Transfer season

How did Dick or Beilein do w/ competing offers from p5?
Considering we were in a one bid CAA league during the tenures versus the multi-bid much higher profile A-10 league now, that is not really a fair comparison. Also, there were no grad transfers back than. We did seem to have a lot of great transfer from BCS programs under them though (Kass Weaver, Kinte Smith, Tony Dobbins, Greg Stevenson) are a few that pop off my head.

A better comparison is how Mooney is doing in recruitment versus our current league members. I know some of our current league members (LaSalle comes to mind) are very active in the transfer market to build their programs whereas we prefer generally to build more from high school recruiting, so even that might not be the best comparison.

Hans committed to us three months ago. Mooney told him to pick the number he wanted to wear, and he was all set. But he also told him to drag things out publicly for awhile and to schedule the maximum number of visits allowed, preferably to Nebraska (payback for AWIII), GT (Pastner is just fun to F with) and Iowa State (a team our advanced algorithms have determined we may face in the first round of the NCAAs this year).

Now the process is coming to an end, those other schools will have to scramble to fill in the blanks when Hans commits here, and we'll all have a good laugh.

Or, something like that.

Yeah no way. Never seen a team announce a player's transfer destination
Yeah, although the somewhat unusual thing about this situation is that he can't play for Princeton next year even if he wanted to, so it's not like he's spurning the Tigers in heading elsewhere.

Not exactly encouraging. Let's hope they had four of those ready to go and someone accidentally tweeted out the wrong one.

Still not convinced it was legit. Trivial to fake that. But who knows...maybe they'll tweet it again.

I thought it seemed too legit to be a fake that someone designed. This is a huge blow to us.
Agree. Brase was the piece that could have propelled the Spiders back to the NCAA. REALLY hurts unless there is another option that we don't know about.

impressive facilities. big time conference. butt ugly uniforms and school colors. another team for me to root against now. list is growing long.

Not expecting things to change, but are they saying there's still a chance?

wishful thinking, but maybe Rothstein's "source" was that possibly fake twitter post?

I wouldn't put anything past that buffoon. Here's to hoping...

I will say that Hans allowed a ton of ISU people to follow him on Twitter recently, including the official Cyclones account. His account is private, so he had to allow them all to follow. Maybe he just allows everyone, who knows.

Agreed. Hopefully, this is not true but the writing has been on the wall for weeks now when he was taking his tour around the country that he was not sold on his offer here.

If he is indeed going to Iowa State, what is our plan now?

well, the ESPN grad transfer list doesn't show much interesting in the big guy category. pretty sure there won't be a comparable replacement to Hans.
good grad transfer big men go to the glory schools. those schools have a bunch of late openings to fill, and promise the world. heck, the W&M kid would rather spend his final year handing out towels for a championship contender than play.

You'd think "Hey, we are an Atlantic 10 program that finished third last year and we need a starting 4/5: Are you interested in starting and playing major minutes for a good team?" would be enough to convince SOMEONE to take a flyer.

We will be fine if Grant is at full speed. To lament a player who is clearly injury prone is folly. The likelihood Hans plays an entire season are slim and none.
