The Official Retain Coach Mooney Thread

Have you ever considered the option of actually "knighting" Chris Mooney as a lifetime achievement award for all the winning, losing, competing and representing us?

$ir Chris Mooney has a bit of a ring to it.

There is no need for next year's plan. Live in the moment. Believe in today. I like the plan for the next game. It guarantees us a win.

Should we listen to a guy who's board name is one of the biggest military fiasco in history?

The chief difference between CM and Dooley is that CM has/had a much better agent who was able to secure a 10 year deal when CM's coaching stock was at its all-time zenith.

Dooley was also a really good guy who recruited good kids and was an excellent ambassador/representative for the University. But it was likely the lack of a long-term contract, and not strictly impatience with his performance that led to his untimely dismissal/resignation.

Right now, I would take Bill Dooley back in a skinny minute versus what we have now.

Yes, but this year's campaign shows Coach Mooney's strengths. This team is peaking at the right time. With a W against Fordham, the Spiders will have won 3 of 4.
Quick refresher on what those strengths are?

IIRC, dooleys contract pretty much ran out and he simply wasn’t renewed. So I’m not sure it was untimely but obviously point to a starkly different scenario than what’s happened with CM.

Well that's one way to look at things. By that reasoning with our "peaking at the right time", come NCAA time we should easily secure an 85 seed.

Coach is coaching up this team. It shows in how well they practice. Coach Mooney really coaches them in practice, which proves how good he is at Coaching. Coach Mooney has outstanding coaching talent.

I have never been a big LAX guy, and I am up and down on following baseball, but Maoney is pushing me in that direction. I was/am a Dodgers fan and was a freshman when Woodson was on the Dodgers when they won the series, I'll never forget Gibson's homer. I am going to start following this year, and great that we hired a stud coach for Lacrosse, great program as well. I feel good about Huesman too, I think he will turn it around big time this fall. Contrary to popular belief on here, I am not all negative. I am willing to give Huesman a few years to see what he can do.

I am done with Mooney, time to move on or Hardt will be persona non grata in Richmond sports.

Coach Mooney will be our coach next season, courtesy of a strong contract. He deserves to be. He is not quiting on this team, and this team will not quit on him. Accept the inevitable, drink the kool-aid.

He will remain til the end of 2021-2022. Lord help us!

So Mooney's team ended up last season at 12-20 with the #95th ranked schedule. This season 10-15 and on course to end up 12-19 and maybe after A10 tourney 13-20 with a schedule presently ranked #251th. If so the factual numbers say regression has occurred and MOONEY MUST GO!

I know, I just enjoy the absurdity of this thread.
I find myself waivering, wavering...quick drink more kool-aid.
Coach Mooney is moving in the right direction. Think about it. We could win 4 of the next 6 games. We play Fordham, GMU, LaSalle and UMass. Those are winnable games, and would make the Spiders 14-15. If we could beat either Davidson or VCU, or have a win or two in the A10 tourney, UR could qualify for the NIT, CBI or CIT.

If we don't get our program on track we may not be eligible for the CAA!!!

I keep reading the A10 is a one bid league. If we're going to play in a one bid league, why don't we at least play in a league we might have a chance of winning. We moved up what 15 years ago because we wanted to have a shot of at-large bids. We've had exactly ONE at large bid during that time. I'm thinking that if we had stayed in the CAA, we probably could have had half a dozen NCAA tournament appearances during that time.

CBI and CIT are the only options this season. Don't be surprised if we lose to Fordham they just won at Rhode Island.....

This is our 18th season in the A10. We've had two at-large bids since joining the A10. Wainwright's team in got one in 2004.
