET of 33, and if that was the only factor we would have been a 9 seed. We could have been in the exact same building wearing red instead of white. We had two quad 4 losses which worked against us. I'm not convinced we would have gotten any better than a seven seed if we had won the A-10 tournament.

Was it the best draw we could have gotten? No, but I don't see any way we were "screwed" by the Committee. We got a higher seed than GT even though their NET was slightly better. In a tournament like this you are going to end up with an unfavorable matchup somewhere along the line. I think we gave UCLA a hell of a fight and am going to focus on what we accomplished this year instead of what might have been.
