The Official Retain Coach Mooney Thread

I see just a pity party now. Clap the hand , say you are great , have a party to put butter on burned feelings i think focus on winning replaced by these other things. But It is nice to see young men be loyal. good young men. But where is the fight back instead of name calling you are bad guys because you say I do a bad job as coach?
I think this missing fight is a problem. When I was small my mother always says be nice you are bigger than other boys, but my father says be the boss you are big it is your job. Basketball now is game of dominating. Always try to dominate in every way is what happens now. Someone in your face? you PUSH them away. this is how it works now but this is battle we lose every game. This is todays game. Will we try to dominate each minute now please?

I do think Fezz is making some of the same points that I have made. Instilling the "fight" in players is a "Day 1" practice mentality that needs to be enforced. If you ever went to a Dick Tarrant practice, you know it is an every day practice mentality. I see it in my local h.s. conference. There are a couple teams that are at or near the top every year. One of them typically has better talent, and the "fight". The other pretty much has the same talent as the rest of the conference, but their coach instills the "fight" from day 1 in every aspect of the game. It is very obvious, you are not going to get easy baskets, and they are going to rebound, and bump every cut and have pressure on the ball all game. Execute on offense, offensive rebound. Watched Michigan in person once this year, JB and Yaklich are totally invested on every single defensive possession. It is a mentality and coaching is so so critical. Yes, recruiting helps. Kevin Smith was a player with the "fight", no matter who the coach is. Gonzo too.

I am not saying we have to get a crazy coach that is an a hole. But, I hope we do get a coach with the fight. Reading about Wes Miller, I loved how he admitted that he was married to coaching the "Carolina way" for a few years (losing years) and realized it was not going to work for him, and he constantly is adapting and picking the brains of other coaches. And recruiting players that have the "fight" and love of the game.

We need to get a coach in here that has this again.

Sad state of affairs.

The fight and the determination are vital. This team has the fight and the character to see it through.
I find myself a little reluctant to respond to this post because I am not sure where you stand or what you are saying based on the ambivalence demonstrated in most of your posts. That said, your posts seem to beg the following questions which I ask you to answer:

If this team has the potential of showing the necessary "fight" and "character," what is holding them back from displaying it on the floor?
Hint: Could it be that the answer lies somewhere other than in the players?

What say you, Gallipoli? What level of responsibility is attributable to leadership?
Hint: Use the failed Dardanelles Campaign as your model.

I feel your pain.

This team shows heart everytime it steps on the court. It doesn't just show fight, it has fight. It fights to overcome great odds.

By the way, Gallipoli is the nickname I have given to my hapless, bungling, worthless dog, whose real name is Winston. He keeps doing the same thing, over and over again, with the same results. The phrase "that dog don't hunt" applies to poor Winston. He doesn't work, listen, or follow.

I for one am excited for this season and beyond. This team has an excellent foundation from which Coach Mooney can build. The Spiders are growing and are getting better with every bounce of the ball. Next year Sherrod will be back, plus we will have additions to the team.

What will you say after the spanking your idol CM recieves after the game this evening?

That show at Glory Days was one of the most impassioned things are team has done this year. I'll give them that. I mean they walked in and ate that free dinner like World F*cking Champions, to quote the great Chase Utley. They might get dunked on and over on the court, but by god, no one was going to deny them that free dinner. Certainly, not some keyboard jockeys with a billboard. And our social media team was there to record that on all in real time and tweet it out for the world to see. I wonder if we can get that on our new intro video. I put that right up there with the Kansas win myself.

Tonight is a huge game. The Spiders have the chance to overcome, to be the best they can be, to be better today than yesterday. Coach Mooney will have this team prepared and ready. This team is motivated to seize the moment. The good guys will defeat the Minutemen, mano a mano.

I honestly did not think CM was really in danger of being fired now I’m not so sure. That was a horrible late season performance plus a bottom 4 finish.......
I’m not sure a late season swoon makes for an easier or more likely termination. 4-4 in the last 8 seems pedestrian but will seem like a boon considering the hot garbage leading up to it.

I can’t believe I’m even saying that. It’s so clear what should be done that it’s remarkable anything else is in play.

Do any of the facts & stats really matter, or does the Q man hold all the power & decision making cards regardless of 14 year mediocrity and more recent recently absolute failure?
