The Official Retain Coach Mooney Thread

Kick the can down the road on the way to retirement. Fired one loser, but firing two would cause extra work when other than pesky alum and fans no one at UR gives a crap, JH.

You have to admit it will be interesting. He is on record as saying that next season he will have the best roster in Richmond basketball history.

He’s on record saying that the junior class will be the best class in Richmond history, not that the roster will be the best in Richmond history.

He’s given himself enough wiggle room for when he doesn’t make the NCAA tourney with a talented team.

Sorry. Yes he said that so he might get two more years.

Lotsa Truthers on record too. Mods, time to take The Ulla out of time out for the gloatfest!

I said it before, UR will win more games by having him back than if they make a change this year.
Your statement...Geez.
No one can possibly know that...neither man nor beast nor reptile nor rams fan. It's facially absurd to suggest such a thing. Sounds like something a prepubescent teen might say prior to full brain development. Way prior to breast or testicular development. It's prepubertal, occurring prior to gonadal efficacy. Do you suffer a gonadotrope or gonadotrophin deficiency?
Nothing personal. Just sayin.' W.A. Marshall and J. M. Tanner both addressed this issue as to boys.
Sometimes it pays to think before you speak...or write.
See also The Logic of the Absurd by Gregory Schufreider. It's been out for a while. You can probably find it online.

No contest, your best. You can smile now if not already.

Thanks i, I really needed some humor and you brought it, if only momentarily...

I was at least hoping for the announcement of Patrick Beilein as our new associate coach in waiting.

So a really interesting/odd Q&A with Hardt about the whole situation. Credit to JOC who asked the questions many folks want to get answers to.

The most interesting thing to me is that Hardt states the decision was not primarily about money but the belief that next year’s team would be in good position to compete for an A10 championship and tournament bid.

Huh.

If that’s the case, this guy either has totally drunk the kool aid or he doesn’t have much of an eye for what our deficiencies are. Our defense has been absolutely dreadful the last two years with zero trajectory towards improvement. It’s not going to magically get better.

Two things JOC failed to ask or didn’t get an answer to were if Hardt would be extending CM and if any changes would be forthcoming to the next season. Missed opportunity on both I think, although perhaps he asked and Hardt was unwilling to answer.

I have to say, it is seriously discouraging to see the AD parrot a bunch of nonsense from the coach about next year’s prospects. It looks incredibly amateurish when there is no evidence to suggest we will be in contention next year for the league championship or an at large bid.

I genuinely hope I’m wrong but I’m not expecting to be.

I will be rooting for VCU in the tournament. A real program with an athletic department who gives a damn.

I bet there are lot of VCU season ticket holders who used to be UR fans (traded red sweaters for yellow). They saw VCU as a team on the rise and hopped on, and UR couldn't get out of it's own way to gain them back.

I will cheer for VCU before a Mooney led team. EFF Mooney, this guy is the biggest baby I have seen, and he cannot coach.

Fan1, thanks for your efforts to let Hardt know the climate, he is an empty suit, very apparent when he opens his mouth. Even worse than Gill.

I banged the triumvirate drum for a long time, and guess what: I was right.

We saw the first movie of this when he didn't can Hausmann after 2 bad seasons where he took a playoff-calibre team on a 2-year spiral, ending with a losing season last fall. Prospects are just that, prospects. It's like saying the Nats are going to win the World Series with only their minor leaguers. Not gonna happen.

This is truly great news. Now we are assured that the Spiders will compete. Competition, like work, is its own reward. Hard work and determination are what's needed now.

since I can never tell for sure and I think you go both ways, I'm going to assume going forward that everything you post is dripping with sarcasm.

I don't think Hardt could have fired two basketball coaches this year. Of the two, firing Shafer was an easier decision. Hardt still has to deal with Huesman.

Why do we need a "Retain Coach Mooney" thread? Does this now refer to the 2020-21 season since he is already retained for the 2019-20 season? Next question is the one T-Bone raised concerning whether or not CM will be given a contract extension since Hardt and the powers that be have such confidence in his coaching ability? Is there any tie-in to actual results or is it always based on potential possibilities?

maybe. doesn't matter.
Agree on this. Hardt has already indicated that the retention is based predominantly on next year’s chances, not the contract. That suggests it at least partially is monetary.

He can’t go coco loco and add more years to this frickin’ albatross.

This Albatross, which i presume you mean to be Coach Mooney, is only a burden if you shoot it and wear it around your neck. Are you willing to go that extra mile for the Spiders?
I only carry Nerf guns bruv.
