Transfer season

if we cannot locate a grad transfer that will improve us, save the schollie for next year and give our present players more PT to improve their game.

We should be able to get a grad transfer of some ability, and it's only a one-year thing, so we'd still have it to give next year to someone anyway. I'll consider it a major failure if we are unable to land someone with that spot for one year. No offense to Joe Kirby, but defaulting him a third year of a scholarship would be a significant black eye to our recruiting efforts, IMO.

So now that Hans is going to eat corn in Iowa, trying to see what other options might be out there.

Mikyle McIntosh : Illinois state is eligible for but not expected to be drafted. 6'7", 234. Posted 12ppg/5rpg and shot 35% from three

There are a bunch of guys who have some size but they mostly have thin stats.

I wonder if mark Donnal from Michigan is an option? He's a center and I keep thinking we need more of a forward but we need depth at 5 too.

His numbers overall are pretty mediocre, he was often playing behind other centers, but when he got a chance to start he averaged about 9/5.

McIntosh has offers from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Oregon State, and is going to visit Oklahoma. Anybody really think we'd have a chance?

No but at least he's still available which is better than most of the grad transfer list.

Rashed Anthony from seton hall? Not many minutes but playing behind a deep front court apparently.

Considering we were in a one bid CAA league during the tenures versus the multi-bid much higher profile A-10 league now, that is not really a fair comparison. Also, there were no grad transfers back than. We did seem to have a lot of great transfer from BCS programs under them though (Kass Weaver, Kinte Smith, Tony Dobbins, Greg Stevenson) are a few that pop off my head.

A better comparison is how Mooney is doing in recruitment versus our current league members. I know some of our current league members (LaSalle comes to mind) are very active in the transfer market to build their programs whereas we prefer generally to build more from high school recruiting, so even that might not be the best comparison.

Nice of you to change the subject, so I will answer it for you.... 1. I think we beat out someone big for Chad Varga who never played a minute for us.

You bring up Lasalle, their "transfer downs" are guys who we couldn't touch w/ a 10 foot pole.

Ames IA seems like an odd place for someone from the Ivy league to transfer to, so maybe there are "other rea$on$" he decided to go there.

At the end of the day, there are some things we can't compete against (every game on ESPN, etc.), despite the fact we probably could guarantee him starters minutes for his last year.

Bingo. We're in the mix apparently.

Good to see some activity on this front. Just from a depth standpoint we could really use a body. If it is a player with Kwesi's skill set, than yes I would rather give 10 minutes a game to Paul, Cayo, or AJ to be honest, but if it someone that can contribute positively we need to bring him in. Not sure of our chances against Ford at SLU, he has always been a top recruiter.

IMHO, Rashed is the missing link. Would satisfy 97's P-5 offers (Seton Hall, Boston College, Kansas State and Oklahoma) requirement, so he must be good. Does not appear to be a scorer, but we have plenty of scorers. We need a rim protector and he could be it. Moreover, does not appear to be injury prone!

Ford has been killing it on the the recruiting trail. They have plenty of front court players. If wants burn SLU isn't a good fit.

many if not most guys in Hans big shoes would go to ISU in a heartbeat if he believes he'll play. great program, conference, fan support, and a real graduate program.

Anthony is interesting. that's a better plan B than I expected.

Are you serious? Yeah, I would say he is not a "scorer" considering he scored 7 points TOTAL all of last season. Rim protector, he had 1 block all year. It appears this guy was getting the mop-up end of game minutes for the last half of last year. This guy actually has worse stats that Kwesi did before he came here.

I realize we were all in on Hans, but there has to be something better out there. We need a capable player who can come in when Grant or Solly goes out and can give us meaningful minutes. We all saw what Kwesi did last year and how much of a downgrade he was when he came in, Rashed appears to be the same player, possibly a little worse.

97, agree that the production is not there with this recruit either. BUT, can he come in and give 10 minutes a game playing D and rebounding? Kwesi could not play D at all unfortunately. I saw him have a good stretch or two, but usually he was beat badly one on one, and fouled in block situations. If this guy can play D, block a shot, and grab a few rebounds he could be worth it. At least the mention shows we are still pursuing someone for this slot. I hope he have 5 or 10 candidates.

He had 5 times as many personal fouls than points that last year. Twice as many fouls as rebounds. It would seem that his defensive abilities amounted to fouling a guy.

The productive grad-transfer big market is very competitive. There are not that many good bigs in college basketball to begin with, much less ones available for grad-transfer. There will be Kwesis available every year, but they are not ever going to make a difference for getting an at-large bid. We might be more successful looking in the 6'6 range rather than the 6'8+ range for grad transfers.

Ok, so who do we suggest?

Hans was the potential difference maker. as I said before, there are no grad transfer bigs with stats. any good big is going to the P5's.

if Anthony can give servicable minutes, he's a good get. I have no idea if he's even better than Paul but he can compete. you guys asking for more need to look more at the list of available grads. there's very little there. and our true need is for a big, so we need to get what we can there. Han isn't coming so all I want is a guy to play defense and not get pushed around.

Hey i, I think Ulla just called you a woman...
I am thankful for Ulla's comments. The last one to which you refer may prove efficacious in helping me understand my wet dreams about Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner and Claudia Charriez.
My wife thinks that I may be in the early stages of transition. The in-laws think that they were correct in their assessment of me right from the start. The kids have not yet offered their opinion.
