Historically, we had a competition tread which was primarily about A10 opponents. It is time we had a second thread which discusses how our ranking should change based in losses of other teams in the top 25 during the week.

On Tues

16 UNC lost to 3 Iowa 93 to 80 probably not going to affect eithers ranking

8 Creighton lost to 5 Kansas 73-72 probably not going to affect eithers ranking

10 Duke lost to 6 IL Duke may drop a couple points

15 VA Tech lost to Penn ST. 75-55 They will probably drop 10 places, which would move us up 1

Anybody know when the first NET rankings are due out? They released the first ones last year in mid-December, but obviously we got a bit later start this year.

We're at 139 in the RPI, which is obviously not great.

Yeah, RPI is definitely an outlier at this point, but I also don't know how each of them handles preseason weighting like KenPom does, and with UK and UNI drastically underperforming so far, it really shows up in the RPI that is simply based on actual results.

Sagarin has us at 37, Massey at 42, and KenPom at 58.

I think all the rankings and especially Net are important, but if we can stay in the top 25, we should be good to go for NCAA Tournament. It is also terrific for basketball team's reputation across the country. Many more people see the top 25 rankings than the computer rankings. This is also why basketball is important to U of R, because it can have a positive impact on admissions and and donations.

I think if we perform in line this the Line for the WV game, we are on tract to move up to 17th, which doesn't account for other games over the next 3 days.

If we win Sunday, we probably move up to 14 or so in the AP, IMO. It would be like the UK game – WVU would have to drop below us, but they're not going to drop THAT far, so we would probably end up ranked right ahead of them, 14 and 15 or something like that.

If we lose, we probably fall to 21 or 22, depending upon the score.

Agree we should definitely be top 15 if we win. Probably 14 or 15 tho there is argument to be even a couple spots higher. Not only bc some will drop w losses but when u r #19 and beat the #11 or 12 or whatever wvu is at u have to jump teams regardless.

Not an easy task Sunday but I think we r up for it especially if we can put together a full game.

I agree, beating 2 top 15 teams counts a lot and shows that we are legitimate!

Y'all are forgetting Lunardi's Law of Buoyancy - mid-majors rise slower and sink faster than their Power conference counterparts.

True & we r screwed with Lunardi anyway. If we lose he probably puts us into the First 4 In/out and if we win we only get a bump to the best 8 seed.

Yup - - - if we lose, I'd be concerned we drop out entirely. We got moved in because we beat Kentucky - - - thats not looking as good right now and many voters are probably just looking for an excuse to drop us out unless and until we do something better than beating Kentucky.

I think it would very much depend on how we lose (not saying we will!)...if we lose by a bucket we may not drop much. Lose by 20, and we'll be out.

SF if you don’t know the answer then I don’t think anyone else will! You’re our resident expert on pretty much all information

Rothstein drops us to #30.

Goodman is super high on us. I know Rothstein gives a lot of positive press on the A-10, but he comes across as a carnival barker to me. Would rather have Goodman high on us vs. Rothstein.

I totally get that. I follow Rothstein on twitter because yeah it's cool this guy talks about the A10 and gives mid majors attention that they deserve but then I see like 50 cringeworthy things in a row from him that gives me the urge to unfollow and block immediately..

It looks like we dropped to 26th. Not a bad place to be this early in the season and only 2 votes out of the top 25. If we can win our next few games we can be right back in the top 25.

Missouri really shot up there – they deserve to be in, but it still surprises me to see a team go from unranked to 16th. But no argument from me.

its tough for sure... if we slip up and lose one game in which we are heavily favored , we will be lost in obsurity for good.... we will not get any bad loss passes like a power conf. team would

Our 11 point win over Vanderbilt handily beat the spread of about 7 points and should move us ahead of #24 Clemson who lost to #28 VA Tech by 6. # 27 St. Louis won big over Indiana State 78-59. If they updated the polling today we probably would move up to #25, with VA Tech and St. Louis right behind us.

Our next game is not going to be easy. Loyola Chicago out rebounded WI and was tied early in 2nd half. Need to keep winning.

#20 Ohio State lost last night to Purdue - could see them dropping out of the top 25 too, but could be a "no bad losses in the big ten" situation

Goodman updates his ranking daily, and we're still at the same #23 he had us at on Monday. He moved Marquette in above us earlier this week thanks to their win over Creighton, and he moved Oklahoma State out yesterday after losing to TCU, so it's been a wash for us.

But that's just one guy...Oklahoma State was already behind us in the overall polls, and he didn't have Ohio State in to begin with.

Being ranked by Goodman is nice, but being ranked in the AP top 25 is huge for the basketball program. Most newspaper include the top 25 and a lot of sports website show scores of the top 25. We have a chance of being in the top 25 for most of the season and our biggest competitors right now are teams ranked #20 to #35. If we win tomorrow we should be ahead of Clemson and OSU back in the top 25 next Monday. It would be great for the A10 if St. Louis is also added.
