10 year season ticket holder. Spider Club donor. Alumnus. Passionate, local fan who keeps up with LOTS of fans, and I disagree: ALL fans I speak to support the players strongly.
But virtually none of the 40+ fans I talk to regularly support the ongoing employment of the coach. My personal, anecdotal evidence suggests that consensus is 40-1 in favor of change. Your post is fake news.

The Spiders rank 350th out of 353 Div. 1 teams in offensive rebounding. We are ranked 350, not because of the size of our players, but rather because of the offensive system and placement of players designed by the coach. Are we competing at a high level when we rank 350 out of 353? How many second and third and fourth chances does the team get every time down the floor? Not many. I don't know how you can "compete at a high level" when you only get one chance, one shot on your offensive possession.
I agree. Bought my first season ticket in 78. (attended games at the arena as a kid). Been donating since the football endowment (whenever that was) and I'm finished if Mooney stays. It's no fun any more, don't want the team to lose games but don't see any future with Mooney so a loss helps that cause....lose/lose.
With what the University has spent the goal cannot be to be a middle of the pack A10 school, which is where we are.
And I think the team(players), with work and substantial improvement, can be much better...I just don't see Mooney getting them there.

To be fair, I’m not against the ongoing employment of Mooney. I think he’s a great guy. I am however against the ongoing losing, and mediocre results we have had since 2011. I have a higher standards for our program than where we have been the last 8 years.
If you told me that Mooney would make the NCAA tourney 3 out of the next 5 years, and would be in the last 8 out the other 2 years, then I would be more than happy to keep Mooney. However, the evidence provided for the last 8 years regarding his coaching ability, his recruitment ability, and his game management ability lead me to believe there is only a minuscule chance of that happening. Therefore, it’s time to change the coach.
This Gallipoli guy is great. I don’t have any data on who does and does not support our coach, it’s probably not 120-40 or 1-40. Fan support isn’t the measure that we should care about.

Do you really mean "extended"? I thought that Mooney's contract was already through 2022 so are you saying that an extension will be granted to the current contract extending its termination into 2023?
That doesn't make sense to me. It seems more probable to me that he won't be let go this year, but that his contract will not be extended.
I am going to have to give VCU fans credit, when I used to check out ramnation board a bit, they were in love with Mooney long term at UR years ago. They were the true #HireMooneyMafia predating the #FMM. It sucks, but they were right.

What will be interesting is what happens if they keep Mooney and this team, as I think most hope make it back to the NCAA tourney in 2020-2021. Assume Mooney will still be on 4 year deal at that point, but anytime we make the NCAA - raise and extension are expected. Don't think we go down the 10 year rabbit hole again, but could see 6 years as the standard with a bump in pay - but then again are we having this same conversation in 3-4 years if no ncaa appearances again???
Or what if we grab the auto bid this year and then go out and sign a couple BCS level recruits in the Spring. But then over the summer, Mooney is caught wearing blackface in a picture from 1982 but in the same week he saves 6 puppies and a small child from a burning building on his way home from work. What do we do then???

All kidding aside, I don't see a way Coach stays at the end of the season. Being realistic, they fired Bill Dooley for having a better season.

Man, the moderators over here are tough. My posts are nothing malicious. I was at the game last night and I really thought it would be closer. Golden looked a little slow, Gilyard looked like he was kind of running scared and didn't know where to pass after he would drive it the lane. I think your guy Cayo plays with a lot of confience and is a good player. It will be different when we play out at your place.
No it won't. Your team and program is leaps and bound better than ours right now. Good luck to the Ticket office trying to sell those $50 tickets to Spider fans for that game. How many of us want to sit and watch us getting punked in our building for $50 a head. No thanks.
