The Official Retain Coach Mooney Thread

It’s so clear what should be done that it’s remarkable anything else is in play.

Amen to that. This feels like a bizarro world where sanity is lost on those in charge. In fairness, maybe Hardt plans to do the deed the second the season ends and has been planning that for months. I'll give him that chance. But it's sort of amazing to me that we have a faction of our fanbase that truly does not care whether we win or lose. It's difficult to comprehend.

I can’t believe I’m even saying that. It’s so clear what should be done that it’s remarkable anything else is in play.
Quick, drink more kool-aid. We must conclude, therefore, that Coach Mooney will be back. We can be excited about the prospect.

In my A-10 bracket, I have UR defeating Fordham, St. Louis and Dayton. We take Davidson to overtime (I have no prediction whether the overtime game will be a loss). If we defeat Davidson we play VCU in the finals. In that scenario, the Spiders win it all. In that case, the Spiders will have a 17-19 record. In any case, the Spiders are worthy of strong post season consideration.

Yes, best post ever.

Then we beat UVA in the first round.

Yes, Richmond will win 5 games in 5 days with no bench and starters playing 40 minutes a game. What's the big deal, that happens all the time right?

This was the 2nd worst season Coach Mooney has had at Richmond. Being realistic, I don't see how he keeps his job. That is unless
1) he has as strong a contract as everyone says,
2) Hardt can only fire one coach a year,
3) the ground swell of support convinces Hardt to keep him,
4) Hardt really believes the team has turned the corner,
5) the University thinks he is owed a long tenure, like Phil Martelli,
6) they have lost their minds,
7) Hardt decides character counts and that character will lead to a better team,
8) he is the winningest coach in UR history,
9) he accomplished more at UR, faster than either Coach Tarrant or Coach Beilien.
10) Hardt does not want to be seen as giving into the billboard incident.

Have I missed any reasons why he would stay?

Coach Mooney's plan for the SLU game was very strong. The young team, in following Coach's plan, ran out of gas at the end. It was a very strong plan, very well thought out, and executed to perfection. It was a great way to end the season. If they believe in the plan and follow the plan, great things are in store for this team, next year.

I don't usually get to Brooklyn but can get to DC.
Does that mean I can attend Mooney's last game? A-10 Tourney March 2022?

It seems to me that Coach Mooney will remain with the team next year. If they were going to release him they would have done so already.

I tend to agree and I think tomorrow is the last day it could happen ..... beyond that forget it.

THAT SAID MY WANTING MOONEY GONE WILL NOT CHANGE AT ALL COME NOVEMBER. IT WILL ONLY STRENGTHEN. IT'S BEYOND THE POINT OF RETURN! HONESTLY IT'S BEEN HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE SITUATION THAT HAS PISSED ME OFF THE MOST.

I have long felt that barring a major violation or ethics/morality failure, it would take back to back losing seasons to prompt UR to fire Chris.

There’s still a chance that happens I suppose. The lack of a clear vote of confidence from Hardt suggests to me that there’s at least some pause going on with his status. That could mean that a termination is in play still, changes are being discussed that might placate fans who are frustrated with the same old same old, or they’re just crafting their messaging about how you they throw their support behind a guy who has lost the confidence of a decent chunk of the fan base.

Lots of possibilities still. The silence to me suggests there are a bunch of discussions going on in the background.
