Will we make the NIT?

aren't these sort of things generally for youngish teams that are expecting to be better next year to give them more experience for the coming season?
I don't want the NIT, let's just get our 1 loss in the A10 tourney and slink into the night, hopefully with a new starting 5 and coaching staff next year.
I think they dropped the requirement for regular season conference champions for this year.
The question is would we even want to go. Your gonna have to go quarantine in some hotel in Texas to play some meaningless games in front of no fans in a season where we had circled the NCAA as our destination.

Yeah, I'm fine with whatever the guys want. If they're done, I'm not going to complain one bit. Consolation prizes are tough enough when you have high expectations, but with half the team all beat to hell, it may not be worth it.
Could be an opportunity to get the young guys some more experience though. We all want these seniors to go out on the highest note possible, but if Grant and Blake are just too beat up to go, let's play some more games with Grace as the starting big man and Wilson and Bailey logging lots of time.

Read earlier today that number of teams participating in the NIT has been whittled down to 16, rather than the usual 32. Spiders will need to make some noise in the A-10 tournament in order to make the NIT.
The fact that this is a thread given all the expectations that this team had should be a fireable offense for Mooney.
Let me say I have zero interest in NIT this year. This thread makes me gag. Although overall, in some other year, I'm not against NIT, it has some value. Big part of that is going to MSG imo, which is gone.
And we're now closer to NIT bubble than the NCAA bubble! We are now far from a lock for NIT anyway.
The ONLY reason I have my eye on the NIT is if we did get invited and accept that's likely an early indicator Mooney is definitely coming back. So that's why something to potentially look at.
I think we're nearly a lock for the NIT. We have 3 Quad 1 wins and the win over Loyola is very impressive at this point. The bad losses don't matter as much. It's not just going to be "first 16 out" of the NCAA, although I think we'd still make that list.
The only player in this group who has participated in the post-season is Nick (2017 NIT). Grant was on the team but was out after his health scare. If they want to play, I'll be rooting all the way.

Care to revisit Chop? I don't think we get invite. Objectively we shouldn't even be in the next 16 for NIT. Not that anyone wants to play anyway.
No - I think we needed to win 2 games to make NIT. Only way we make it is if p5 schools turn down the NIT this year. Like you could potentially have Duke and Michigan St. looking at NIT bids. But I could see them turning it down.
wait....wait...I get it now. This game Mooney was talking about scheduling next week after the A10 tourney was to impress the NIT committee.

Really, is anyone seriously interested in seeing Richmond play another game this season? After all the preseason hype, this has been the most embarrassing year ever, and not just for the games. That whole covid thing....

The end of January was the most embarrassed I've been of my alma mater's athletics program since at least the Rocco fiasco, and it may be worse in the grand scheme of things. However, it's the adults that weren't acting like it.

One possibility is....they all come back.....but with a new head coach. Will never happen but it would be Interesting,
they just played in a post season tournament. It is very sad for them but frankly after the StL game I don’t think they cared.
I don't think they want to play anymore honestly. I think they just want this year to be over. Whether that is COVID, bad team chemistry, player injuries, the coaches losing the team, I think it is a bit of combo of all of that and the guys just want to enjoy the rest of their senior years.

Agree with this 97. Body language the last month was terrible. THey were not having fun out there, it was almost like they were reading this board before the games.
New president notification at end of the game, WTF. If we had any sense of urgency and wanting to be relevant again, Mooney is let go (let him resign), and we are the the most talked about job for a good week and back in the spotlight actually. Won't happen.
Yep, just add reason to the long list. It really shouldn't take forward thinking but apparently that's a hard concept at U of R.
